View Full Version : So I "adopted" a soldier in Iraq..
Allison 07-30-2004, 10:20 AM I just have his name and address right now, and I wrote him a letter, I'm making a box full of snacks and things to send, but do you all have any ideas for something hopeful or inspirational to say? Any quotes, or anything that you go by?
Purity 07-30-2004, 10:34 AM send him a Bible. that's really cool of you hun.
Leather 07-30-2004, 10:37 AM Send him naked pics... :wank:
Nah, send him this quote:
-"Si ha de hacerse la guerra, hágase con la única mira de obtener la paz" - Marco Tulio Cicerón
- "El que no valora la vida no se la merece" - Leonardo da Vinci
I think some hispanic soldier could translate it...
GeNeRaL 07-30-2004, 10:48 AM A friend of mine has a friend there, right in the middle of the ****e. Every day he gets fired upon. A few weeks ago they had an RPG hit their humvee....bounced off...Dud. talk about luck. We just sent care packages to their entire unit or whatever its called, like 8 guys.
Allison 07-30-2004, 10:51 AM Thats awesome..Thats what I'm doing now.
Allison 07-30-2004, 10:52 AM Also, I think its rude to send the bible. I have no idea what his religion is, and it isn't my place to try to impose the book on him. Especially considering that i don't even read it.
Purity 07-30-2004, 11:01 AM it's imposing a religion. there's more inspirational verses in there than any other book published. plus, the majority of those guys are praying everyday, even if they're not religious.
Allison 07-30-2004, 11:03 AM That doesn't mean they are praying to the same God. Besides, I'm sure they have access to bibles if they want them.
Purity 07-30-2004, 11:06 AM and i'm pretty sure they have access to plenty of snacks out there too. regardless of their religion, nobody out there is gonna take offense to you sending them one. your soldier may not use it but he may too. you asked for inspirational stuff, that's my suggestion.
Mr. Beelzebub 07-30-2004, 11:17 AM I am pretty sure that what The most overthere is Bibles, The Qur'an, and the Torah. I would just keep sending him letters and get to know him, sometimes just having a friend and keeping correspondence with someone in a moment like that helps a lot more.
GeNeRaL 07-30-2004, 11:52 AM Allison, i dunno if you need any ideas on what to send exactly, but theres a good site for it that some of my friends and i used... http://www.operationshoebox.com/
click on Item List :)
DOGGx0 07-30-2004, 11:53 AM Thats really nice of you, little buddy. :)
Leather 07-30-2004, 11:58 AM I am pretty sure that what The most overthere is Bibles, The Qur'an, and the Torah. I would just keep sending him letters and get to know him, sometimes just having a friend and keeping correspondence with someone in a moment like that helps a lot more.
Take note Allison, these Bub's words are so true...
Allison 07-30-2004, 12:11 PM and i'm pretty sure they have access to plenty of snacks out there too. regardless of their religion, nobody out there is gonna take offense to you sending them one. your soldier may not use it but he may too. you asked for inspirational stuff, that's my suggestion.
I doubt it, since he specifically requested beef jerky, pringles, and magazines. Not a bible. How many churches do you think took it upon themselves to send truckloads of bibles? They have clergy there whom they can get a bible from if they'd liek one. They have chruch meetings if they want to go. But they don't have much to eat besides the MREs and the occasional hot meal.
Mr. Beelzebub 07-30-2004, 12:15 PM Word, send the man beef jerky, you can never go wrong with beef jerky. ****, send me some beef jerky too...and naked pics, what?
Allison 07-30-2004, 12:17 PM no.
Mr. Beelzebub 07-30-2004, 12:20 PM Send the man, Maxim and Stuff magazines...
Bluecifer 07-30-2004, 12:39 PM That's cool Allison, send the man his beef jerky and pringles. I gotta agree with you on not sending the Bible unless he asks for one, that's a bad idea IMO.
Kempo Chris 07-30-2004, 01:01 PM Thats a cool thing to do allison, just keep writing him regularly and send little things, the guys in the military are just happy to get a letter and have that connection to the outside world
nance 07-30-2004, 02:49 PM One guy that I talk to in Iraq just lost everything he had with him in a mortar attack. He misses his shower shoes and towel the most. He lost books that he treasured also. His camera, his uniforms, etc. The worst part is they also lost two men. The snacks and such are great as well. I suggest sending him a pic of yourself, so he knows who is sending it, but you know me I don't recommend the naked ones. ;-)
The Mouse 07-30-2004, 03:08 PM I got some buddies over there who tell me that not all of what is sent in the mail gets to them. Only a small percentage of the mail actually ever gets to the individual soldier, so I wouldn’t suggest mailing over too much in one box. I never really did support this whole adopt a soldier thing. Note the word “soldier” in that fraise, that doesn’t mean prissy Hollywood star that needs to be pampered. These guys are supposed to be elite soldiers, they don’t need all of the crap we’re sending over to them because it makes them soft. Yes I ****ing said it, blow off if you’re so righteous to disagree with me. The more we pamper them, the more “goodies” and lovy-dovy stuff we send them, the softer they become; and the softer they become, the more likely they’re going to get killed. If you take a killer and throw hearts all around him and cover him with love, he won’t be able to accomplish his job as well as if we left him alone with the mindset that they train those guys to have, so stop ****ing it up. Allison, send him a bible, lol.
KittyKitty 07-30-2004, 04:40 PM I really don't think that sending some guy some beef jerky is going to make them "soft" as you put it.
That's retarded. So is sending somebody a bible. RETARDATION.
DOGGx0 07-30-2004, 04:48 PM I just condemned all of you to hell. Seriously.
Mr. Beelzebub 07-30-2004, 05:04 PM BEEF JERKY = RATINGS
