I think they should

I think it all depends on how it's managed. There's clear argument for re-opening some dedicated areas for those who want to stand. It seems like all previous problems with terraces were always a direct consequence of the fan's behaviour, not the terraces themselves.

I'm in favour of a return to at least some form of terracing - the atmosphere is better.

You ****in sick cunt

What is your problem?

But back to the more serious posters on this thread, I think that designated standing areas should definitely be looked at.

Hillsborough was caused by crowd mismanagement rather than the act of standing up.

Hillsborough was caused by crowd mismanagement rather than the act of standing up.

They weren't just standing up, they were pushing forwards in their droves and piling in through the gates, rather than queueing like civilised people would.

I don't want to get into a debate about Hillsborough, I've read through reports many a time, but you're name Sardine, Hillsborough avatar, bringing up a terrace debate, get the **** out of here.

cardiff did have a terraced ground but the old girl is getting replaced for a new stadium.

the terrace generates a far better atmosphere compared to the sterile new stadiums.

terrace made the ninian a far more intimidating place for opposition players. rio ferdinand was nearly in tears when he came down with leeds united only to say after the game he never wants to play there again in his career :)

It was unsafe terracing, combined with numerous other factors, which caused Hillsborough. It works perfectly well in Germany, so I don't see why it can't in England.

Hillsborough was caused by crowd mismanagement rather than the act of standing up.Correct. Plus the police kept football fans fenced off in cages back then due to hooliganism. Without the cages and with proper management, I think terraces would be quite safe. More safe than most nightclubs!

Exactly. It has been very successful in Germany and it means there are both seating and standing areas so you can take your pick really.

I think they should be back but only at non league footy. The real footy fans who want to stand can go see real footy down in the basement leagues and leave the prem and champ and the league's 1 and 2 to the fancy dan footy fans.

The best thing that ever happened to football is the fact that working class people can no longer afford to go see live football at a decent level. The sooner the scum like those Tottenham fans who sung awful stuff about Sol are driven out of the game the better. Leave football to the posh folk and the middle class who can afford to see a game and apreciate the play without resorting to stupid chanting and standing up all the time. If you want to stand up, go to the toilets and have a piss, if you want to watch football you should sit down and be quiet and actuall watch the game.

I prefer the old terraces. Shoulder to shoulder with fellow fans. A mass of seething humanity
