View Full Version : What was the hardest punch you have ever taken?
Danny Gunz 05-09-2009, 02:26 PM Describe it and how you were after getting hit.
For me it was me sparring this kid from another gym and he realized everytime i threw my straight right i lazily pulled my hand back so he was just dropping some pretty bad left hooks on me and i got knocked down twice... it was bad but i somewhat fixed the problem
Sam D. Menace 05-09-2009, 02:34 PM the hardest i suppose(considering i remember it to this day), was when i leaped with a right hand, turned and hit him square on the chin with a left hook and stupidingly turned my head away from him(i got full of myself because i was giving him a clinic) and from the side of my eye i just saw him leap but did'nt have time to react and he hit me with a 1-2(hard jab-straight right), i felt like collapsing and had no strenght for about a second, and was just suprised that the bastard actually got me pretty much, shook it off and continued on, no biggie
i know the day i get knocked down will come, even sooner if i get ****y like that again
g0tcha 05-09-2009, 02:57 PM in the couple times that i sparred it was the most recent. i just threw a combination and stepped back and i saw the straight left coming so i put my guard up but i guess it hit right on my forehead hair line and the hit didnt seem too bad but after the hit i kinda squinted for a second and told myself alright gotta keep my eyes wide open so i can see and then my eyes wouldnt listen and it felt like i lost control of them and i felt my eyebrows moving up by my eyes wouldnt fully open for like 1-2 seconds and it freaked me out and then i was ok.
i was in my nanas living room and me n my dad was arguing n he chinned me lol never arguing wiv my dad ever again hahaha
RightHooker 05-09-2009, 04:25 PM The two hardest shots I've taken didn't even stun me. Got hit by a straight right hand right on the chin by a guy with heavy hands in my weight class, but he was out of shape and about 20lbs heavier at the time. I leaned right into it and as soon as it hit me I just shouted "wow!" he stopped and asked if I was ok and I laughed, said yes and we want back to sparring.
Ate the same shot from the same guy a couple days later and didn't even pause for a second.
The only time I've been dazed by a punch wasn't even that hard. I was just starting out and one of my coaches threw a flicking/looping right hook. It wasn't that hard, but it caught me clean on the side of the head and I didn't see it coming. Saw a bright flash of light for a second then everything went dark and hazy for a couple seconds. Didn't wobble my legs or anything and I was fine a couple seconds later and just carried on.
One of the things we found out when I didn't have any defense was that I've got a good chin hehe.

My trainer always say its the punch you dont see comeing, the punch out of your line of vision like right hand over the top or looping hooks that are most dangerous cos you dont see them comeing so you body cant prepare its self for the punch
BmoreBrawler 05-09-2009, 05:00 PM I don't remember it :)
I didnt go down but I definitely had a concussion.
7 1 6 05-09-2009, 05:12 PM It was a more then a couple punches haha, I was sparring nick casal (pro boxer) he got me on the ropes and I was trying to slug it out with him ( bad idea shoulda sticked to boxiing him) and he threw a shoe shine combo and just whiped the floor with me. I didnt fall but I felt my legs get a tiny bit weaker and my nose was leaking real bad. after that I know dont lay on the ropes =]
-Hyperion- 05-09-2009, 05:59 PM i got caught on the chin for switching south paw and loading up a left ala darchinyan, except i got caught with a straight right, i didnt go down though.......i just felt like the back of my head was exploding, but i wasnt dazed...also i once tried to slip a right and it ended up hitting me in the back of the head(my bad really), that **** stung like hell......
Marvin6591 05-09-2009, 06:43 PM i was around 5 and the school bully socked me in the shoulder
F l i c k e r 05-09-2009, 07:01 PM Body shot to the liver.... I dont take body shots anymore though.
boxasmash 05-09-2009, 07:11 PM back in high school, i was probably 16, not sure. on the yard was just playing around and this big bastard got all serious and cracked me in the jaw. he was one of the ones you wouldnt like to get hit by, he spent all his time in the gym and not on the pc or doing school work. he was thick as **** but he hard as ****.
funny thing was before that i always thought i could take him and he'd back down from me or shy away from arguments, i knew he was tough but damn! i wouldnt like to have a go with him now either, we get along now and he's going to court soon for breaking someones jaw.
pigdestroyer 05-09-2009, 07:30 PM yesterday! this guy hits like a mule and he bull rushed me in the ropes, and he's ginormous next to me, i'm 6'0, 210 and he's 6'5, 250 lbs and as soon as he bull rushed me and i was in the corner, i couldn't get out. so i just sat for 5 seconds, blocked majority of his shots until i attempted to jump out except he threw a haaaaaaaaaard left hook right at me while i was jumping into it.
fun question.
having a mr chen palm strike me in the liver which instantly folded me in half was not too much fun.
really, the most hurt i have been were not from punches but from grabbing skills that felt like your skin was being branded. it instantly made u switch focus to the pain.
i have to admit i dont mind being hit hard. and i have been hit point blank with sucker punches that didnt bother me.
those punches to the solar plexus can really take the wind out of you though. those have been worse than any head punches in sparring in my experience.
