UFC ANNOUNCES 7 FIGHTS FOR UFC 100, 3 "SUPER FIGHTS"

Chris Insinna

For the Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization’s historic UFC® 100 event on Saturday, July 11th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, a stacked card featuring the best of the best in mixed martial arts is not only expected, but required. So to celebrate this once in a lifetime event, the UFC is pleased to announce three featured bouts that would be main events on their own anywhere in the world.

In the main event, the undisputed UFC® heavyweight championship of the world is on the line when reigning titleholder Brock Lesnar faces interim champ Frank Mir in one of the most highly anticipated rematches in heavyweight history.

The co-featured bout of the evening will see UFC welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre risk his title against feared striker Thiago “Pitbull” Alves, a man many believe has the style and size to dethrone the seemingly unbeatable champion.

And rounding off this trio of superfights is a pivotal middleweight matchup pitting the coaches of the current season of The Ultimate Fighter®, Dan Henderson and Michael “The Count” Bisping, against each other in a bout that will push the winner even closer to a 185-pound title shot.

In middleweight action, Japan’s reigning middleweight star, world-ranked Yoshihiro Akiyama, makes his long-awaited UFC debut against Alan “The Talent” Belcher, who spoiled international standout Denis Kang’s Octagon debut earlier this year.

Exciting 21-year old up and comer Jon Jones makes his first start since his huge victory over Stephan Bonnar in January when he takes on former Purdue wrestler Jake O’Brien in a light heavyweight match.

Judo black belt Dong Hyun Kim will look to put together another impressive outing this summer when he takes on always exciting Canadian Jonathan Goulet in welterweight action.

The Ultimate Fighter season seven finalist CB Dollaway will look to make it 3-0 in the Octagon since his stint on the show when he takes on season eight’s Tom Lawlor in a middleweight bout, and also added to the UFC 100 card is a lightweight clash between Matt Grice and Shannon Gugerty.

Hell yes, it is going to be a great card.
I can't wait to see Brock Lesnar destroy Frank Mir.
Like it should have ended in their first fight.

Yawn, For an organization claiming to have the best fighters in the sport, how does Dollaway find himself on the main card, why would anybody care about Hendo/Bisping, and is the HW division really that bad that Mir/Lesnar is the main event for the UFC championship.

Alves/GSP is a fight id like to see but please, I was under the impression this card was going to be stacked. But I guess if people are willing to pay for every card, the UFC can continue putting on lackluster cards every 3 weeks.

I guess I still have a sour taste after UFC lined Lesnar up with soft touches to a title shot.

now, that's a fight card. pay attention boxing.

Pay attention to what. Boxing has put on some fantastic cards this year, and almost all of them were....FREE. UFC cant say the same thing.

Put the hatorade down dude and the sour taste will go away.

CB Dollaway isn't in the main card, he's on the prelims. And as far as Bisping/Hendo goes. Right now it isn't anything to scream and shout about. But with the Ultimate Fighter being the hype machine behind it you can bet that many people will care about it once it comes aound. The nationalistic feel behind that bout will sell it easily.

Couple that with 2 title matches, one being a rematch and the other being the only relevant fight left at 170 with regards to the title it's a very good card as it is. Fact is boxing seldom puts on cards with such big names all on the same card. I mean you can take the Hendo/Bisping, GSP/Alves & Mir/Lesnar II and pu them all on separate cards as headline fights because they all have enough interest to be main event fights. Yet they put them all together on one card. I haven't seen boxing do that at all this year.

Yawn, For an organization claiming to have the best fighters in the sport,

Well it is a fact they do have the best fighters in the world...look at top ten lists...look where the majority of the fighters on those lists are under contract with....bingo the UFC. In fact

how does Dollaway find himself on the main card,

is he?

why would anybody care about Hendo/Bisping

because they have an entire tv series promoting this fight...that might make people care.

and is the HW division really that bad that Mir/Lesnar is the main event for the UFC championship.

