View Full Version : Finally my short sparring video!
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 01:29 AM Hey guys Im happy to present you my short sparring video!
Actually my trainer doesnt call it sparring he calls it studying
Im the one with the blue headgear and gloves and blackshirt
My opponent is my trainer/coach and he is a former boxer so He goes a little easy on me
Here guys please give me some constructive comments and tell me what to do to improve. My stamine is not good yet thats why I dont tend to throw lots of punches. That was a 3 minute round however the one who took the video didnt get to video all of it

andalusian81 05-28-2009, 03:57 AM Why isnt anyone replying? Is my video that bad?
RightCross94 05-28-2009, 04:21 AM well the footage is a little grainy but from what i saw:
Your a southpaw, and you were dropping your left hand as you threw your right jab, your hands/elbows need to be a lot tighter and you need to bring your hands back to your face after you punch
you were moving back flat footed or on your heels, kinda awkwardly, and sorta crossing your feet, this leaves you off balance and if your coach was hitting you hard you would have been knocked off balance
but there were some good points, you covered up alright when he attacked, always remember to look at your opponent through your gloves when covering
and you threw different punches, not just straights the whole time
so yeah a few things to work on but not a bad effort, keep training man, how long you been at it?
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 04:38 AM Wow man!
You really pinpointed all of my weakness! WTF thats spot on from what is in my mind man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot dude! Thats the kind of comment that ive been waiting for!
Ive already been training for 1 month however I only train 2 times a week cause my studies is my first priority...
Once again thanks a lot bro.
And 1 more question. what do you mean by making my hands and elbow tighter?
RightCross94 05-28-2009, 07:43 AM Wow man!

no problem, and what i mean by making your hands/elbows tighter is bringing them in closer to your body when they arent punching, you should feel your elbows lightly touching your ribs and your hands up at your cheekbones
you arent too bad for a guy only at it for one month, keep it up:fing02:
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 07:49 AM Oh I see. What about my second video? any comments?
RightCross94 05-28-2009, 07:53 AM i watched the second vid and yeah its pretty much all the same points i made about the first one man
also try and put a bit more snap into your shots, throw them with full speed and proper technique everytime
Spartacus Sully 05-28-2009, 08:23 AM tend to look down some times? use your right shoulder more to block other persons lefts south paw vs south paw. if you keep your left hand tighter to your jaw bone its allready where it needs to be for jabs plus its there to block and parry rights. elbows in tighter you can block the body with out lowering your guard. when your going to look down think to your self and make an effort to come out of the flurrys before he lets off. you know how to slip right? just bow from your waist no leg movement if the punch is from the right bow to the right if its from the left bow to the left just bow into the punch and it should slip right by your head you can side step now or just step into them if you want to get on the inside.
cool vid, pratice on head movement bro, and when he comes in throw a cross and uppers. Wish i could post my vid but my digicam is broken.. lulz
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 10:37 AM Thanks for the feedback guys. My main disadvantage against him is the stamina. There are a lot of times when I know I can catch him and do some damage but I just cant punch anymore.
@Kostya
Yeah ill try to put more snap on my punches but mainly the reason why my punches lost it snap was because of fatigue
@Ylem
Youre right thats my problem I tend to look down when met by a flurry of punches.
I also have a problem with slipping because his hands are too fast and sometimes his right is not a jab but rather a hook like right
@vein
Yeah ill try to meet him with punches but he is just too fast for me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPvlfp5ocao&feature=channel_pageJust like someone said, the video is grainy and tough to get a good look at you. Also, it's also tough to get a good gauge when you're watching someone with much more experienced against someone who is quite inexperienced.
I boxed for 5 years straight and competed at the same time, but would look like a fool boxing an experienced pro. What usually happens when there's a huge difference in skill is that the less-skilled opponent ends up being gun shy, they end up not showing what they really have because they're overwhelmed, even if the pro is just taking it easy, they show too much respect right off the bat.
I suggest sparring someone on your level or slightly better so we can better gauge your skill level.
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 10:09 PM @We want floyd
Yes my coach told me that I shouldnt get discouraged cause its really hard to keep up with him but he told me that when I spar with one of his students I will find it easier than sparring with him

Once in awhile is fine, but more often you should spar someone on your level or slightly above you. And to reward yourself from time to time, pick on someone below your level, just to show off(hehe)
By the way, you spar at Elorde, is that the one in Paranaque(is it the only location). My cousin and I would train at Elorde back in the late 90's, I heard they fixed it up since then and it's much nicer. I wanted to check it out when I was there on vacation a few months ago, but, just didn't have the time.
andalusian81 05-28-2009, 10:55 PM Oh youre also a filipino? Yes I train at elorde but this one is the katipunan branch.
Elorde has lots of branches now.
KILLA RIGHT 05-29-2009, 05:39 AM Turn ur hips when u go to the body it seems like ur just touching him to his body with that right hook it might be fatigue though
andalusian81 05-29-2009, 09:04 AM @killa right
Yeah I was just too tired at that point plus I made a mistake because I was too far from him so I had to reach out. thanks for pointing that out.
supRa 05-29-2009, 11:11 PM step ur camera skillz up first..
robjr 05-30-2009, 12:10 AM wow thats true 1080p HD quality....
andalusian81 05-30-2009, 12:21 AM @supra and robjr
Sorry but I dont have a videocam and the session was just caught on a camera on my cellphone. If you wont comment on something that will help me then please refrain from giving such comments.
Not bad man, you have to work on the handspeed though. Like someone else said, snap those punches out. Use handweights and shadowbox with them to improve the handspeed.
andalusian81 05-30-2009, 05:20 AM @rmz
Ill try adding that to my training. thanks
