Well, we made the descision and we hired an attorney. Apparently the school district snowballed us with a bunch of BS and they did a poor job of it. Now we may be able to keep our son out of juvi, keep him from being expelled, get him the academic help he needs and then he has the opportunity to become a productive and positive memeber of society. The way it is now, he's headed down that path of a life of crime.

Zen: For your son's sake. Start documenting stuff now if you haven't already and get yourself educated in the law and your school district policies, etc. If you have the same problems I'm having, the sooner you start, the better off he will be.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I can send you to the right websites. It's amazing what schools will do to make you feel like a bad parent.

My son is labeled disabled by the school district. He has NOT received the help he needs, but the school receives funds for a kid like mine.

He took some knives to school which is, obviously, a big mistake. They hold what is called a Manifestation Determination Hearing to decide whether or not that his behaviour is a manifestation of his disability. They told us that "this is an infomral meeting to go over Daniel's 504 Plan" and it was not informal. We were hornswaggled bigtime. A 504 kid or a kid in special ed cannot be expelled if the act was a manifestation of his disability. We are fighting to get him retested for special ed to help him academically, which if he wasn't so damn bored in school (because he feels stupid) then he wouldn't do what he did. He has no interest in school because of the fact he doesn't get it. He's failing three classes and failed two in each of the previous two years. My plea's for help to the teachers and administration have fallen on deaf ears and I've been told he's lazy, not motivated, etc. But he is ADD.

"Healing ADD. The 6 types of ADD~How to see and heal them"

An amazing book that explains SOOOO much as to why kids like him do the things they do. I recommend it to anyone who has an ADD/ADHD kid.
