PRIDE CEO/President Nobuyuki Sakakibara anounced on Saturday plans to add two new weight classes to Pride Fighting Championship. The new divisions will include a 83 to 70 kilogram 183-154 lbs class and a 70 kilogram 154 lbs and under class. This is exciting news for welterweight and lightweight fighters who will now get an opportunity to showcase their skills on the Pride FC stage.

Yes, yes. Good move. It will also be an opportunity for Pride to steal all of the UFC's fighters, and make the organization obsolete.

Plus guys like Pulver, Sherk, Penn and the rest of Zuffa's **** list can get fights over there.
There's some great possibilities

I couldn't be happier, but did I read that right? One weight class that is 154-183? That's a pretty big disparity. I mean, I'm glad about all the great fighters I'll get to see matched up, especially the ones that Zuffa **** canned, but that weight gap is pretty wide.

Agreed. Thats like having a match up of Caol Uno vs Matt Hughes or Matt Lindland. I don't see how they find that to be as competetive as the other weight classes.

Well, really, guys like Uno usually fight slightly under 155 anyways (unless whomever is cutting huge amounts of weight), so getting ubder70kg won't be too hard. Who this most hurts are guys who fight at 167(Japan's MW)-170 (US's WW), who're mostly too big to get down to 70kg yet will give up a bit of size to guys who fight at 83kg.