Well what rock have you been under for the last year? Mir beats Nog and Lesnar beats Couture....sounds like this is a logical appealing fight.

Alves/GSP is a fight id like to see but please, I was under the impression this card was going to be stacked.

It is stack....two title fights with 2 huge MMA fighters makes it stacked. It will do over a million PPV buys easy.

I guess I still have a sour taste after UFC lined Lesnar up with soft touches to a title shot.

Well thats what happens when the UFC has to deal with ******* fighters like Couture who holds up the division by refusing to fight #1 contenders like Nog. Couture forced the UFC to come up with the interm belt bull**** and everything got ****ed up.....

Pay attention to what. Boxing has put on some fantastic cards this year, and almost all of them were....FREE. UFC cant say the same thing.

Really???...You are telling is boxing promoters have put on cards with two MAJOR title fights involving #1 contenders and and another main card fight with an ENTIRE season of a reality show backing it? Are you sure a boxing promoter has done any card remotely like this? Are you ****ing kidding me?

GSP/Alves is a great match at 170. Im looking forward to it.

Hendo/Bisping is a fight that wont have a title on the line and im sick and tired of the UFC shoving Bisping down our throats. Hes not very good and I know they've been trying to position this guy for a title shot but the fact is he wont get one and if he did, he'd get killed. Its a good fight on the main card but calling it a "super fight" is ridiculous. HAHA.

Mir lost 2 of his last 4 fights before beating Lesnar. The fights he lost were to Vera who cant win even at LHW and Pe de Pano whos no longer with the UFC. His 2 wins were against Christison whos not good and Hardonk whos a 1 dimensional kickboxer who will never be in title contention.

The UFC signs Lesnar, throws him at Mir because Mirs a "name" and they knew Lesnar had a realistic shot at beating Mir because Mir has looked awful in the past 2 years. But if he loses its no big deal because Mir is a former "champion."

Mir than goes onto beat a completely shot Noguiera who has looked awful in the UFC. He barely beat Herring in fact almost lost to Herring, than he looked like a heavybag against Sylvia for 2.5 rounds before getting a submission against a horrible ground fighter.

Lesnar meanwhile, beats Herring who cant fight wrestlers. The UFC knows this and gives Lesnar a soft touch. If you think Herring was a tough fight for Lesnar, watch another collegiate wrestler in O'brien beat up on Herring for 3 rounds. Than the UFC somehow, SOMEHOW gives Lesnar a title shot against Couture whos another fighter that did not DESERVE his title shot. Couture got KO'd by Liddell than retired, came back a year later to fight Sylvia for the UFC HW title. Couture than went onto beat Sylvia and than Gonzaga who we now know is not very good and was clearly living off that KO win over Crocop. Couture retires and comes back 15 months later to fight a man with similar wrestling credentials, only difference is Lesnar is much bigger, stronger and athletic than Couture. Lesnar although awful on his feet does have power and Couture has shown he can be KO'd by single shots.

So really Mir beat a 1-0 MMA fighter than a shot Nog to win the title while a 2-1 UFC fighter lost to Mir, beat Herring in a 3rd decision and than KO'd a 220lb former LHW for the title. Now Mir/Lesnar will meet again for a fight that I really could care less about. Because at the end of the day, they arent the best HW's.

Boxing hasnt even had an HBO PPV this year in 09. And yet we have still had Margarito/Mosley, Diaz/Marquez-Juarez/John (Diaz/Marquez was the best fight ive seen this year including MMA) and great HBO Dark cards.

UFC's best Free card, Stevenson/Sanchez. LOL. And keep in mind you had to pay to see Jardine/Rampage and Franklin/Hendo.

Who cares about a reality show. The bottom line is its a decent fight on a main card. Thats it.

Well what rock have you been under for the last year? Mir beats Nog and Lesnar beats Couture....sounds like this is a logical appealing fight.

Nog is shot, Lesnar had 1 fight in MMA, none in the UFC when he fought Mir. And yet he still almost won.

