View Full Version : Oriental People In MMA...
TheBlackRooster 06-01-2009, 03:39 AM How is it that the MAIN origin of MMA is oriental and oriental people arent at the top of the food chain in MMA??
Top Asian fighters usually get waxed by North American fighters, and the best fighter in the world is Russian...
Weird :boxing:
Equilibrium 06-01-2009, 08:09 AM Actually thats not quite true, a lot of traditional martial arts are oriental. But mma is a different thing, and most traditional martial arts need to be adapted to work in a mma fight.
That being said, there are a lot of japanese fighters in mma, it's just that most of them fight in japan.
pin0yd00d 06-01-2009, 09:09 AM Off topic but just an fyi... it offends some Asian's being referred to as "Oriental"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O r i e n t
In the United States, Oriental refers to objects and material goods such as rugs, teapots, and party mix.
I laugh as this reminds me off watching a hot Asian chick telling this guy off that was trying to hit on her... Oriental? wtf moherf**ker you think you can lay me down like a rug? Im not a rug...It's Asian not Oriental :)
TheBlackRooster 06-01-2009, 11:49 AM Well Ill call them Asian...
But you see all these movies where Asian people KICK ASS in anythin martial arts, and you hear of the legends and what not, how come they aint at the top of the food chain?
TheGreatA 06-01-2009, 11:57 AM I believe Lyoto Machida is part Japanese. Yushin Okami is Japanese, Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri are good lightweights, the featherweight, bantamweight and flyweight divisions have mostly Asian talent.
JMM-PAC 06-01-2009, 12:03 PM bj penn's mum is korean!
DeepSleep 06-01-2009, 12:30 PM Not to be offensive but most Asians are smaller in stature than the North Americans or Russians, this means most of them are in the less popular lower weight divisions.
DeltaSigChi4 06-01-2009, 12:49 PM The #1 Lightweight in the World is Asian. The #1 Light Heavyweight in the World is half-Asian. Maybe you should stop watching so many movies.
The #1 in the majority of the weight classes is NOT from North America, so I don't see where you get this North Americans wax Asians and/or others idea. Only Welterweight [which isn't even a REAL weight class (SEE unified rules)] and Bantamweight have North Americans as #1. Maybe you should start watching MMA.

Oriental by definition means East.
So when a European says Oriental, they are reffering to themselves as the center of the world. The opposite of Oriental would be Occidental, meaning West.

BJ Penn isn't full Asian. Unless you mean Aoki, which then you're just completely wrong to consider him #1.
SnoopySmurf 06-01-2009, 02:08 PM Asians = to many Europeans, that meants India and Pakistan.
Oriental = to many europeans and even orientals, those are your Chinese, Koreans, etc

Weird :boxing:
Loyoto Machida is Brazil/Jap descent. LHW champion.
Yushin Okami has basically cleared out the MW division.
Dong Hyun Kim is tearing the WW division a new one. Seeing how he doesn't -only- wrestle and Karo Parisyan was on 3 different types of mean ass painkillers during the fight.
BJ Penn is asian. Haiwaiin islander/Jap descent. Caol Uno is returning to the UFC.
Best FW are not in WEC, they are in DREAM.
So I dont know what your getting at besides.. "Fedor iz teh bestez inds de wurld!!!! FTW!!! LULZ!!! ROXORS!!!"

Actually, MMA originated in Greece about 2700 years ago, not in Asia.

Who do you rank as the best Featherweights?
you know, mma isnt the only goddamned venue for full contact martial arts.
most of us dont really give a damn about fighting for money. we fight for fun.
if you are in "the know", then u know where to go and see our boxers. if not, then nobody cares to tell u.
and way way way before the ufc, we had tournaments with wrestlers, boxers, chinese boxing, karate, judo, etc.
u guys just never hear about it cause A) many of u live in america, B) many of u just know what u see on tv. and C) have no idea how things have evolved.
fighting for us seems to be more about fighting for experience and to get better, whereas others want money and to make a living off of fighting - which may leave your ass broken by the time you are 35 years old or so.
so it really depends. u either know or u dont.
F l i c k e r 06-01-2009, 10:19 PM Who do you rank as the best Featherweights?
Mike Brown, lol. I agree with what WAMMA has for the rankings(most unbiased mma rankings ever). Although, I think Atsushi, Inoue, KID, Tokoro and others would beat just about every WEC fighter.
@J; They dont know about tcm. So they wouldn't know about those kind of boxers. They think its mr. miyagi mumbo jumbo. Or think your trying to be bruce lee if you talk about it. :dunno:
DeltaSigChi4 06-01-2009, 10:27 PM then you're just completely wrong to consider him #1.
No, YOU'RE completely wrong.

Klitschko2011 06-01-2009, 10:52 PM The #1 Lightweight in the World is Asian.
BJ Penn is half white/half asian.
His dad is white and his mother is Korean.
We want Floyd 06-01-2009, 11:06 PM BJ Penn is half white/half asian.
His dad is white and his mother is Korean.
I'm glad someone brought up B.J Penn. It's kind of off-topic. But here's something to think about...
....Tiger Woods is half black/half Asian. But people in general just consider him black. How come when it comes to B.J Penn's ethnicity he 's always referred to as being interracial, perfect example is the post above.
B.J Penn's and Tiger's racial make up are exactly the same, they're both bi-racial!
Penn, if nobody knew what his last name was, he just looks Asian. But people don't refer to him as just an Asian guy. But it's not the same with Woods.
Discuss!
Dubious-Dutch 06-01-2009, 11:10 PM BJ Penn is half white/half asian.

You should support Asians Wlad. The Klitschkos have Mongolian blood in them.

There is a lack of Black golfers so they claim Tiger. Case closed.
We want Floyd 06-01-2009, 11:13 PM And to the thread starter. hmm, Asian fighters always getting their asses kicked. Tell that to Sakuraba, tell that to B.J Penn, tell that to Manny PACquiao, tell that to KID Yamamoto, tell that to Cung Le. I can go on and on.
All those fighters I mentioned above were top rated fighters in their primes. One of 'em is currently at the top of the boxing world, in case you're living under a rock.
You do realize that most of Anderson Silva's losses came by way of Asian fighters.

sadly, bro you are right. we call em lei tai or kuoshu tournaments. and we might have to fight up to 4 or even 5 guys per event sometimes. it is not a one fight goodnight type of deal. another main difference is that we fight on a raised platform that is about 2 feet off of the ground. we have punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and throws. only difference between us and mma is that we dont have groundwork after a throw and we wear headgear. but, that doesnt stop ambulances from having to be around us. this year, the first guy one of my bros fought left the event on a stretcher. hope he is ok. he seemed like a tough guy, so i assume he is alright. and i didnt even mention how many guys needed hospitalization from kicks, punches, throws, and having needed stitches and such.
Well, not Mongolian blood. But, Kostya Tszyu is Russian of Korean descent!
yeah, kostya is one of us!!! he has trained in martial arts too. in fact, his punching training comes diectly from our methods. that is why he had great success. he would have good success anyways, but the extra training he did got him to be that much better.

I think it basically has to do with the politics of racial designation.

Damn, I've heard of Kostya's "secret" power punching training. He definitely has hammers for fists.
