View Full Version : If DMX was a little more consistent on his last 2 albums, he would be a legit GOAT...

U Mad? then go suck a dick faggit

Heres why.....

Versatility

2pac is the only rapper that was clearly more versatile then DMX

FLOW: DMX's flow is as great as any other rappers, hes up there with the greats (Slick Rick, Jay-Z, 2pac, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent)

Notice that the rappers with the best flows are the most popular...There was no rapper that was as popular as DMX was from the late 90's until about 2003. He was doing movies, his albums were selling like crazy, and who doesnt know songs like Party up, the ruff ryders anthem, and slippin?

White girls liked DMX

Name a rapper that could switch up their voice as well as DMX does?

But before you do that, listen to all 3 Damien songs. Listen to Stop being greedy...while your at it, listen to all 6 of his albums and his unreleased material.

LYRICS: This is what holds him back, he was at one point a great lyricist. Then he became a very good lyricist when Great Depression came out, since then hes been above average.

His Last 2 albums (Grand Champ, Year of the Dog...Again) are both better then people say they are. However, DMX was capable of more. I give both of them 3.5/5

Its dark and hell is hot 5/5
Flesh of my Flesh 5/5
And then there was X 4./5
Great Depression 4.5/5
Grand Champ 3.5/5
Year of the Dog 3.5/5

His last 2 did not have the consistency that the first 4 had, BUT people fail to realize that he was still making great songs.

So had he been more consistent on his last 2, He would be a respectable choice as the GOAT. Hes one of the realest, one of the most versatile, and he has the most powerful voice hip hop has ever heard.

Some of you will disagree...If your not familiar with every song from everyone of his cd's, suck a ****. If you are familiar with all them and dont think hes as great as i and many of his fans say he is, then i can respect that.

Those who like X are usually more into his raw, **** you foward apprach type of music.. They don't enjoy that ''soft'' REAL side of X.. Those who like those ''soft'' type of tracks doesn't usually put on a DMX album.. They put on a common album or something like that.. Which is sad because I know ''Slippin' '' have gotten so many props, yet people fail to see X as a multi artist and not just an one dimensional ''*Bark *bark, I got blood on my hands'' type of artist.

c/s that to the fullest...and i just wanna clarify one thing, i already consider him an ATG, i think thats pretty much a universal fact throughout hip hop. But i think if he was a little more consistent on his last 2, he would be there with pac, nas, rakim, and krs one.

Theres always X songs i can play at any time no matter how im feeling

depressed, angry, working out, happy, joyful, laid back....X has it all in his catalog.

Yeah, Absolutely.. I really think if he shortened his album Grand Champ it could've been a classic. think about it ''Where the hood at'' ''my life'' ''the rain'' ''x gonna give it to ya'' ''ayo kato'' ''we're back'' ''Get it on the floor'' .. Had he shortened the album to around 12 of the strongest tracks instead of 24 it could definietly have been a classic IMO.

I think the problem with X was that I think he started rehashing too much material. I like that he's very real and his style really hadn't changed that much, but that was the issue. He didn't re-invent himself. Same cycle

Listening to album 6 is the same as listening to album 4. Then some of his wordplay just got repetitive and non-creative.

People like X, wish he'd turn his life around and put better music, but in the end...the creative fire just wasn't there towards the end. I still think he can put quality **** out though

That's exactly what i was going to say. Grand Champ in my opinion, is a great album, the only thing that stops it being a classic, is 5 or 6 tracks i consider filler. I think it's better then Year Of The Dog, which i consider his weakest output.

I may be a little bias as X was one of my favourites growing up, but i consider his first 3 albums classics (4.5-5/5). Great Depression and Grand Champ are both 4/5, with Year Of The Dog being 3.5/5.

That to me is a strong body of work, and he has one of the best resume's in hip hop. He will go down as an ATG, and when he does eventually retire, the better his legacy will become.

Just look at rappers from the past, they seem to be more respected with age, so i have no doubts in my mind that DMX will be ushered in the same breath as Nas and Jay Z with years to come.

hmm...I gotta change Grand Champ from a 3.5/5 to a 4/5...

And also, just to add...I didnt see any mention in my post about all the rock/heavy metal fans that DMX had. From 98 to 2003, there wasnt a rapper bigger then him except maybe Eminem. He was big like Biggie and Pac were.

What led to his fall?

His last real popular song was where tha hood at, unfortunately the only single that i remember off his last album was lord give me a sign. I think part of his problem was and is that he hasnt put enough material out, another problem is that the style has changed. Would a song like whats my name still be popular if it came out now? He hasnt done the best job of adapting his style to fit whats popular. I cant think of a rapper that has fallen any farther out of the mainstream crowd then DMX has. Hopefully he can get back on next year when his new album drops, he blacked the **** out on that whos real remix.

I agree. DMX needs to more new songs out. I still think he has an audience in this game. He just needs to be more active.
