View Full Version : Apparently there is an American football comp here!
seldomTap 05-09-2004, 11:40 PM I knew that there was one, but hadn't met anyone that actually played in it (in my state anyways) tillt his morning. This American guy in my gym came up and asked me if I was interested in playing for his team that he coaches here. I had spoken to him before so he knew I play rugby and being that I am bigger than average, I guess he figured I would be suited to it.
My years of dedication to Maddens football paid off because he told me he was looking for a guy who could play both sides of the ball, tackle and defensive end, and I knew what he meant and I think he was genuinely shocked...I felt pretty damn cool!
The season is in summer here which will be kinda interesting, pads and helmets + 110 degree days don't necessarily mix I think, but I am thinking I will at least go have a look...could be fun.
Also could be fun to be told I need to gain a few pounds instead of dropping!
I weigh around 255 - 260 now, the guy said that will be fine in this comp ( he is around 320!) cause he thinks I am pretty strong and can probably move ok...
Any tips??

GeNeRaL 05-10-2004, 10:17 AM lemme tell you...these days Defensive ends aren't huge 300+ pounders. The new thing is speed from the end on the pass rush. at 250-260 if you are quick and explosive you can own the position of defensive end bro. the really fast ends like Gbaja-Biamila, Jason Taylor, and Jevon Kearse are perfect examples, all weighing i believe in the 230-250 range.
Give it a shot, you might love it :)
Stain 05-10-2004, 11:00 AM Seldomtap, that is awesome bro. All I can say is keep training hard, hit the weights and do some speedwork. You are a monster so go out there and ****ing kill people!!!

Almost word for word what the guy in my gym told me man!
Am pretty keen, is something new that I haven't done before, so should prove kind of a challenge, but also pretty much up my alley also.
Fallout 05-10-2004, 10:28 PM If your playing on the line, your gonna be forearm splits. Like shin splints but in your arms. I used to get them all the time. You get used to them though.
Its a great game Seldom, you will enjoy it

I've played both, and they are both hard as hell on your body
seldomTap 05-13-2004, 09:32 PM Hahahahahaaha...Aussie rules is soft as ****! When I was 19, I broke my collarbone playing rugby, Doctor told me cause it I played Rugby, I would need probably 10-12 weeks off for healing etc, but if I played Aussie rules, back in 6 cause the contact is SO LIGHT.
Back to your petrol sniffing sub guy!
