View Full Version : Is Nas The Greatest RAPPER OF ALL TIME? Truth 05-01-2009, 04:08 PM yes or no? RAESAAD 05-01-2009, 04:14 PM He's top 5 dead or alive but I think the greatest rapper of all time is a matter of opinion. My favorite is Tupac but I also respect Rakim,Nas,Jay and Big as ATG aswell. Truth 05-01-2009, 04:15 PM ^anything with music is a matter of opinion, I agree. RAESAAD 05-01-2009, 04:16 PM ^anything with music is a matter of opinion, I agree. No doubt. Most can't deny who the greats are but you can certainly debate who's the best of the best. CaRnAgEViOLaToR 05-01-2009, 04:16 PM imo he is. i think he's got so many classic tracks. but then again its a matter of opinion like you said... ROSEWOOD 05-01-2009, 04:25 PM Nope!! I don't think I could even give you my all-time greatest rapper..But off top it would be Nas.... Now the greatest artist to ever grace this earth is Michael Jackson...hands down.. black.ink 05-01-2009, 04:32 PM In my opinion, yes. But like you all have said, that's just one man's opinion. I always held Rakim in the GOAT position and refused to see anybody take that from his mantle. Logically though, who has released a better output then Nas? We could all argue all day about who the best is, but i don't think i can take anybody serious if they don't have Nas top 5 all-time. To me, they are in denial. Old-school masters such as Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-1 and Kool G Rap laid down the foundations of what hip hop is and should sound like. Biggie, Nas, Tupac etc. took that, and ran with it. Although admittedly adding a commercial sound. I believe that we will hold current talent, such as Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Black Thought in the same regard as Nas and Tupac etc. in years to come. When hip hop evolves again. Truth 05-01-2009, 04:36 PM I'm going to finally say it....I think Nas is the greatest, even over 2-Pac........... that opinion could change, but as of right now. I'm giving Nas the crown... -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 05:00 PM 1 Tupac 2 Nas IMO, based on impact, status and overall succes. Truth 05-01-2009, 05:03 PM but had 2-pac not have been killed, would he have had the same impact? I mean don't get me wrong, I think Pac is top 3 unquestionably, and i respect the hell out of him.... -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 05:15 PM but had 2-pac not have been killed, would he have had the same impact? I mean don't get me wrong, I think Pac is top 3 unquestionably, and i respect the hell out of him.... I see what you're saying Truth, but is it really fair to say ''but what if he wasn't killed'' .. Rather I wanna base it on what actually happened.. And that was two coasts going at each other like crazy.. That's an impact alright. The Nas and Jay-Z battle almost did the same thing but to me didn't reach the impact of the Tupac and Biggie feud. And that was two coasts going at each other like crazy.. That's an impact alright. The Nas and Jay-Z battle almost did the same thing but to me didn't reach the impact of the Tupac and Biggie feud. But being killed doesn't make you better than somebody. I think 2-Pac being killed made him more iconic and legendary than he really is. I mean don't get me wrong, he is a legend, he is an icon. But I'm talking about rap music. Were not talking about anything, other than music. 2-Pac has a better flow. Nas has better lyrics. 2-Pac has a great discography. Nas has a great discography. It could either way.......I'm picking Nas. Although like I said, I could change my mind.....cuz I've always went with Pac before today. -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 05:24 PM But being killed doesn't make you better than somebody. When we talk strictly music wise then tupac is one of the icons who were the front figure in creating that good old 90's rap.. The golden age of rap we all love so much.. That's pretty influencial if you ask me.. No doubt he made an impact on rap.. He's an Icon just like Run DMC and MC hammer who did their part in making rap into the rap we know today.. Truth 05-01-2009, 05:31 PM When we talk strictly music wise then tupac is one of the icons who were the front figure in creating that good old 90's rap.. The golden age of rap we all love so much.. That's pretty influencial if you ask me.. No doubt he made an impact on rap.. He's an Icon just like Run DMC and MC hammer who did their part in making rap into the rap we know today.. And I said he wasn't, I never denied that. Pac is a legend and an icon of rap. But why is he a better rapper(MUSIC), than Nas? -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 05:41 PM And I said he was, I never denied that. But why is he a better rapper(MUSIC), than Nas? Wow, when you only want a reason -music wise- why he's better then I gotta say it's very subjective whether you prefer Pac's style of rap or Nas's style of rap.. You can always break down their music and say ''Keep ya head up'' had a better line than ''the world is yours'' by nas.. And do the same way the other way around saying nas had better lyrics, timing and beat in ''the message'' compared to ''trapped'' by pac.. As said, this is a very subjective matter.. That's why I like to go by impact, being influential, album sales, hits etc.. Because breaking it down bar for bar is individuel whether you like one style of rapping or the other.. Truth 05-01-2009, 05:45 PM ^thats certaintly one way of looking at it....thats reasonable. -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 05:49 PM ^thats certaintly one way of looking at it....thats reasonable. How about you.. What's your reason for putting Nas infront of Pac? Truth 05-01-2009, 06:01 PM How about you.. What's your reason for putting Nas infront of Pac? I just feel Nas is basically just is good as Pac. One thing 2-Pac has over