View Full Version : [HOLY S**T!] How does he do it?? But Why Wont He??

While many within the boxing world have written off the drawing power of Roy Jones Jr, he has managed to steal headlines in a sport he has yet to even compete in.
A bold, yet cunning move on the legendary boxer's part, because while he is drawing less interest in a sport that's seen its own popularity decline in recent years, he's got the MMA world abuzz about a potential matchup with a world class MMA fighter
And why shouldn't his attempts to land a high-profile MMA fight spark debate and fuel headlines?
So why hasn't Dana White hopped on the opportunity to put his prized champion Anderson Silva in the cage with the multiple-time boxing world champion Jones?
Warrior25 05-12-2009, 06:53 AM it would be awesome
Left2theliver 05-12-2009, 08:27 AM because unless it's under MMA rules Anderson would lose...he's a thai boxer and Mixed MArtial Artist...not a boxer

What qualifications does Roy have that he can face Anderson Silva in his first match in the UFC?
What qualifications does he have, period?
Cuauhtémoc1520 05-12-2009, 01:26 PM I think it's a lose - lose situation for Jones to be honest. Let's look at the truth here for a second.
Roy Jones is a 40 year old, washed up ex-champion. If Anderson Silva beats himeven in a boxing match, he would have proved nothing. Anderson Silva is arguably pound4pound the best MMA fighter in the world.
MMA says it's the best of both worlds when it comes to boxing, Kick boxing, wrestling, ju-jitsu etc. So he wouldn't be at a dissadvantage in the boxing ring then...right?
So I think if Silva wants to get into the ring he should do it against a current boxing champion, not Roy Jones Jr. a guy who is probably 10 years past his prime....

Roy Jones insnt a Washed ex-champion!!
He's the current heavyweight champion of america!! and his fights are sooo much more entertaining than anderson silvas!!??
i say let it happen!! and i think it will happen i hear Vince McMahon has taken an interest
Kakutogi-Gumi 05-13-2009, 10:43 AM Who did he beat to get Anderson Silva?
How is he better then Henderson, Bisping or Maia?

Sadly sometimes its not about who you have beat, it's about who you are and how much money can be made.
Kakutogi-Gumi 05-13-2009, 11:34 AM Not in MMA. Roy hasn't even hooked up with a stable school. What makes him better then an Olympic alternate, a Mundials and Abu Dhabi champion and the first undisputed champ in British MMA?

How the hell would Silva not be at a dissadvantage against Roy Jones? Arent you a boxing fan?? Smarten up, shot or not Roy Jones is a multi weight ex champion whos beaten legends like Hopkins and Toney. Silva is a killer in MMA who by the way has fought in two boxing matches, he won a decision in one match and got knocked out in the other. The reason this guy probably wantsto fight Anderson in a MMA fight now is cuz no commision will sanction a fight between a 53-5 fighter against someone who is 1-1

It's also a lose-lose situation for Silva.
If he loses to Jones, people will say he got beat by a 40-yr old has-been boxer with no MMA experience.
If he beats Jones, people will say he beat up a 40-yr old has-been boxer with no MMA experience.
I agree that a better fight would be Silva vs a current boxing champion. FYI, I'd take Silva in an MMA fight, and I'd take the boxer under boxing rules.

A goodpoint up until you said a better fight would be against a current champion.
In my opinion they are two diffrerent sports. one sport you touch on striking with your arms, the other all you focus on is striking with your arms.
Obviously a boxer will win a boxing fight and a mixed martial artist will win in MMA.
Silva has done nothing in boxing to fight a name like Roy, and Roy has done nothing in MMA to fight Silva. Roy Jones needs to sit his a$$ down somewhere as this is almost as stupid as that Tim Sylvia vs Ray Mercer boxing fight

I actually put in there that a boxer wins under boxing rules and an MMA guy wins under MMA rules. I also feel they are two totally different sports.
I think it was Kimbo Slice who fought Mercer though.

Kimbo beat Mercer in MMA, Sylvia is actually boxing Mercer in a boxing fight
