View Full Version : John Ruiz earned my Respect

I have long been John Ruiz' harshest critic. I remember as a young boy who grew up in a boxing family watching David Tua remove "The Quiet Man" from conciousness in 1996. I remember how John Ruiz grabbed and wrestled his way through the Holyfield Trilogy. I remember how he didn't seem interested in defending his title against Jones. I remember how he "fought" Hasim Rahman and got the decision. But after he came out in round 1 and landed his clean shots against Golata, I had a feeling he might be for real. Then when he got off the canvas 2 times to out punch the much more gifted Andrew Golata, he gained my respect. While I don't think he will ever be the recognized heavyweight champ or one of the greats, he is a tough son of a *****, and he fought like a champ, atleast against Golata. But I do feel Golata deserved the decision.

I was entertained by the Golata fight, thats for damn sure. I was looking forward with eager anticipation to the Golata fight.

Then when he got off the canvas 2 times to out punch the much more gifted Andrew Golata,...um. Golota landed the more heavy blows, and landed 30+ more punches. How exactly did he outpunch Golota?

Golota managed to land more puches even though he spent the vast majority of the fight being hugged by Ruiz. Are you sure you saw the fight?

There were rounds in which Ruiz stunned Golata and outlanded him. I'm not saying all the rounds, but some.

Why? Golata can get some things done, and Ruiz is more greco roman wrestler than sports entertainment. If anything, he should be an olympian.

****ing bull**** if you ask me. One guy outlands the other, knocks the other mother****er down twice and the other mother****er gets a point deducted and he still wins. ****ING ****ING ****ING BULL****!!!!!!! No respect here for that other mother****er. **** HIM AND HIS ****ING JERK-OFF TRAINER.

That **** was funny when Stoney got kicked out of the corner for calling the ref a "f**king jerk off". Classic! Rick Reeno should put that in his little boxing quotes thingy on the front page.

You call that fighting like a champ? Hardly. With all due respect, I must say that I'm glad you're not a fight promoter. Ruiz is a professional disgrace and he should be personally digusted with himself as a fighter and as a person.

My attack on his professional performances need no lengthy explanation- he sucks. He would rather hug and grope (which is illegal as no ref but Jay Nady realizes)than fight. He cheats, whines and pouts in the ring.

I am attacking him personally based on the litany of whining, unprofessionalism, dirty tactics, refusing to give a conquering opponent credit, being in any way associated with that fat createn Stone, and just an overall ora of being a pug.

Of course, this is just my (and just about everyone elses) opinion.

Well, when I start promoting and sign Tua-Tyson, you'll be sorry I guess. The thing is, he was behind in the Golata fight, and defended his title successfully. He's got a manager who is an ******* and piece of ****, but he trusts his manager and does his best to help his fighter. I do believe his last 2 fights were horrible, but the Golata fight was good. BTW, how does respecting John Ruiz for his toughness make me a bad candidate for promoter? Doesn't mean I'd sign him.

I just wish Lennox Lewis had fought Ruiz and gotten rid of him. LL was bigger and stronger, and I imagine he'd just lean all over Ruiz until Johnny was sucking wind, and then take him out.

'course, Ruiz has been taken out before, and like a bad horror flick, he just keeps returning...

Well, I think you are right on the money - I see Ruiz as a "throwback fighter" you know, like the kind who used to wrestle bears in saloons - yeah, that or he is the kind of fighter you throw back by telling him to get the hell out of your gym as soon as he opens the door!! Disgrace to the sport of boxing he is.....

I'm just saying, he fought back valiently, and kept his title by showing toughness. I'm not saying I thought he won. I'm just saying he fought like a true champ. I'm not a fan of his at all.

asian sensation,

I fully respect your opinion, it just that its (in my opinion) wrong. NO, he did fight valiently, he fought like a child molestor. NO he did not show toughness, real toughness would have been actually fighting back after being knocked down. And, finally, he certainly did not fight lke a "true" champ or any type of "champ." He fought like a pug- a whiny, slothly, pansey-ass pug. Period. Real champions don't clinch 150 times in a fight....EVER.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! Hey, isn't tua going to make a comeback in 2005, maybe we can sign a petition to get the tuaman in the ring with ruiz again. I'd pay money to see "Huggy Bear" get his head removed from his body by tua's left hook....hahaha!

Anyone who respects Ruiz as a fighter can't possibly love the sport of boxing.
Those who say "yeah, but it works for him", they too can't care that much for the state of the game.

This guy is the single worst "successful" fighter I have ever seen. Nobody who fights like him should have so many chances to be in the spotlight....win, lose, or draw.
He's a disgrace. His style is hideous, his attitude is ****ty, he's a crybaby, a *****, & his trainer should be SHOT.

This turd needs to be maimed to the point of no return inside of the ring.

Wait?! How exactly did he earn your respect? He fought like a champ? I'm confused, what the hell is going on here? Not only did Golota fought better than Ruiz, he actually went through the whole fight wihtout being Golota. Which I think hurt him a little by hesitating.

Anyone who hug more than he fight will never earn my respect (as a boxer). What a fighter do outside the ring is a different story. I don't judge fighters by their personal life but what he does inside the ring. And what he does just suck. Sure it works, but so is cheating your way through college (bad analogy, eh?). He's the most hated heavyweight for a reason.

Nah. Golota is more technical than Ruiz's sorry ass. No matter who this bum fight, all his fights end up a candicate for the most boring fight of the year. He's like a virus that infect every one it touches.

The thing is, he was behind in the Golata fight, and defended his title successfully. .

You said Golota deserved the dicision.

I'm just saying, he fought back valiently, and kept his title by showing toughness. I'm not saying I thought he won. I'm just saying he fought like a true champ. I'm not a fan of his at all.

That's the thing. He doesn't fight back! He hug them.
