View Full Version : Kurt Angle gets Keylocked by MMA fighter on SmackDown...
realkaps 11-04-2004, 11:20 PM I was flippin thru and seen Kurt talkin some **** too the Tough Enough competition guys, so I stop to check it out, when they're introducing themselves the Kurt tells this one guy, Daniel Puter I think, "Oh, your the UFC guy huh?", then they have a competetition, some other tard wins and gets to wrestle Kurt, Kurt pins him pretty easy, then he asks if any of the other guys want a shot. Puter raises his hand and they start wrestling, he defends the takedown well, but Kurt does end up getting him down, as soon as they hit the mat, Puter gets a keylock on, and starts cranking it, Kurt was in pain so the ref counted out Puter real fast so Kurt didnt tap out. Funny ****....
What channel is that show on?
Mr. Beelzebub 11-05-2004, 10:00 AM Mad keylocks... Getting keylocked is like getting KO with the crane kick, Karate Kid style.

Dude, you don't actually think the WWE had that planned? No way would the WWE, who have millions of dollars invested in Angle, not to mention he's one of their top stars, get his arm cranked, even a little. Especially by some one who probably won't even win the competition.
realkaps 11-05-2004, 02:06 PM Yeah, I think it was a real shoot, they tried to have another guy win, and Kurt cranked that guys neck pretty good. Squeeze is right, you can see how worried the the refs got.......
Lei Tong 11-05-2004, 02:47 PM Actually, it was a Kimura from half guard. And yeah, seemed legit to me.
VulgarTheClown 11-05-2004, 03:10 PM video?

--The Kurt Angle-Daniel Puder deal from last night's Smackdown is really interesting. On MMA message boards, this has turned into the biggest story in a long time, and the funny part is, many MMA board people don't get the big picture at all and hate pro wrestling. I've seen some talk on pro wrestling boards, but while I've gotten tons of phone calls about it, I've gotten almost no e-mails about it, so I don't think many fans watching saw what really happened. Just to answer a few questions on it. It was real. If you don't follow fighting, Puder had Angle locked in the Kimura, or keylock as Tazz called it, although Tazz didn't let on the move was fully executed. Not only was Angle not getting out of the move, but most MMA fighters would have tapped already. Angle couldn't tap for obvious reasons. The ref counted a three even though Puder's shoulders weren't fully down, trying to end the thing, because the reality was Angle would have been in surgery had it gone a few seconds longer or had Puder not given up the hold. My impression is, since this was a taped show, that nobody in enough power in the company actually understood what happened and let it air, and figured most would see it as a pinfall in 40 seconds. And they were 98% correct, between the commentary and the pinfall, that is how most saw it. It was only when it was all over MMA boards last night that "unknown shootfighter really beats Kurt Angle" and was the hottest topic all night, that they took the footage of it off their web site, and replaced it with copy that said, "Angle mauled Nawrocki, before taking volunteers, next pinning Daniel Puder in a slightly tougher, but still relatively easy match." This is when you know a company is doomed. When God hands them an angle that would get people talking like nothing they've been able to create on their own, given them the potential for legit water cooler talk had they played it right, and they are so blind they go in the opposite direction. Tazz called it like, "well, so much for the UFC." Yeah, and so much for The Invasion angle as well.

realkaps 11-07-2004, 04:34 AM This is from www.rajah.com, which is a pretty cool pro wrestling site.......
Kurt Angle was reportedly very upset at the Smackdown! tapings this week because he almost had to tap out to Tough Enough contestant Daniel Puder. Angle’s main complaint was due to the unscripted nature of the event as he argued that the spot (and others similar to it) put WWE workers in bad situations by doing these “shoot” scenarios. It is believed that most people backstage sided with Angle and understood his frustrations.
realkaps 11-07-2004, 05:02 AM BTW, the guy Angle wreslted first, had to go too the hospital with a broken rib...
seldomTap 11-07-2004, 08:26 PM pro wrestling and MMA re not and never will be the same thing...a good MMA guy quite possibly couldn't transfer across to pro wrestling and vice versa...same as a good house painter probably wouldn't be able to paint the sistine chapel

Hmmmm. Ken Shamrock was pretty sucessful as a pro-wrestler. Dan Severn too.
kcfman 11-07-2004, 09:53 PM LOL! Another Kimbo type hype! Work!!!!!!
LukeDothSucketh 11-08-2004, 09:55 AM I really would have liked to see him choke out Angle... imagine the crowd's reaction to him passing out on the mat...
Mr. Beelzebub 11-08-2004, 10:10 AM http://www.insidefighting.com/betweenRoundsDisp.aspx?uid=1056
There's his training background and a small interview... This kid is sure trying to get the most out of his 15 minutes of fame.
Mr. Beelzebub 11-08-2004, 01:50 PM I just saw the whole video and I have to say this looks like another clever way for the WWE to get some free press and re-gain their part of the audience that is more attracted to The UFC... Clever, but I say it is a work.
realkaps 11-08-2004, 02:14 PM I say you guys are paranoid, The guy might not even win the competition, so they're not setting up a story line, Kurt Angle got into an arguement with WWE officials for putting him in a scenerio where he had to almost tap out. Nobody on any Pro-Wrestling forums, or message boards even gave it a second thought, the only people who knew what happened are MMA fans. The casual prowrestling fan probably just thought Kurt pinned him easy.....
Squezze 11-08-2004, 02:50 PM The only people who would call this a work are people who know nothing about pro-wrestling and the internal politics involved.
No way was it a work. The WWE wouldn't jeopardize one of their top stars to a dude, a nobody nonetheless, who may not even win the competition. Makes no sense.
Angle wouldn't be super pissed if it was a work.