RightCross94 05-09-2009, 11:34 PM i remember a big right uppercut from one of my sparring partners (40 lbs heavier) was very hard, but my legs didnt buckle and i fired back
also ages ago when i was crap i got blasted with a right hand by a much bigger guy (walked right into it, had no skills) and just was slammed back into the turnbuckle, i was buzzed and stunned for about a second or two, but my legs were fine, the coach put an 8 count on me and i was all good, it probably wasnt even needed, that was about 18 months ago though and i was a terrible boxer with no skills and i weighed like 43 kgs, he weighed like 70 kgs at the time
cant remember many other times, i dont really get stunned by shots all that often, i take them very well and i dont think ive ever had my legs go wobbly or leave me, just remember my head going fuzzy a few times
Marlin26 05-10-2009, 03:52 PM two times sparring 2 coaches.
First was when i was a fresh nooby, my first sparring session, i was excited and **** and i was sparring one of the coaches in the gym named Gary. So anyway he pretty much outboxed me. stayed on the outside and kept me at bay. But sometime in the third round he threw a huge left hook that nailed me square behind the ear and it sent my mouthguard flying out of my mouth followed by everyone in the gym going "OOOHHH!!" I could'nt tell if i was hurt but my knee's buckled a bit but i still threw back before the main coach named Mike stopped me to see if i was alright, i said yes and me and Gary finished the next round.
and the second was sparring Mike, just recently this thursday him and i were going at it and we were on the inside when he started through left uppercuts (he's a southpaw) and i took one before dodging and giving him a right hook back, well he came with another and i went to do the same thing when suddenly he hit me with a chopping right which buckled my legs and nearly sent me down as i was in mid swing to. Everything went bright and fuzzy and all i could think to do was move forward and hit him again. But he stopped and asked if i was alright and i simply replied "yea im fine" and we went back to sparring.
tomhead69 05-10-2009, 03:59 PM in sparring left hook to the body hurt like hell
timbatron 05-10-2009, 04:07 PM Body shot to the liver.... I dont take body shots anymore though.
Mine was a body shot also. Took all the air out of me. I thought I was dying lol.
We want Floyd 05-11-2009, 12:46 AM The hardest one I took wasn't a punch actually. It was a back kick. The first one was a back kick to my solar plexus and it stopped me on my tracks and fell backwards seconds later. This was obviously during a Muay Thai sparring session.
The second one, was the same exact kick, this time to my f**kin' jaw, I heard that cracking sound on my neck and seconds later I fell backwards and ended on my back.
By the way, both moments were from different sparring sessions, but against the same guy who ended up being a Middleweight World Champ in Muay Thai for ISKA.
He was a 150-155lber and I was a 135lber.
Domey 05-11-2009, 06:30 PM Closing seconds of the finals in a tournament I was in.
I backed up to the ropes and leaned back about a foot 1/2, the ropes ended up pushing me back forward and as I went forward the guy threw an overhand right that landed as clean as ever.
I do not remember anything about the fight. I don't even remember entering the ring. I am assuming that punch is the one that gave me amnesia, because nothing else landed. About 5 minutes after the fight I was in the locker room with family and my coach(Family). I started to fade into reality. It was as if you were watching a movie that fades from black to a picture. I felt dizzy and had no idea what was going on. I kept asking if I won the fight.
Everyone thought I was joking around untill they finally realized I really had no clue what had just happend.
I watched the fight tape after the fact. You can see how clear the punch was. I wasn't phazed at all by it. I didn't buckle or freeze at all. I ate the punch, the bell run, I went to his corner to shake his hands / corners hands, and went to mine. Pretty funny watching me walk around and fight and all that, and I don't even remember it.
I won the tournament =)
portuge puncher 05-11-2009, 09:03 PM it was in my first ametuer fight, i got hit with a huge left hook to the body, i didnt go down, but it hurt so much i could hardly breath, i was pretty much on queer street.
Journeyman 05-11-2009, 09:26 PM maybe not the hardest punch, but the crazyest punch i ever took was when i first started off and just tried to run in close with some half assed jab. ate a simple one two but that right hand made me spin and look at dude like "wtf, u just did that **** to me?"
