Dana declined because he doesn't want the UFC to be involved with the type of wacky matchups that Japan is famous for (They're putting Jose Canseco in a fight with 7 foot tall korean kickboxer Hong Man Choi soon).

The Lightweight vs Heavyweight fights that I've seen in Japanese MMA promotions are entertaining, but not really the kind of fight that a professional organization should be putting on. (I'm not saying Jose is a lightweight, I'm saying that they literally pit 5 foot tall lightweights against heavyweights)

I can understand where Dana's coming from. I think it shows that he has the future of the sport in mind.

Roy Jones Jr. would very likely beat Anderson Silva in a boxing match. But under MMA rules it just wouldn't be fair, even if Silva kept the fight on the feet (which I'm sure he would).

That's actually the reason why I think Dana SHOULD have accepted the fight.

Anderson has 8 tools to strike with (10 if you include shoulders, but shoulder strikes only apply on the ground).

Actually you could include foot stomps as strikes too lol, but lets not get into that.

Roy just has his punches. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Roy was unable to get out of Anderson's Plum. He'd eat kneecaps until he eats the floor.

Roy > Silva in Boxing

Silva > Roy in MMA

Simple as that imo.

I think Dana should have allowed the match cause it would have lit a Anderson's ass to actually fight his ass off and produce a good show for the fans.

I agree with all that. I just havent seen any news about it.

Im very surprised that Roy agreed fight under MMA rules. When this fight was talked about a while back, it was going to be a boxing match. I cant stand Jones anyway, so it would be great to get him in the cage.

** Broken Hand Forces Houston Alexander Off UFC 98

better that than a broken face 30 seconds in to the fight. He could be a tough competitor if he had better defense. seems like he just trains to KO someone and that's it.