Nas, is he has better flow. One of the best ever. But at the same time, Nas is a better lyricist. I use to say 2-Pac is better because he wrote song people could feel in the heart, but so did Nas. I use to say 2-Pac is better because he do every style real good, honestly so can Nas. Nas can go hard and do the gangsta style Nas can make deep songs. Nas can make politcal songs. Nas can make party songs. And Nas is still going, and will continue to make more and more music. Its not 2-Pac's fault that he can't continue to rap. But its hard to say 2-Pac is better than Nas, when Nas is probably going to make more great music for next who knows how many years.... With Nas's style, he might rap till hes 45. -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 06:07 PM I just feel Nas is basically just is good as Pac. One thing 2-Pac has over Nas, is he has better flow. You got a point there.. When comparing Pac to an ATG like Nas it really doesn't matter which one of them you give the no 1. spot.. Good arguments can be made for the both of them. Good arguments can be made for the both of them. oh yeah. i don't have a problem with someone picking 2-pac AT ALL.... MetalVomit 05-01-2009, 06:14 PM Nope!! I don't think I could even give you my all-time greatest rapper..But off top it would be Nas.... Now the greatest artist to ever grace this earth is Michael Jackson...hands down.. Prince Rogers Nelson, buddy. Mayorga-Rules 05-01-2009, 06:18 PM The Nas of Illmatic and It was Written takes on anyone, but i got to admit that Cormega could have been better than Nas. He does everything Nas does as good as him, and has a better flow than him. Too bad he doesn't get the exposure he deserves. -Blackout- 05-01-2009, 06:21 PM The Nas of Illmatic and It was Written takes on anyone, but i got to admit that Cormega could have been better than Nas. He does everything Nas does as good as him, and has a better flow than him. Too bad he doesn't get the exposure he deserves. Not many albums can **** with The Realness. RAESAAD 05-01-2009, 06:46 PM but had 2-pac not have been killed, would he have had the same impact? I mean don't get me wrong, I think Pac is top 3 unquestionably, and i respect the hell out of him.... He would have had an even greater impact. This guy was doing it at a very high level....Music,movies ect. Hip hops version of Elvis. Truth 05-01-2009, 07:26 PM He would have had an even greater impact. This guy was doing it at a very high level....Music,movies ect. Hip hops version of Elvis. True. but a different kind of impact. it seems like when you get killed in rap, it adds a different element to you......i can't explain it. Nicky Fatton 05-01-2009, 07:46 PM Stopped listening to Hip-Hop in 2005 but Nas is in my Top 5 All-Time. I keep Biggie in the GOAT slot because I listened to his tracks so much I memorized every single lyrics to every single verse. Lean On Me 05-01-2009, 07:49 PM Prince Rogers Nelson, buddy. That was my initial reaction when he said Michael Jackson was the best artist of all time. Other than dancing, Prince does everything a million times better than Michael. in regards to Nas being the greatest rapper ever? No, but hes up their within those ranks. Nicky Fatton 05-01-2009, 08:02 PM only time I remember Nas being "bested" on a track goes back to Life's a ***** when AZ spit that divine flow. One of the top verses of all-time. Of course Nas did the same to Raekwon on Verbal Intercourse Floyd Sinclair 05-01-2009, 08:05 PM Nas...2pac...Rakim...Krs One....take your pick. All 4 of them are respectable choices in my opinion, i go back and forth between them (no homo). I shaved my head today, so I went with Rakim in the poll. sisforshaq 05-01-2009, 09:11 PM I think Pac was more of an icon to pop culture. The James Dean, Elvis Presley, Hendrix type character. I would not disagree with anyone putting Nas at 1. I think what defines the GOAT is just personal preference.. whethere you weigh lyrics heavy, tracks heavy, beat selection, the ability to be consistent.. etc.. just all what you think. Floyd Sinclair 05-01-2009, 09:19 PM As far as impact goes i give 2pac the edge, but lets not act like nas hasnt made an impact...Anytime theres a poll comparing ANY RAP CD to ILLMATIC, illmatic is undefeated. Whether or not someone on here thinks its the best cd ever, the majority says that it is and thats very impressive considering that the cd is over 15 years old now. Nas has definitely made his impact on rap...and ron browz, the producer that made the ether beat, is still getting commercial success. He aslo calls himself "ether boy" which i think is very corny. All around, viewing it from every perspective without any biases, i can see very good arguments for Nas, 2pac, rakim, and krs one... Truth 05-01-2009, 09:25 PM I think by the time Nas stops rapping, he will be universally accepted as G.O.A.T. but I think Nas will rap till atleast another 5 years. at least. -EX- 05-01-2009, 09:38 PM I think by the time Nas stops rapping, he will be universally accepted as G.O.A.T. but I think Nas will rap till atleast another 5 years. at least. I think Nas could make an argument for GOAT but nowadays ppl won't accept it. New York has and will always be on Jay and BIG's nuts. And a lot of ppl will say Pac is GOAT. Nas' rhymes are too complex for today's rap and sum ppl don't like rappers who kick knowledge. Real hip hop heads would put him top 3 or top 5 at least but universally I doubt it... Floyd Sinclair 05-01-2009, 10:33 PM the popular concensus from just about every site that I've been on says that Nas is at least top 3... Big Lebowski 05-01-2009, 11:08 PM one of the best, influential Nicky Fatton 05-01-2009, 11:17 PM I have it 1. Biggie (personal taste choice) 2. Pac (not that big of a fan but I respect his accomplishments) 3. Nas (take the large body of work + the excellent flow and lyrics) |
