Tim Sylvia will box Ray Mercer in a MMA cage.
The bout is scheduled for 6 rounds.
Sylvia will be making his boxing pro debut.
Mercer 48 is coming off a win against Richel Hersisia (30-2)
Sylvia's last bout was a losing effort against Fedor.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this event. The undercard will consist
of a full MMA card, this is why the Mercer fight will be in the cage.
Date: June 13th.
Hmmmmm

It's stupid as hell isn't it lol.
Ray maybe old but he's always had a iron chin and hits HARD.
The only thing that saves Tim is either Ray's age or the fact that an MMA ring is going to be weird as hell to box in.
I don't have a problem with this at all. I like watching people fight, so game on!
how can it be Sylvia "pro" boxing debut? It's in an MMA cage, surely it won't be sanctioned as Professional Boxing??

This fight is about as useless as Nick Diaz calling out Roy Jones.

Tim Sylvia got outboxed by NON-punching MMA fighters. Couture is a ground specialist with average punching abilities and he dropped sylvia in the first couple of seconds in their fight.
Sylvia is sick if he thinks he can do anything in boxing.

It is what it is. The fight will be in the cage due to the logistics.
This means the main body of the card is MMA. It will be a first if it happens.

Nick did that?
Anyway Mercer probably wins a pure "boxing" match.

Superstar boxer Roy Jones Jr. has expressed interest in facing UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, after Silva had let his intentions be known that he wished to face Jones in a boxing contest. Promoter Bob Arum was eager to promote such a bout to let the world see that "those MMA guys can't throw a straight punch".
Unfortunately it seems the impedus to set up such a fight is dead in the water, since the UFC is no hurry to see their Champion compete in a venue not being promoted by them.
Enter Nick Diaz. With Strikeforce's more flexible attitudes towards fighting and the Strikeforce-Showtime alliance, the barriers to such a fight could very well be coming down. Our camp has already contacted Top Rank Boxing to let them know we would be 100% in favor of such a matchup. Now the ball is in their court.
Even though Jones does not fight for Top Rank.

True, I'll still watch it and hate myself for doing so when it's over.:sad2:
Just an odd match up and conditions.:boxing:
