The bout that MMA fans have been waiting to see for some time now may be coming to fruition this August.

Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett have verbally agreed to meet at the next Affliction event tentatively scheduled for August 1 according to a recent report by MMA Fanhouse. The event is to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Fedor has been Affliction’s golden boy and he has delivered in two outstanding performances on his part. At the first Affliction event in July of 2008 he dismantled former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in just 36 seconds. This past January at “The Day of Reckoning” pay-per-view he knocked out another former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in the first round.

Josh Barnett has competed on both cards as well defeating Pedro Rizzo and then Gilbert Yvel. The two also fought for Pride and there was talk back then of a Barnett-Fedor bout but it obviously never happened. Some have speculated that the two share a close friendship and have been hesitant to fight each other. Regardless this is the only bout that makes sense for Affliction in what could be its last hurrah.

Also rumored for the unnamed event is a fight featuring Gegard Mousassi who won the Dream middleweight grand prix but has since decided to move up to the light heavyweight division. His opponent is none other than the “Phenom” Vitor Belfort who has currently been fighting at middleweight but has fought at 205lbs in the past.

Belfort has been impressive in his last two bouts as he knocked out Terry Martin in the second round of the inaugural Affliction card and then completely devastated perennial top 10 middleweight Matt Lindland with a left hand just seconds into their bout at “Day of Reckoning” leaving Lindland unconscious for sometime on the canvas.

Tim Sylvia who is taking part in a boxing match with 47 year old former world champion Ray Mercer next month in Alabama is rumored to be on the card as well. His opponent may be either Gilbert Yvel or Paul Buentello.

Why do you think it's too late? Is Barnett out of his prime?

Fedor needs to hurry up and starting making as many fights as possible. He's special and the only mma fighter I follow and since he's the GOAT in what he does he should be fighting monthly. He's wasting time.

This could be a great fight. Barnett is a big heavyweight and very strong, and a good grappler as well which is really Fedor's bread and butter (if he has a particular strength). Barnett's catch wrestling should provide an interesting contrast to Fedor's sambo assuming this goes to the ground, and I'm thinking it will.

I attended the first two Afflictions and I'll attend this one as well.

Expecting it will be a good fight. I don't care if it is one round just like Fedor/AA or Fedor/Sylvia.

And to the poster that is obsessed with undefeatability, Machida [#1 LHW in the World] is also undefeated.

Fedor has 1 loss, he's not undefeated, the bout where he lost on cuts stands. Barnett? omg, how old is he now?

Fedor needs to get his ass moving, times a wasting.
There are a lot of good fighters for him to conquer, if he is to
remain at the top.

You have seen that bout and know the circumstances though right. The fight hadn't even started before it was called to a halt. The fact is it should've been recorded as a no-contest. But due to the nature of the company and the tournament it was apart of they had to have someone advance so they let TK have the win. And years later Fedor gave TK the beating of a lifetime to avenge the loss which makes him one of those fighters who has virtually defeated everyone they have ever faced and has earned the spot of top HW for the last 6 years and all time great status.

did ya know fedor has been beat in sambo? just because some1 is beatable dosen't mean they are bad fighters ot bad to watch. some cats in the mma world think gsp and silva are better than fedor p4p.

fedor is amazing do, but there are other crazy ass fighters out there to watch. also machida is undefeated, and will become the new ufc lhw champion saturday night!

he may one day become the best p4p fighter in the world.

but it should be a no contest, as he lost on cut caused by a headbutt, but due to no contest's not being allowed that is why he lost, so no 1 really treats it as a lost.

he also avenged this defeat with ease!

Did you know that in sambo you lose if you get thrown cleanly? Most people don't because most people don't know much about anything. Most people are TUF®-era deebags that think that spouting some stat like "Fedor has been beaten in sambo" is remotely relevant to a discussion on MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. When was the last time someone was declared the winner in MMA after throwing someone else? The answer is never. It's like mentioning a recorded loss in a hot dog eating contest when eating hot dogs isn't the subject at hand. Don't be a ****ing retard. Or better yet, don't give retards a bad name.

Fedor has never lost in Mixed Martial Arts. The cut derived from an ILLEGAL STRIKE which categorically cannot be considered for the decision being found in favour of the offender of the rule infraction. You have to possess **** inside your skull in the place of brain cells to not comprehend that.

That is all.

actually no he lost by a illegal elbow, also it was a tournament setting so a winner had to be decided so they could go on.If it was a normal match it probably would have been ruled a no contest.

I can't seem to find the Fujiwara/Volk Han Pro Wrestling match. Maybe someone may be lucky in finding it, but catch it! It's awesome. Fujiwara is Barnett's sensei and Volk Han is the guy who brought Fedor into MMA.
