View Full Version : Did you like the controls to the new Fight Night Round 4?
ACHlLLES 05-15-2009, 08:02 PM I didn't, as I expected when I wanted to throw an uppercut it wouldn't... I don't like em, don't hate me because I didn't like it I really did try to give it a chance. I'm sure some of you love it and thats good and dandy, and I'm not cancelling my pre-order though because the graphics are very pretty I'm just hoping they allow different configuration when the game is released.
Good graphics don't make a good game, needs to have good gameplay to go with it... Ashame, unless they add configuration options to the game when it releases. This game is a disappointment, throwing random punches with the analog stick. **** gameplay.
ИATAS206 05-15-2009, 08:21 PM I don't understand why so many people complain. Not all games have alternative control styles. Fight Night 4 does and once the retail game comes out you'll have several to choose from.
Here's an idea though, why don't you just practice and get good with the controls?
That's what I did waaaaay back on the very first fight night. I didn't even bother looking at the other controls, i simply masted the default controls, since TPC was the way the game was intended to play. It's really not that hard and once you get it down, it's very natural. Right uppercut? No problem. Left hook to the body? simple. etc.
It was a little hard at first for me to get the body shots down, but now that I have it's easy as ****.
Corizz 05-15-2009, 08:28 PM I am pretty sure FN4 is only having 1 control scheme. They dont want anyone having an advantage over someone else. I am pretty sure you will see whats on the demo as far as control lay outs and thats it.

If that is it... I might not buy the game, I'm going to wait until reviews. The control scheme is dumb as far as I'm concerned. I like to throw my shots not random punches like the analogstick control ends up doing. I reserved the game with 5 dollars, but I'm not paying the other 55 bucks if these controls are final.

even in the demo you can see various control schemes (you cant select them though), so no that's not simply not true.

Is a thread discussing why EA wont at least put it in for offline use.
I know there was a thread at OS about only analog punching and no other options.
I only looked for a bit, but i gotta go for a few, so when i get back, i will dig it up. I am still sure there is only Total Control and thats it.
DIB420 05-15-2009, 10:25 PM I've followed FNR4 since its announce date, and from what I hear, theres going to be no button config. EA thinks its meant to be played with TPC, and they're kinda right, however i use buttons cause i'm too hard on my controllers analog sticks, and i break them
Shadow boxer 3 05-15-2009, 10:28 PM if they're makin u use the analog stick then im not buyin that ****. they should giv u a choice
McAlister 05-16-2009, 02:28 PM Yeah that analog **** is boo boo..... and NO im not one thats sayin that cuz they cant fight with it, im real good using it... but id RATHER use buttons
wayyyy better
JmtRyan 05-16-2009, 03:38 PM If you cannot grasp the controls you're a full blown retard.
Chip2006uk 05-16-2009, 04:28 PM Ive been playing the demo a fair bit now, Ive gotten used to the Total punch control, but I still dont like it, buttons **** all over the analog controls. So much more effecient than the TPC.
The TPC is an inferior control system, simple as that, the buttons do the job 10x better and I dont have a clue why they took it out.
I'll still probably get the game but if they put in button controls or at the very least make the TPC more responsive it will suck big time.

Chip2006uk 05-16-2009, 05:56 PM Aye definately, I knew that buttons werent going to be in the game a long time ago, and I basically said to myself that Id just have to learn to use TPC and get used to it.
But after playing the demo I dont think I can used to it, its horribly unresponsive and can be inacurrate at times. If they fix it I'll be happy to use it, but even so Id much much much rather be using buttons to play
Pharoahe 05-16-2009, 06:27 PM I think the new TPC is great. It took some getting used to in the first few fights but I'd say that in three days of having the demo, I'm already throwing the punches I want to about 98% of the time. By the time the game comes out in late June people should pretty much have it down.
I'm pretty sure the reason they can't put the buttons in is because in this game (unlike Round 3), you can start a new punch even before your first punch finishes. With buttons you would essentially be able to throw punches faster than humanly possible. The TPC makes it so that you can throw the punches you want fast, but not unrealistically fast.

When does this alt of account of yours get banned?
robjr 05-16-2009, 09:16 PM I am just baffled on why there cant just be the option to use the buttons.. Did they think it would be a stupid idea to make all consumers happy??
Its just idiotic when I really think of it.

Maybe they thought it was giving people an unfair advantage... one set of controls means everyone is using the same = no complaints about button mashers like in FNR3.

^^^seconded
Clegg 05-17-2009, 09:45 AM I have always used analogue so that's fine. However, I had a problem with blocking and then punching. If you hold down block, then release it quickly and throw a punch ASAP, it doesn't seem to register. Instead you have to wait an extra second before trying to punch.
On FNR3 this was not the case.
Delagz 05-19-2009, 02:27 AM I cant f###yng wait does it matter to me !!!!!!
deeznutsax 05-19-2009, 02:36 AM At first i thought it would be hard to grasp using the analog stick but after a few matches it gets pretty easy...i support having buttons available but i dont think ill be using it this time around...sticking with sticks...
I also thought it would sway me to not get the game but it didnt...but thats my opinion...this game is gonna be sick...:biggthump
