View Full Version : figher of the 90's The Fix 11-15-2004, 10:37 PM who do you got. i think jones, holyfield, and oscar are the front runners but thier are some good options. if you choose other please say who. i meant fighter not "figher" :p borikua 11-15-2004, 10:49 PM Felix "Tito" Trinidad The Fix 11-15-2004, 10:53 PM Felix "Tito" Trinidad i guess i could've put him there but it would of helped had he beat hopkins . although he did beat dlh mr. bojangles 11-15-2004, 10:54 PM Man, it's not right to name just one fighter of the 90's. Lennox is king and has cemented his legacy. Tyson is a monster. Evander beat the monster. Hopkins is relentless. Roy Jones Jr. will be in the IBHOF no matter what. Oscar de la Hoya beat the top fighters in his weight class The Fix 11-15-2004, 10:56 PM Man, it's not right to name just one fighter of the 90's. Lennox is king and has cemented his legacy. Tyson is a monster. Evander beat the monster. Hopkins is relentless. Roy Jones Jr. will be in the IBHOF no matter what. Oscar de la Hoya beat the top fighters in his weight class well there has to be one that stands out. who does to you? i took jones QueenCity 11-15-2004, 11:07 PM For the title of best of the 90's I'd give it to Jones also, like him or not the guy simply could do no wrong inside of the ring. jack_the_rippuh 11-15-2004, 11:23 PM Roy gets the cake, even though I voted for Whitaker.. mr. bojangles 11-15-2004, 11:38 PM well there has to be one that stands out. who does to you? i took jones Lennox for the scalps of Vitali, Tyson, Tua, Rahman, Golota, Botha, Holyfield, McCall, Briggs, Mercer, Bruno, TNT Tucker, Razor Ruddock. Kimmy 11-15-2004, 11:48 PM This is the best fighter of the 90`s so you can`t include any results past the end of 1999. If you soley look at the 1990`s you have to say it is a toss up between Holyfield, lewis, Oscar and Jones. Lewis unified the title and beat Holyfield, Jones only suffered one loss to montel Griffin, avenged and unified the light heavyweight title. Oscar, fought everyone and beat everyone all accept Trinidad. Lewis was knocked cold by McCall and the Holyfield fights didn`t make him look too great. Holyfield, as much as it pains me was 13 - 4 - 1 in the 1990s and regardless of the great wins there were too many loses, he doesn`t do it. Oscar was thought to have been robbed against Trinidad and because of this and the level of competition, the fact he had been fighter nearly all title fights since his 10th fight, and the level of competition, and judging soley from 1990 to the end of 1999, Del La Hoya nicks it. Trinidad looked bad winning against Oscar and he didn`t fight at the same level as Oscar in the 90`s. Oscar is the fighter of the 90`s! phallus 11-15-2004, 11:53 PM in the 90's Jones is the man, he was the most dazzling talent i've ever been lucky enough to see in my lifetime Kimmy 11-15-2004, 11:59 PM Roy is the most talented fighter of the 90`s agreed but he didn`t achieve the most in the 90`s, that was oscar De La Hoya. mr. bojangles 11-16-2004, 12:01 AM OK kimmy so 90~99 it is. Oscar beat every top fighter in each division he fought in and yeah I think he got robbed vs. Trinidad, but the heavies were the main attraction that time. So, Lennox still gets my vote. Kimmy 11-16-2004, 12:10 AM The thread isn`t a popularity contest, its who was the best, in the decade of the 90`s and for my mind it`s De La Hoya, and i can`t imagine anyone else winning it as Jones` level of competition wasn`t up to Oscar`s, lewis` was good but he didn`t have as many super fights, i think two against evander and maybe Ruddock. Evander had superfights but he lost 3 of em` and drew one ( Moorer wasn`t a big fight, he lost it though ). mr. bojangles 11-16-2004, 12:37 AM Well kimmy, i have a different perspective on that era. I remember the name Lennox Lewis was bigger than Oscar de la Hoya. If popularity is not a factor, then how can we call superfights? P4P best of the 90's i agree it's Oscar and/or Roy. FistoftheDallasStar 11-16-2004, 12:45 AM I had a hard time picking between DLH and Jones. But I gave Oscar the slight edge by the fighters they faced. DLH faced tough competition almost every outing. Roy just never had anyone that could compete with him in his weight class. The only person that could have done it was Gerald McClellan. It's not Roy's fault but I had to pick Delahoya for that reason. Deejay 11-16-2004, 01:07 AM For the 90's, no one comes close to Jones. I'd personally like to know how many rounds he lost during that time. I could probably count them on my fingers!! He was barely touched. Oscar had a greater level of opposition available to him. Roy simply had no one in his league...Jones all the way! itsbusdriver 11-16-2004, 02:01 AM Oscar gets my vote.. He acheived so much in that decade... Lets remember, he started at 130 or was it 135? Keleneki 11-16-2004, 03:24 AM Those are some great choices. I am swayed to vote for Sweet Pea though, because he is absolutely the best defensive fighter I have ever seen. The way that Chris Byrd manages to "clown" some opponents is a pale shadow compared to what Pernell was able to do during his career. KJ 11-16-2004, 01:40 PM Roy Jones ruleD the 90s. AJ53 11-16-2004, 02:12 PM i'd say de la hoya just ahead of jones jack_the_rippuh 11-16-2004, 04:25 PM De la voida was scared of Jones.. THRILLAinmanila 11-16-2004, 04:33 PM I'd have to go with Roy Jones Jr. on this one. Simply unstoppable during his prime. ChrististheAnswer 11-16-2004, 04:35 PM I say Evander Holyfield drag0n_ 11-16-2004, 04:36 PM Gotta be RJJ, he was basically unstoppable in the 90's. GasPed 11-16-2004, 04:50 PM RJJ. I don't think he even lost a round in the 90's! Sir_Jose 11-16-2004, 04:50 PM Roy Jones built up his resume on cupcakes. I would probably say Holyfield The Fix 11-16-2004, 06:16 PM ^^^holyfield did have 4 losses. although he had some huge wins and looked pretty good in some of the losses. so far jones has a 12-7 lead of oscar. iam surprised "sweet pea" didnt get that much attention ,he was an all time great defender. so far hopkins is being shut out. who else should i have added? james toney? |
