Broadcasting legend Sir Michael Parkinson has attacked Jade Goody, days after her funeral. Speaking to the Radio Times, he said the reality TV star represented: "all that's paltry and wretched about Britain today".

He added that she was "ignorant" and "puerile" and despite being dubbed 'the Essex princess', bears no relation to Princess Diana.

He said: "When we clear the media smokescreen from around her death, what we're left with is a woman who came to represent all that's paltry and wretched about Britain today. She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know both drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile."

Sir Michael went on: "She was projected to celebrity by Big Brother and, from that point on, became a media chattel to be manipulated and exploited till the day she died."

The 74-year-old added: "What bothers me is that the media first of all recommended we hate Jade Goody - 'a slapper with a face like a pig', remember? - and shortly thereafter tried to persuade us to celebrate her."

Calling her "the perfect victim of our times," he contended that she "died to an orchestrated chorus of exploitation". Jade, the mother of two sons, died on Mother's Day aged 27 after battling cervical cancer.

Sir Michael revealed that he'd wanted to interview the Big Brother star, saying: "She has a fascinating back-story."

Jade's publicist and friend Max Clifford said: "I'm very sad and surprised at his comments."

To be honest I agree with much of what Parky is saying. He isn't meaning to be nasty about Jade, But she is a poster child for what is wrong with modern britain.

Its a sick business, but made even sicker by the fact that everyone was dumb enough to not question it, and got all weepy over the 'racist, gobby, thicko' Jade, when everyday they read about rape, genocide and child abuse, without a flicker of emotion.

If Jade was alive today and doing well, the media would be praying she has a mental breakdown and developed a serious heroin problem.

I agree with Parkinson 100%. It was bad enough when that self promoting upper class whore Diana died, now we have to face a "national outpouring of grief" over a mouthy classless council estate slag whose main claim to fame is that she showed her vagina on television?

He's bang on right, he's said what I hope most of us have been thinking. I tried getting my point across to people about exactly the same thing. How the media hounded her for being a racist, then as soon as she announced she had cancer the media soon changed it's tune. I found it hard to believe she even had cancer and thought it was some sort've sick stunt she was pulling off to get the press on her side.
Feel sorry for the kids, no one at that age deserves to lose their mother, but it happens, I'm sure there are a damn sight load of other kids in Britain today who have also lost their mother at an early age, but not had the privilege of their mother being famous to cash in on a death.
Christ my mate lost his mother to breast cancer a few years ago, she'd battled through it once, but it came back a year later and she died. He was in year 11 doing his GCSE's and his younger brother who has learning difficulties was only 9 or 10 at the time. His dad was and still is a postman and they just have to live off his income now instead of 2, the only thing that's different is the council tax will be cheaper on the household as one less person is living there, but I'd sure take a higher council tax than lose my mum. The only press my mate's mother received was a tiny box in the obituary section of the local paper.
