There is a guy at the gym that I often spar with that has exceptionally fast hands. Every time I get in there with him I will land some good shots but will be immediately countered with very fast shots that knock me around the ring. I wouldn't say that they hurt me, but because I don't see them coming, I'm getting caught too many times. How do I neutralize my opponents handspeed while still being effective offensively. I was thinking of pot shotting him and then holding. But this being amateur boxing, you can't really hold too much before you get a point off.

like bbos said stick the jab. hard. you see his jab comming out hopefully then slip catch and pop your jab out there with a vengeance. you gotta make him think twice about leaving himself open to through punches because of what you can do. amateurs can be a tricky thing i think just because its the clean shots that count but if it were me i would use my jab more and try to get on the inside. since he has fast hands i dont think he would enjoy being on the inside much and thats where you can do the damage. short right hook the the body and then a fast right uppercut. that should slow him down some.

They say timing beats speed. You gotta train harder, fast hands arent all genetic poeple that say those things want you to give up hope on it.
Make your speed comparable. Use the elements that make you good.

But for now, best strategy would be. To really be more elusive and solid. Like he counters obviously because your hands arent in defense mode quickly enough after your attack. Move away immideatly after your combination, and not in a straight line.

Dont worry about his speed, draw him to throw then counter him precise. keep moving and jab, the moment he gets in reach.