It is stack....two title fights with 2 huge MMA fighters makes it stacked. It will do over a million PPV buys easy.

Who cares if it does over a million buys. Thats what happens when you bring in a WWE entertainer. Hes a "NAME." And last year he was responsible for the UFCs top 3 PPV events.

Well thats what happens when the UFC has to deal with ******* fighters like Couture who holds up the division by refusing to fight #1 contenders like Nog. Couture forced the UFC to come up with the interm belt bull**** and everything got ****ed up.....

What? Lesnar got a free ride to the title over more worthy contenders. Thats what I have a problem with. The fact that the UFC doesnt go under any legitimate ranking system and allows big name fighters to jump ahead of proven fighters for a title is what i have a problem with.

Really???...You are telling is boxing promoters have put on cards with two MAJOR title fights involving #1 contenders and and another main card fight with an ENTIRE season of a reality show backing it? Are you sure a boxing promoter has done any card remotely like this? Are you ****ing kidding me?

Sorry but the UFC HW title right now is not major. There are a few HW's around the world who could wipe the floor with Mir and Lesnar. Hell, there might be a couple in the UFC who can beat both Mir and Lesnar. Again about your reality show. Is that what its come down too for MMA fans. They get all giddy about some meaningless reality TV show fight? Who cares. There have been a ton of great boxing cards this year and almost all of them have been FREE.

Like I said earlier, MMA fans have had to pay for Hendo/Franklin, Jardine/Rampage and now Silva/Leites but dont worry this card has Liddell/Rua. HAHA. Rua has looked awful and Liddell cant buy a victory.

It's still a former 2 weight world champ against a TUF winner and with the TV show behind it it elevates it above other fights below them because it has obvious title implications as well as a healthy nationalistic aspect. You have the UK's most well known MMA fighter against one of the best fighters ever.

You do know that Mir was coming back from a serious motprcycle accident. Any fighter or athlete isn't going to be the same after that. Very seldom do you even see guys who can comeback from such things. Yet he did and did what no other man has been able to do and that is stop Big Nog. People can look for all the excuses they want. But the fact still remains he's done what no other man can claim to have done.

Now Mir/Lesnar will meet again for a fight that I really could care less about. Because at the end of the day, they arent the best HW's.

Is this a history lesson or are you trying to make a point. Lesnar got his title shot for money plain and simple. If you wanna blame someone, blame Couture. He was offered the Nog fight and didn't take it. Then after being offered the Lesnar fight along with a new contract he decides to comeback. And again you can look for all the excuses you want for why Couture or Lesnar didn't deserve their title shots. Fact is it happens in boxing all the time. Guys get shots because they sell PPVs and events. It's business plain and simple. All you are doing is downplaying them without actually trying to look at the match from an objective standpoint. I mean you say ts not a good match up yet you don't seem to have any explanation other than "he's one dimensional" "he can't fight wrestlers" (which is BS cos Herring had no trouble fighting and beating Tom Erikson and Mark Kerr) "they've fought shot fighters" "they don't deserve to be there", "they're not even the best HWs", blah, blah, blah. Yet you don't say who should be there in those positions. The fact remains that whether they (Couture and Lesnar) deserved the shots or not, the still beat the champion. Lesnar deserves to be there as does Mir. You say you don't care yet you are still talking about it. Hatorade plain and simple.

All of which were backed with awful undercards that weren't worth the TV time. If you love boxing so much more then why even bother talking about MMA. All you seem to have proven is that you're just hating. Like boxing is some sort of pure sport that doesn't screw over fans on a regular basis with their overpriced PPVs that feature one big fight and a bunch of no names on the undercard. You tell me any card in boxing this year that has resembled UFC 100's card.

LOL, it's a good card but a little overhyped... GSP - alves will be great action, and when georges beats him everyone will see GSP is the most dominant welterweight champ ever

if mir can't beat lesnar again, shane carwin will. if they fight he knocks lesnar out
