LAS VEGAS -- Dewey Cooper, the runner-up at last month’s Battle at the Bellagio K-1 tournament, tested positive for a banned steroid immediately after his championship fight, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission.

> The results of a urinalysis showed the presence of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, in Cooper’s system, according to a complaint the commission filed on May 11.

Cooper, at 202 pounds, is one of the most undersized K-1 heavyweights in the world. He beat a 240-pound foe in his first-round fight last month, then toppled a 280-pound opponent before falling short in the championship fight as boxing legend Muhammad Ali watched at ringside.

Cooper has the right to contest the results and appear before the commission, though a date has not yet been scheduled.