Animal Squabbs 05-11-2009, 10:40 PM When i sparred against Tyrone Brunson. Ive sparred 21 different guys, had 2 amateur fights and had plenty of streetfights... Never been punched THAT hard consistantly before or since...
Two Fisted Piston 05-12-2009, 08:30 AM The hardest was afew weeks ago by a SuperHeavyweight National Champion in our club(I'm Welterweight). We both started boxing around the same time about 8 years ago so we grew up sparring eachother so we know eachother really well. Its hard enough to go in and trade punches with a SHW but he's southpaw aswell, not a slugger and very good boxer with amazing power, as I would find out. Anyway I jabbed my way in and threw a quick right, left hook and just as my next right was coming..BOOOOOOOOM..He catches me with a big left!! Didnt see it coming! Well first I just saw stars then black then I felt my whole body just wobble and shiver:skull: I didnt go down but I was pretty sure I as dead. I grabbed onto the ropes and went down on a knee. Ive had over 30 amateur fights and never once have I been hit so ****ing hard and this is with 16oz!! I was grand for the next round though just a bit shaken and weary of him:boxing:
I also experienced this afew nights ago sparring when me and another guy clashed heads, like right at the top of my head I got the woobble and stars!!
peewee1460 05-12-2009, 04:30 PM was sparring and got hit on the back of the head with a clubbing right hand. made my left foot go numb
it was the first time sparing, im a tall southpaw and was fighting a short infighter. Well anyways i threw a very lazy jab followed by a straight left and he threw a big overhand right which came over the top of my left and caught me on the top of the head i fell back into the ropes and was shocked a little, lucky for me my heard gear spun around and the bloke stopped to let me adjust it lol otherwise i would have been in trouble.
When i sparred against Tyrone Brunson. Ive sparred 21 different guys, had 2 amateur fights and had plenty of streetfights... Never been punched THAT hard consistantly before or since...
What was it like sparing him?? i bet he battered you didnt he?? the punches must have been to quick and hard to do anything about aye lol
A boxer named hector Lizarraga was training in our gym and needed sparing partners, I got in and did ok till he decided to chop my body down, he tried hooking me two time and on the third it felt like my body exploded, I wanted to scream and no sound came out, i was out for at least 20 seconds unable to straighten my body
sammiza567 05-15-2009, 03:00 AM the gentleman in portuge puncher's ave was nice enough to send a looping right hand my way that i didnt even see coming...didnt knock me down or even wobble me but i had to shake my head right after like damn lol...
!! Shawn 05-15-2009, 04:57 AM The two hardest shots I've taken didn't even stun me.
Thats kind of the same experience I had. The only time I have been anything remotely close to hurt was when I was first starting out and got clipped with something I didn't see, saw a bright flash of light, but no dimness or anything afterwards. Coach stopped sparring asked if I was okay, I said yes, and we continued.
I decided I needed to improve my defense after that.
J.Dempsey 05-15-2009, 09:17 AM sparring, right uppercut hit me flush on side of jaw, couldn't chew my food that night or in the morning
I was sparring with a guy at my gym and we were really going at it. It was a war in there. I'd back him up, then he'd back me, we would trade in the center. Anyways, he started firing a couple combos where he'd hit me in the body and then hit me upstairs. I backed into the ropes and he caught me with a big left hook. I felt a buzz and everyone went OHHHHH, but after a second or two I was ok.
Another time I fought a kid who was 155 lbs (I'm 125) and every time he hit me I felt my brain rattle in my head. Damn that kid hit hard. He's was a real bully in the ring though, all he'd do is come out and throw wild hayemakers in sparring and beat up the new guys. Eventually some of the more experienced guys had to put him in his place.

So true. Was dropped for the first time ever tonight from an overhand right that I just didn't see coming from a guy with about 20 pounds on me.. Was just a flash KD.. felt completely fine and kept sparring for another 3-4 rounds.. was just like my body telling me it needs warning before getting punched on the chin. Good experience really..
Animal Squabbs 05-18-2009, 06:30 PM What was it like sparing him?? i bet he battered you didnt he?? the punches must have been to quick and hard to do anything about aye lol
i sparred him twice. Ive been hit almost as hard by one punch from some other guys, but damn near every punch from Brunson hurt. I was actually just as fast if not faster cause sometimes i was beating him to the punch. He didnt move well on the outside and I cornered him alot. Defense wasnt too good and he didnt move his head... but he can HIT, he's explosive, he can put punches together and when he was inside he would pivot all around me.
