View Full Version : Is Geale better than we thought?
Dan... 05-27-2009, 07:13 PM I know that the fight demonstrates that Mundine is past his best but even at this stage of his career I thought he would beat Geale comfortably. So is Daniel better than he has previously been given credit for or has Mundine really just slipped that far?
Infern0 05-27-2009, 07:27 PM Its probably both, Mundine is worse than we thought and Geale is slightly better
Greatwhitehope 05-27-2009, 07:28 PM Geale would've prepared for this fight far more thoroughly than fights in the past, the Dawson fight would've helped as well.
Dem Eyes 05-27-2009, 07:34 PM No.
Mundine is just ****, made him look good.
:tapedshut

Yeah, I definately think that Geale looked in better shape for this fight than he has for most of his recent ones. Although I haven't seen the fight his activity level looked pretty good too.
phillpey 05-27-2009, 07:50 PM Geale is alot better than what i gave him credit for.I would like to c how good hes goes in the future. That fight with mundine would have gave him heaps of experience.
brently1979 05-27-2009, 08:57 PM I think it was a bit of both. Mundines problem is he fights scared and that gives his opposition moments fire off punchers. Mundine knows what is like to be Knocked down. If Crazy Kim knocks you down that has got to do something to your confidence.
In reality if Mundine was as good as he makes out he would have stopped Geale.
JohnTheBaptist 05-27-2009, 09:50 PM Geale in my opinion was outstanding and no one has given Choc a harder fight. This fight could of gone either way. I never would of thought it would've been as close as that. Congrats to both:boxing:

The guys that beat him convincingly might disagree with you.

So what do you think we can expect from Geale in the future Brently? Will he remain one of the top level domestic guys we have or does he have the potential to do better than that in the future and secure some decent fights overseas?
JohnTheBaptist 05-27-2009, 10:13 PM No doubt. This fight was a border line war and in that sense I stand by my post.

Gatti vs Ward. Morales vs Barrera & Bowe vs Holyfield were wars. Sorry if you believe this fight was a WAR you need to watch these Trilogies and educated yourself on what a WAR in the ring looks like.
black.ink 05-28-2009, 07:29 AM Both. Mundine is now worse then i was expecting, while Geale fought the best i've seen him fight.
I think Geale deserves a rematch, because if i'm mistaken, Mundine had a knockdown ruled as a 'slip', and if that had stood as a KD, Geale would have won by SD on the given scorecards.
It was a close fight in my opinion. Geale was good and definitely deserves a rematch.

I think this is one rematch that should happen, like the Solomon fight. But I think it will be one that Anthony will avoid.
Unless he fights a decent International fighter a Rematch with Geale will be his only respectable option.
geale is much better, than i thought he was before the fight, showed great boxing skill and heart, he also had a good plan and stuck to it well .
mundine is just too good of a natural athlete imo thats what got him over the line here
but i think this fight really confirms that mundine is either fading or just not as good and comfortable at 160, i really expected him to beat geale more convincingly and still think he should of. for the record i had mundine winning 8 rounds to 4 but there were some close rounds
the future still looks alright for both imo, hopefully mundine can get a fight with 1 of the champs, and for geale, i'd still love to see him vs pittman for hes comeback fight,or atleast someone decent, i just hope he doesnt go back to fighting stiffs
Kesslerfan#1 05-28-2009, 08:56 PM it was an ok fight and im glad I bought it.
to me it was like a heavy sparring session between a couple of good fighters with one having the edge being Mundine of course.
Geale has got a ways to go but christ the guys got a commenwealth games gold medal and he will go places...I think it would be bad for him to at least gain the notoriety of fighters such as Jeff Lacy and Carl Froch...dont see that its out of the question or unreachable.
IMO Mundine was far better of at SMW he looked far more muscular/toned and he now looks gaunt and has lost his pop in the right.
If Crazy Kim can knock him down with that left imagine what Pavlik or Mirand would do to him???...hes gotta keep that right up and engage on the inside like he did with Geale...for me that was one of the highlights...if he had done that with Kessler often and not beign koed he would have gone better on the scorecards...calzaghe had success on the inside with Kessler and flustered him as well.

I think if Mundine had engaged with Kessler more he would have ended up getting laid out. He knew that I think, which is why he went into damage control mode before the halfway point of the fight.
