View Full Version : [PLEASE HELP] Is this true about Aussies and Kiwis???
Dubious-Dutch 04-21-2009, 03:23 PM Aussies and Kiwis are prime examples of a culture who are extrodinarily rascist towards british people for no apparent reason. I mean we created thier countries, made them what they are and then kindly left them to get on with things and all we get is **** off them, and its because of slack jawed idiots who bring thier kids up to hate the british.
I have never met anyone like this in Australia but maybe you natives will have a better point of view?
Infern0 04-21-2009, 04:34 PM Yes It's true, I said it and it is true, from first hand experience. I spent time travelling in N.Z and Australia and on multiple occasions had people attempt to start fights with me because of my accent. I had to put up with Derogatory jokes about Britain, and how british men are inferior to aussies and kiwis. The press over there is biased against everything britain does. Now I also met some good people, but seriously the amount of ****. I only noticed it after I had been there for a while, and I thought maybe everywhere is like this, until I went to the states and canada and never had one problem and I was there longer.

what bastards, however we did send criminals to live in their countries coz we didnt want them
Dan... 04-21-2009, 05:21 PM I don't think it is true. We have a healthy rivalry with the British sure. That is to be expected as they are the mother country. I don't know a single person who holds a negative opinion of British people. All the British guys that come out here to travel get treated well. So no, as far as Australia is concerned I would say that it is not true.

Sounds tough but to tar all Aussies with that broad brush is a bit harsh.

Greatwhitehope 04-21-2009, 10:48 PM Aussies are superior to the british, we look better, are more athletic, funnier and just all round more laid back and more likeable.
It's Britain that has the problem.

I'm a Londoner who's been living in America since the mid 90's and worked on cruise ships, with a bunch of Aussies, for many years - so I have experience of many of the above responses.
Aussies love to give British ****, but it's 95% tongue in cheek. Once you give back, they love it. If you whine or moan, they'll jump all over you.
Personally, I think that Aussie are more like Londoners, in accent & attitude.
I have a mate from Geelong staying with me in a couple of weeks. He still gives me **** over cricket (I've never watched a game in my life. Its for posh people), vegemite over marmite (bollocks), roast potatoes (both ways are good) and rugby (fair enough) and we've been drinking mates for ten years.
I now live in San Diego which I love but give me a bunch of Brits, Aussies, Irish & Kiwi's over anyone if you want a drink & a laugh....

Not all Aussies are like that, nor are all Kiwi's but a lot of them are, yeah most of them are just having a laugh, but many of them harbour a genuine grudge/dislike of british people, it comes out a lot after they have had a few drinks.
I'm not trying to have a go, i have many kiwi/aussie mates. I'm just telling you my experiences

Well said. That's sometimes the thing about us Aussies.
People don't always realise we are taking the piss out of them. Christ we do it to ourselves all the time. However having said that, we have our share of dip****s here just like everywhere else. Infern0 take people on their merits not because they come from a certain country. I know some American people that piss themselves laughing every time I speak. It's just the accent and no offence is intended or taken.

Saying that people in this country are brought up to hate British people is a joke.
Were you backpacking?
If a lot of locals at places like Bondi etc get sick of backpackers.

I'm not saying all people are brought up that way, but a number of them are, when Aussies and Kiwis come to the uk they are welcomed like longlost cousins, In Aus and NZ I felt like I was tolerated at best, and as I said in the US and Canada I was treated much better and got better vibes.
brently1979 04-22-2009, 02:45 AM We get sick of Pomie backpapers to tell you the Truth.
Azana 04-22-2009, 09:47 AM I dont think they are from what ive seen.

Places like the gold coast get a lot of revenue out of backpackers. But anyway no I wasn't backpacking i'm not a poor teenager I was staying in hotels in places like airlie beach, noosa and bribie island, like I say, met lots of nice people, but a fair few ignorants too.
Greatwhitehope 04-22-2009, 07:45 PM I'll always rip into anyone who's not from where I'm from, if someone's a Yank I'll write off America, if someone's a Queerslander I'll write off Queerland.
Hell, if people live in the fishing town 2.5km south of me I'll call them filthy fisherman and if they live in the quiet old fashioned country town 4km north of me I'll write them off for being bumpkins.
I'd go so far as to say I've argued with people who live two streets up from me about why my streets better. It's all just a bit of a laugh.

In all seriousness im a english born aussie and unless your one of these groups of english lads going from pub to pub being ****holes then no1 over here gives a flying **** where you are from. Makes me ashamed to have been born in england listening to guys who cant take a bit of tounge n cheek.
FilmFan 04-30-2009, 06:19 PM I used to like Australia, but then I saw the movie Wolf Creek and so now I assume that they all crazy serial killers.
Despite this, I am still not as quick to jump to ridiculous conclusions as you.
Infern0 04-30-2009, 06:30 PM I'm not jumping to conclusins, IT HAPPENED, and it didn't happen in Egypt, Usa, Canada france, spain germany, south africa or anywhere else, only nz and australia, you guys can deny it but you werent there were you? also while i was in new zealand a scottish backpacker was murdered for no apparent reason other than she was british

Mate there is good people & bad in every country. If I went to England and got badmouthed by a few smart arses, that doesn't mean I 'd tar every pom with the same brush. No matter where you go in the world you are going to come across dip****s from time to time.
Infern0 05-01-2009, 12:04 AM Yeah I know, like i said, 90% of aussies are great blokes but there are ones there that don't like the english.
