    NOVEMBER 20, 2004 - Warrior Challenge

The Warrior Challenge Pankration tournament will be held Saturday November 20, on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

The tournament is open to Military ( active, reserve, IRR), Law Enforcement, Fire Dept./ EMT and their civilian sponsored guests. ( Civilian adult competitors need to be accompanied/ sponsored by someone from the Military, Law Enforcement or Fire Dept. to compete). We will add a teenage (14 to 17 yrs.) division, open to all teens, with or without a sponsor.

All Competitors need a cup and mouthpiece. Grappling/ MMA style gloves will be on hand if you don't have your own. Wrestling shoes and other protective gear is optional. Competitors may wear traditional Martial Arts attire or T-Shirt and shorts. No open pockets or zippers allowed.

Entry fee is $30 if pre-registered or $45 at the door. There will be a $5 spectators fee but all are welcome to watch. You need a U.S. Drivers license, proof of registration and insurance to drive on base and your vehicle may be searched.

Pankration Competition is geared toward those who want to compete in MMA but in a safer format. Rules allow strikes to the body , takedowns and submissions. The tournament is double elimination with a consultation bracket for third place. Each Match is 3 minutes long. This is the 4th tournament by So Cal Pankration and the first MMA style tournament on Camp Pendleton.

Weigh in and last minute registration will be from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and we will shoot for a 10:00 a.m. start time. PLEASE PRE-REGISTER, it will save you time and money. Breakdown of Weight classes will be determined the day of the tournament. We want to fill as many 8 man brackets as possible.

The San Onofre Community Center Gym is located just South of the Basilone Rd. exit of I-5 at the San Diego - Orange County Line. (Very easy to find)

Camp Pendleton is right behind my house. :-) Unfortunately we won't be able to attend. Daughter #2 has a competition that day in Temecula. Bummer on the timing.

Each Match is 3 minutes long. Competitors average 3 fight per tournament. The tournament is double elimination so just about everyone has at least 2 matches.

It took a couple of years to get this going on base, pass the word so we get a good turnout.

For the teen division anyone 14 to 17 may compete.
The Adult division is for Military, Law Enforcement, Fire and civilians "sponsered" by someone who is in the Military, Law Enforcement or Fire Dept.
                BUT
We want to fill 6 to 8 - eight man weight brackets for the adult division. If we can't fill them with the Military ect... non sponsered civilains can get in. They will also get the pre-registration price of $30.
SO if you plan on comming to watch bring your gear just in case.

Some of the proceeds will go to support youth athletic/ Martial Arts program for dependants of Camp Pendleton Marines and Sailors.
