View Full Version : Byrd & Ruiz - BAD for Boxing
INFAMOUZ 11-15-2004, 02:20 PM If there was any corruption with Byrd & Ruiz's latest victories....it would mean boxing is corrupt AND stupid.
These two clowns aren't good for boxing (especially Ruiz). I can't stand watching these guys continue to win-ugly.
Someone needs to kick their a$$es once and for all...
....hopefully the Brothers-K.
I dont think that Byrd is bad for boxing, he has a nice style not much ko power but

Even though I had Jameel up in his fight by a point I think, I wrote that some rounds I scored for Jameel were very close. Byrd deserved that win and Jameel dropped the ball by falling into the gameplan which I spoke of in the middle rounds of the play by play. He let Jameel shoot his load and punch himself out, Byrd even had Jameel in trouble in the 11th. Byrd has had some pretty exciting fights as of late, even though the result was not always correct...Oquendo, Tua, Holyfield, Golota and McCline were all entertaining fights to watch.

Byrd is bad for boxing simply because he shows how easy it is to be a champ now a days. It wouldn't be as easy to see how bad the division is had he not been declared champ. He's not a havyweight champ in the sense that a champ is dominant, leaves no question as to who is in charge, and wins impressively. Byrd does nothing of the sort.

None of the champs are doing that these days, even Vitali in his last 3 fights beat an out of shape Sanders, an out of shape Johnson and lost to Lennox Lewis. People can say what they want about Vitali being up on the cards, the cuts were caused by punches and the cuts were well beyond the point of causing a fight to be stopped. Even if Vitali beats Williams, Williams doesnt even deserve to be in the ring, on a pay per view stage, with the guy who is ranked the top heavyweight in the world.

I totally agree, the only person who seems to domanate is Toney, if gicing the chance he will clean up this Div. not VK

Really? Are you sure you aren't talking about Larry Donald?
mic573 11-15-2004, 03:33 PM People can say what they want about John Ruiz but he just keeps winning even if it is ugly. Nobody said you have to be exciting to be a winner. As for his fight against Golota I haven't seen it so I can't call it and I tell you I wouldn't be surprised if he is the undisputed champion one day because of his style. I'm not a fan of John Ruiz or any heavyweight for that matter but I'm just telling it like it is.
ChrististheAnswer 11-15-2004, 04:13 PM I can see Ruiz being bad for boxing becasue his fights are boring. Byrd is good for boxing becasue his fights are exciting and he is a good person.

You would say that.
oldgringo 11-15-2004, 04:41 PM I don't think Byrd is bad for boxing. It's good for the HW division to have a guy who's smaller with a style of fighting that's not just slugging or relying on power. Toney is good too because he brings more skill, personality, and attitude to the HW division.
RussianArm 11-15-2004, 05:56 PM I must say, I was at the Madison Garden for this card, and when Byrd came out everyone BOOed him, and everyone cheered McCline, but after Byrd fought the bigger McCline and almost knocked him down, he gained everyone's respect. As of now, my second favorite fighter behind V. Klitschko is Byrd. He is very exciting and has a very impressive style. Ruiz on the other hand, is bad for boxing because of his rough house tactics.
SalvaDominicano 11-15-2004, 05:56 PM i like byrd. hes the only champ winning thats not huge like big ben said. plus he has a lot of skill he was wearing mccline down but had to get hit in the process to do it and he doesnt care who he fights. thats a champ.
