AZ is underrated. Hes barley ever talked about, but he is one of the best lyricists I've heard.

AZ is still one of the best to do it IMO. Aziatic was hot, The Format and A.W.O.L. also had some very good tracks. Do Or Die may be a classic. You can also make an argument for Aziatic.

It's not so poor that it warrants labeling AZ, "overrated". His albums have featured some of the best producers to ever do it and he's as nice as anyone on the mic.

His last effort was certainly disappointing but...."overrated"? Historically? No. Lyrically? Nah....I don't know who you see rating him so highly so often because I hardly ever see it.

Doe or Die is great, Aziatic and AWOL are both enjoyable front to back, 9 Lives and Pieces... were both solid and Format was spotty. Final Call was scrapped but had some very nice singles on it. He has consistently been one of the most gifted rappers since he broke through all of those years ago.

On the strength of The Fix's comment, I actually re-listened to AWOL & Aziatic again. I can see why AWOL may be considered a classic, but I still think It's a near classic. Aziatic, a good album but not a great album.

Saying he is overrated may have been a little over the top, I just feel like some of the production that he gets takes away from his albums on alot of occasions.

He's in mosts' top 10 lists that I see, but if you haven't seen many people rating him that high I guess you wouldn't know where I was coming from.

In my opinion Doe or Die is his only classic, AWOL near classic, Aziatic & Pieces are good but not great, The Format was mediocre, and Undeniable & N.4.L. were awful. Never heard Final Call.

bottom line, AZ has one of the sickest flows in hip hop history. he is not a favorite of mine and i find his voice somewhat monotonous, but he's an extremely talented MC. with certain relatively unrecognized artists i find that it sometimes becomes "trendy" to love them off, and while i think that it's super trendy to love off AZ and claim that he is sooooo underrated, it's not without solid evidence. he is sick. underrated? no. overrated? no. and is he as slept on as people say? no. it's become super cool for your favorite rapper to be an unknown. people acting like he's so under-appreciated is a bit silly because if you honestly evaluate his popularity amongst the hip hop community, he is pretty well known and is rated pretty damn high most of the time. there's nothing wrong with that.
