So I just recently purchased the Rival Ultra Bag Gloves a few weeks ago. Here's my review of them. First a little about my background - I'm an amateur boxer who trains 4x a week in the gym and 2x a week on my own. I am 20 years old, 5'8" and 130lbs. I've tried and used many different gloves including Title Bag Gloves, Top Contender, Ringside IMF Tech, Ringside International, and Everlast.

The product: I made my purchase for the gloves at Title Boxing. They cost $70. The top of the gloves are made of leather with several Rival logos printed on the gloves. The bottom of the gloves are made from mesh with cloth lining behind it. The mesh is breathable and light, yet sturdy. The inside is made of cloth that is breathable as well and quite soft. The gloves are double stitched everywhere so it looks like they should be very durable. The wrist strap is made of a thick cloth material (like the kind you find on a backpack strap adjuster). It's slides through a plastic piece and you wrap it around the glove. It is not an elastic strap, but the loop ends with a velcro seal. The fit is snug, but not too tight. There is a finger pocket in the gloves that I feel might be slightly cramped for people with big hands. Since I have long fingers, Rival recommended I get the large size (12 oz) as opposed to the medium size (10 oz). I usually wear medium for all other bag gloves. This was good advice as my fingers fit just right. They already have a broken-in feeling so it's easy to make a fist.

Using them: I used the bag gloves on punch mitts and several different bags including a wrecking-ball bag and a standard 50lb heavy bag. With my hands wrapped in Mexican handwraps, I didn't feel any pain in my hands and the gloves took the impact well. The gloves were easy to make a fist with and they didn't get scuffed up after using them 4x for extensive bag drills.

Overall: I think these bag gloves are a quality product and well worth the $70. They're really good looking gloves and feel great. I give them a thumbs up. I'd say that the gloves are on-par with Ringside gloves.

Hope this review helps some of you guys who are considering buying a pair. I want to post some pictures up but I have to find my camera battery first. Once I do this, I will go ahead and post up some pictures. Any questions? Just reply here or send me a message.

I've got the Super Bag Gloves which is one level below these ones. I've had them since November and I train six days a week using them for bag and mitts. They're just about worn out, but I'm happy with them they got a lot of use. I'll be getting the Ultra ones this time and they should be even better.

Great review. I have em and love them as well. Like I said in another thread....I havent tried anything else, but I feel I dont need to with these. I get mine from Rival in Montreal and their customer service is excellent! Props to them and their gear. I hope to get a heavy bag from them some time soon.

Do you guys all feel that the hand pocket is kinda small? That's the one thing that worries me a bit since I have kinda big hands and always wear two pairs of 180" mexican wraps with a sponge over the knuckles.

Maybe it won't be an issue since the op got the 12oz (large) ones and I want 14oz (xlarge) ones.

Yah, the finger pocket is a bit small. For me, I got one size bigger than my regular glove size. Instead of medium, I got large. So if you're wearing all that stuff underneath your gloves, definitely go with x-large. I have pretty average sized hands, just long fingers.

My gym has a rival sponsership deal. I know someone from my gym with a pair of them. Said they are real good gloves. I myself have the mexican style gloves.

I use top ten headgear because I feel it is much better then the rival branded headgear. Their gloves are fantastic though.

Yes I do find the fingers to be a little cramped but once I worked mine in they began to feel fine. In future I would buy a bigger size though.

hey good review! im new to boxing and just bought the rival RB1 ultra bag gloves. im 5'7 160 and have average or a bit smaller then average hands. i bought the large 12oz and im not sure if they fit or how boxing gloves are supposed to fit. my fingers touch the end of the glove, but when i take my hand out of the grip i can move my hand around. i just wanted to know how snug the pocket should be. THANK YOU!

Thanks for the compliment. To answer your question, the glove should be snug, but not too tight where it's cutting off circulation. You should be able to make a fist easily with the glove. It's ok if your fingers are touching the end of the glove as long you don't feel like they're getting cramped up in the finger pocket. Also, I think most people's hands will move in the glove unless the hand is all the way in and fitted into "the grip." If your hand is moving in the glove as you hit the bag, the glove is probably too big. When punching the bag or mitts, your hand should stay in place.

Also, update on the gloves. I've been using them for 6 months now. They're still in great condition. Padding is still firm, not tears in the lining...stitching is still tight. Hook and loop is still in great condition. I've gone MANY rounds on the bag and the mitts with them.

My ONLY complaint with these is that the finger pocket doesn't air out that well, so although it dries overnight, it's gotten a little smelly. I take my gloves out of the bag and sit them in front of a fan for a little while to dry them out, but the finger pocket does not air out as well as other gloves and that has lead to a bit of a smell...not that bad and it would be expected in gloves that are used a lot, but just thought I'd mention it.

I am very curious about these Rival Intelishock gloves, as I like a small compact glove.

Anybody tried them or heard a review?

Is the 12oz recomended for normal hands when working on the heavy bag?
I think i will buy a pair, and also a pair of the High Performance Sparring gloves.
