Purity 08-02-2004, 10:07 AM what purpose these terror alerts actually accomplish? the theme is always the same:
an unknown source (but it's reliable!), reported that an unknown group will do an unknown bad thing, in 1 of several key spots, at an unknown time. so now that you know that, go back to work.
funny cause they never tell you what the source is. cmon now! LIE to me at least.
i'm trying to figure it out. we're not yellow, we're orange.......oooookay. so besides bumping up swiss cheese security measures and making the average idiot afraid, what result does the color codes actually carry out??? we're all sitting around......waiting for something to happen, staying tuned.
Fallout 08-02-2004, 10:19 AM Its just to scare the crap out of people. Imagine if it suddenly went up to red and they started handing out life jackets......people would be ****ting themselves.
Purity 08-02-2004, 10:22 AM they should just sell Terror Certificates. for $250 you buy a certificate that ensures that you're less likely to be a victim of terrorism.
and of course there's a $1,000 upgrade to GOLD certification. all gold members are even less likely than the less likely general members.
Fallout 08-02-2004, 10:28 AM And if you do get killed, its not like you can complain and get a refund.
Purity 08-02-2004, 10:51 AM nunyo would be a member with us.
Kempo Chris 08-02-2004, 01:30 PM Its all to boost up news ratings
Fallout 08-02-2004, 01:39 PM Seriously, I think it would be awesome if they raised it to red and started handing out life jackets on mass. Then lowered it to green after about a week.

**** YOU TONITO!!!!!! :fu:
handjobs4dollars 08-04-2004, 01:10 AM to make people think bush is doing something to slove the probelm of terroism against america. The latest one I saw the guy said "this information wouldn't have been know if it wasn't for president bushs fight against terroism."
nance 08-04-2004, 02:38 AM I believe that it's actaully everyone's fight against terrorism, Bush is our "leader" in this fight because it happened here while he is in office. Whomever becomes President in November will become the next "leader" in the fight against terrorism and so on. It's a fight that will never go away, so we have to stay on top of it. Not just America, but all countries. America is just a bigger target. I think that some of the "alerts" we get are practice drills. For some people, it's actually going to take another attack for them to realize the threat is still out there. Hopefully, that will never happen. But I doubt it. Sadly.
Fallout 08-04-2004, 11:02 AM Terrorism has been going on for years. You can't win a war against it the way its being fought now. In fact, it only adds fuel to the fire. Another excuse for terrorist leaders to confuse the masses and turn them against Americans.
Kempo Chris 08-04-2004, 02:43 PM so what we should be diplomatic with terrorists?
Purity 08-04-2004, 04:38 PM they don't have solutions chris. they're just good at finding creative ways to point out the same problem.
If I had solutions I'd be President. I just know right from wrong when I see it.
Purity 08-04-2004, 04:50 PM you don't see it. you see what the parties at be want you to see and draw conclusions based on a ton of assumptions.
I don't watch the news much so they don't influence me at all.
Purity 08-04-2004, 05:06 PM mmm hmm

Invest money into finding a replacement for oil then freeze all forgien money in American companys that aren't democracies (espically Saudi Arabi). Pull all American forces out of places like Iraq and work towards having an international army along the lines off all NATO countries having one single army, rather than just a collection of alliances. America should stop being a lone wolf and start being a leader.

seldomTap 08-04-2004, 10:05 PM We have the whole terror alert thing here also...not the same extent as the US obviously, but every week there is some warning about not going on any unessential travel to South East Asia, or someone interpreted that Osama Bin Laden mentioned Australia (normally we come under the whole America and its allies banner) in his latest update from the cave...we even had a national mail out of fridge magnets with phone numbers for National terrorism council, police, fire brigade and what not on it, with the catch cry of "Be Alert, not alarmed." (which is a decent ethos IMO, just conveyed badly and has become standard fare for stand up comics nation wide.)
The only thing about this that concerns me relates back to a conversation I had with an ex convict in a bar one night. He had just got out from 4 years for armed robbery (I went to school with the guy.) and had been breaking into cars, houses and businesses for years.
When I asked him how he was getting into places that appeared to fortresses, he just laughed and said "Locks are to keep your mates out. If someone really wants to get in, they will. There is always a way...unless you live underground in a concrete bunker, which even then the door could be blasted open."
All the preparedness, paranoia and fear mongering in the world won't stop these acts happening if there is incompetence in vital areas.

Thats true actually. I remember going over to my buddy Adam's house after school one day and he realized his Mom hadn't come home yet and he didn't have his keys. It was -20 outside so we didn't want to wait for her to come home. We ended up lifting up his backdoor off the hinge and getting in that way. A solid glass door and we just had to lift and slide.
He said to me the next day when he went to bed that night he suddenly realized how easy he could break into his own house and he wasn't even a professional criminal. How scary is that? Knowing that your average person can break into your house, saying nothing about professionals.
Purity 08-04-2004, 11:56 PM when i was 18 i got locked outta my pad so i had to crawl in through the window. about 20 minutes later the cops were dragging me outta my house at gunpoint.
anywayz, "Be alert, not alarmed". that's the ****in **** i'm talking about in this thread. WHAT GOOD does it do to be alert!?!? there are millions of ways to commit terrorism, in billions of locations, at any given time, by any given person! how can you be alert to that!?!?
what, you want me to just tackle some ****in persian dude because he's got a lazy eye?? walks with a limp? he's talkin on a cell phone while looking at the ground? OH NO! i just saw a mexican guy in the park reading a book about military warfare. he must be illegal and planning a hostile terrorist takeover!
there's nothing the common person can do so what's the point in promoting AWARENESS??? it's so obvious that the bottom line goal is FEAR because when the masses are afraid then they cling to you and are easier to control. we look back at the mc carthy/communism era like it was a silly joke. look at us now! we're even more pathetic.
seldomTap 08-05-2004, 01:22 AM Very true...by putting the vast majority in a state of fear/anger, you can manipulate anyone...

so i guess the NEW REPORT is that el kaiduh may STILL BE PLOTTING AGAINST US.
weren't they ALWAYS plotting against us???? did i miss something? did ben ladin take a vacation?
this is even more ****ing stupid. RIGHT after they tell us that we're in severe danger, they tell us that we have a slight CHANCE of being in danger. what a useless report. they just release to us a probability of a fact that's been happening since day one!
in other significant news today, it's been reported from intelligence that mc donalds fast food establishments will make hamburgers. top CIA intelligence commitees have also determined from several key sources a very likely probability of the mass purchase of various "pine-like" trees starting around the beginning of december....

handjobs4dollars 08-06-2004, 01:14 AM Here's what you do. Attack religion that let's terrorism be fueled. It's a hard thing to do without some human rights treaty's being broken butt you can do it.
