ok so i can see how the #18 is the one that shows. but how is it that it's the ONLY possible answer??

Its not, look at the symbol next to the 18. then look at all the other #'s. all the numbers with that same symbol are all the possible answers

they're all multiples of 9. so does that mean that everytime you add the 2 digits of any 2-diget number & subtract the sum that you're going to always get a multiple of 9?

I've just tried it several times, and I can't see how it works. It's baffling me.

Bzob is right, but I am going to explain it a little easier. All the symbols for reach number are randomly generated. For example, the symbol for 91 is a + the first time you try it and a * the second time. It also uses a simple math forumual that makes sure no matter what number you choose, once you subtract the second number you end up with the only possible symbol that is allowed.

btw, if anyone still can't follow that, here it is broken down to the basic level.

All the symbols for multiples of 9 up to 81 are the same. 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81 will have the same symbol.

Now lets say you pick the number 66 to try this this. 6+6=12 66-12=54 a multiple of 9. 44 4+4=8 44-8=36 a multiple of 9. Now, all the program has to do is show you the symbol that all the multiples of 9 up to 81 have.

Next time you run the program, just look at the symbol thats there for the number 9. Forget the all the math. The symbol that will come up will match the smybol for number 9. Everytime.

So, in closing, no matter what number you originaly choose, you will end up with a multiple of 9 once you are finished. And since they all have the same symbol..............
