i'm actually in the process of getting a seperate aggressive tank. you can't keep aggresive feesh with the ones i have now and plus they'll eat the corals.

i plan on getting a 90 gallon "fuge" tank that will hold plantlife as well as a lionfish (what you have up there), an eel, a puffer, and the most badass of all agressive life.......a pea**** mantis shrimp.

quite an interesting story behind this one. drunk, dumb tanner thought he could open a can without a can opener. i warned him that he would end up slicing his finger open.
after about 15 minutes of agonizing attempts he managed to mutilate the can......aaaaaaand slice his thumb open. so for being dumb, drunk tanner we decided to give him black duct tape for a bandage.

Purity- my fish tank is doing alright. ALl the test come out perfect. BUUUUT. I don't understand this. I bought a hippo tang and within 1 day it died. But the other fish are prefectly fine. Which i do not understand at all.

ALSO, could you tell me exactly how to do a water change. Just take some water out and in a seperate bucket mix the salt with some other water and dump it in?

tom- if all the other feesh are fine then you probably just got a bunk tang who was too weak to adjust. i wouldn't worry about it.
water change: don't mix your own saltwater. just buy the **** at the fish store. you wanna do a mixture of 75% salt and 25% fresh. what i do is syphon about 5 gallons out every week into a bucket, dump the bucket, and then add the new ****. BUT i pour the new water into smaller 1-gallon containers before pouring into the tank. reason being is that a 1-gallon pour is gonna have less of a "glug" effect and won't disturb the tank as much.

not only is it easier but it's not that expensive. i pay like $3 for 5 gallons of salt and $2.50 for 5 gallons of fresh. besides, why risk ****in your whole tank up? all you gotta do is screw one little thing up and everything's shot. not to mention, there's enough maintanence you gotta do already.

yeah. i can't remember how big your tank is. mine's 60 gallons so i take out about 6-7 gallons and then add 10 (the difference has evaporated over the week). what yer gonna have to do is buy jugs to hold the water. i have three 5-gallon jugs that i fill as follows:

one completely full of salt
one completely full of fresh
one half full of salt

then i add what i said above. i won't add all the fresh cause i like to put in a lil throughout the week. reason being, during evaporation the salt will stay behind so yer water will be saltier the more it evaporates.

It's a small 10 gallon tank. I am prolly gonna change 2 gals of it.

And again, why can't i use water from the tap? And also, why can't i just mix the saltwater myself?

you CAN mix it yourself but it's not as simple as just pouring table salt into tap. you gotta buy the mixing **** and, unless you got the free time, i think it's just an unnecessary hassle. NEVER use tap. there's too many hard chemicals in tap that will stress yer feesh out.

remember too that the smaller the tank, the more sentsative the feesh will react to chemical changes. that tank's pretty small so, imo, it's a much better investment to purchase pre-made salt & osmosed freshwater. why risk wiping out all the $ you spent on those ****ers?

I have ocean salt or whatever, in a box. Ill call the fish store and see how much they charge.

have you run tests yet? if so, how'r yer levels on everything?

Fish are doing great. But whatis going on is algea is growing bad. Even on the ground i believe. It looks like green/pink **** is growing in the sand, so i scope it up and it eventually grows back in a day or two. Is it because we keep the light on for most of the day? Also, is there anyway to prevent it? Tests come out fine, except the Amonia (sp) is about .25 on the chart thing. But everything else is fine, but this ****, it just keeps growing.

the pink stuff sounds like coraline algae, which is healthy. is it growing on the glass? what kinda inverts do you have? snails? crabs? shrimp? starfish? get a lot cause they love eating algae and they won't really bump up yer nitrates (unlike adding too many feesh). the snails will take care of yer glass. the sand can be maintained by the starfeesh and crabs. the shrimp (get a scarlet cleaner) can pick **** off the rocks for you.

also, DON'T have your lights on longer than 12 hours. depending on the type of lighting & tank size, i'd recommend anywhere between 8-10.

other reasons for too much algae.....
howz yer water flow? you wanna make sure that the vast majority of areas are getting good flow. do you have a mag float? if not then go get one and run that ****er across the glass every other day. and once every other month feel free to rustle up the sand a bit.

I got like 8 snails, like the aestro turbo ones. That's all though. I have a powerhead that moves the water nicely, a 20 gallon powerhead which i only have a 10 gallon tank, so it should be working nice. ALso, what is a mag float, dunno what that is...
