For me it's Nas.. I don't really got nothing against Jay-Z just never really cared much for his music. Nasir on the other hand got something special.. Great lyrics. Illmatic and Stillmatic pretty much does it for me even though Reasonable doubt and Blueprint is decent but not really my taste

I know it's a hard choice but if you had to pick.. Who would it be, and if can ''why?''

nas - simply becaus he is my favorite artist in any genre. he makes great music and he is a great lyricist. he definitely has something special and it shows all the way from illmatic to gods son to hip hop is dead. and he is one of my heroes...yes, a rapper is one of my heroes.

I gotta go with Nas...so much of his music is timeless to me. Nas is more then just a rapper to me, hes a poet with an incredible ability to write his lyrics, telling deep stories in alotta his songs. His ability to paint pictures in my head is unmatched by an other rapper. Project Windows off Nastradamus is the first song that comes to my head, where he raps about what he see's lookin out his project window.

I prefer Jay-Z. I'm not going to explain why he is my favorite of all time, because I'm tired of doing it. lol....

The poll is for which one is better. But the title of thread is which one you prefer...

Nas is always going to be my favorite, he's already put in enough work to earn that spot. Illmatic, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes & It Was Written are albums that I am constantly listening to. I consider Illmatic & Stillmatic to be just true works of art.

To me, Reasonable Doubt is right up there with all the other ones I named... It was great. But as much as I really enjoy Jay-Z's music... He hasn't put out another album that I've enjoyed as much as those five.

If we put together some criteria and did a critique, Nas could end up in front... I do think he's a little more gifted in some ways, but I prefer Jay-Z's collection of work...

Nope. I've said since 2006, that Jay-Z is my favorite of all time. Nas is my second favorite of all time, and Method man is my 3rd favorite of all time.

with music, at the end of the day its all opinions. and no ones opinion is really better than anyone elses. Its just your personal taste....its like food. if somebody likes Chicken more than Pizza. Its not fair to say, your wrong Pizza is the best.

Both of these dudes are top 5 of all time imo. They are living legends. I think they both bring it lyrically just in different contexts.. their beef was a defining moment in hip hop and sparked two of their greatest albums Stillmatic and The Blueprint. I think when it comes to consistency over the course of their careers Jay has been more on point. Jay has a brilliant ear for beats and knows how to appeal to multi genres while keeping his "street" base. I was excited as **** when Jay brought Nas over to Def Jam because I thoght Jay would lend that ear for production over to a Nas album and give it a crazy feel. We got "Black Republicans" out of them and the cut off American Gangster. They are both incredibly gifted but for me I enjoy Jay's albums over Nasir's. I look at it this way...

Nas- Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, God's Son are the essentials for me in his career.

Jay-Z- Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime Vol.1, Hard Knock Life Vol.2, S.Carter Vol.3 ( still remember when I bought that record), Unplugged, The Black Album, and American Gangster.

Those are essentials for me in Jay's catalog. Plus I still enjoyed Kingdom Come and Bp2.

im just syaing, jay dissing nas for not releasing a hot album between illmatic and stillmatic....i mean, its not like he was releasing classics himself between reasonable doubt and blueprint. he was definitely having more commercial success.

but like truth said, all matter of personal taste....but you cant say it was written wasnt a classic or a near classic. nas had some crazy tracks on there.

both legends of hiphop.

and Hov's old material over Nas' new material.
