I actually got this topic from an OT thread, where VulgarTheClown said BJJ = Floor dominance - Creed on the other hand, said Wrestling = Floor Dominance. I personally think BJJ, with submissions and positioning is more dominant on the ground than Wrestling. I say this with more depth than looking at what a Wrestler does on the ground vs what a Jiu Jitsu specialist does on the ground.

You got the wrestler, limited to submissions, and trains to NOT BE PUT ON HIS/HER BACK.

Then you got the Jiu-Jitsu artist, where he/she trains EVERY POSITION in order to dominate, regardless if its on his/her back.

I would think with more submission knowledge, and being comfortable controling ANY position would warrent a more dominant skill, which in this case, comparing Wrestling to BJJ, I would have to say BJJ is the more dominant.

Discuss.

I'm confident and sold on an integrated system of "ground game" or "submission" type arts, offering the best of many worlds.

Currently I train in an Integrated Grappling System (from the wrestling/4th range in Jeet Kune Do) that consists of sensitivity in flowing with positioning, escapes, take-downs, throws, lockups and ground fighting from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Filipino Kun Tao, Filipino Dumog, Russian Sombo and Shoot wrestling (Shooto).

I don't believe that any single art is more dominant than any single other art, but rather multiple arts can overcome a single art, but that's just my feeling on it, i'm sure some others may disagree.

Wrestlers are very hard to keep on thier back however. PURE wrestlers will get killed in a situation against a BJJ guy because they don't understand submissions. However, with a tiny bit of cross training, wrestlers end up owning the BJJ guys. When it comes to pure styles BJJ is better than wrestling. However, when you cross train people with a wrestling base normaly end up being the more dominate fighter on the ground.

Wrestling is the grappling art based around controlling your opponets body.
BJJ is the the grappling art based around controlling one part of your opponets body.

This doesn't belong in this forum Mr. Salsa. You have to remember that BJJ is a "more polished and more focused on real situations" form of jiu jitsu. Helio has mentioned that he studied wrestling and Judo and incorporated many of those techniques to BJJ, so I would have to say that BJJ is a more completely ground style than wrestling. But a pure wrestler can quickly use his wrestling ability to pin an opponent down and apply in different ways like Severn or Frye demonstrate it back in the days.

Depends on the wrestler and the BJJ stylist. It's not the style, it's the fighter.

BJJ uses wrestling. Wrestling is one of the oldest sports in the world, and most other martial arts incorporate wrestling for take downs. When it comes to Ground control, wrestling is the best.....

Blue is right, but we are talking about styles.

Personally I would go with BJJ.

Wrestlers in my opinion relly too much on strength and lack in thier submission skills.

BJJ relys more on techniqe and has great submissions.

Technique over strength.

Trying to keep a good wrestler on his back is like trying to stand on a 180 pound fish.

Hypothetically, if Kevin Randleman was a BJJ expert and he fought Kevin Randleman who was a expert in Wrestling, I would bet that Kevin Randleman, the BJJ expert, would win the fight under mma rules whether it would be in the ufc or pride.

So I agree with Dogg.
