this old conjur manages to sum it up fairly well. what he talks about are just some basic things but it'll give you the general idea.

only thing about his method is you've got to worry about taking uppercuts, aside from that it's pretty respectable.

yo

first of all id recommend avoiding clinching, if ur inside and dont wanna punch just try to get back on the outside. holding is soemthing judges and refs dont like to see. also the crowd..

its kinda a hard thing to practice in sparring, i always use to try to work on it early on, but never could so gave up on it, but in my last fight i found the guy grabbed me a few times and was there to be grabbed so i used it when i was tired... some guys are grabbable, most not. clinching is something that coems with experience id say. keep sparring and fighting bro

When I used to get into a clinch i'd be the gentleman boxer and would pull away even before the Ref' called it. One time I sparred a guy and we got into a clinch, I went to pull away and he just attacked me while still in the clinch, first time I realised a very important rule in boxing do not stop fighting until you're stopped. If you're like me and not really that strong, don't get locked into a wrestling match with them, this saps your energy in seconds. A tough clinch for a few seconds is way more tiring than 30 seconds of pure action. If you are strong however, it may work in your advantage to direct them, and yourself, into positions which will help when the clinch is broken. So, the best advice I can offer is to try and keep your weight balanced, get an arm free and punch until the clinch is broken, an easy move is to twist them down to the left and right hook them with their newly opened up guard. It's not a full power hook because it's mostly arm movement because its hard to transfer weight across in a clinch. You use your right because your left hook, without transferring the weight right across to your back leg again, can be pretty feeble.

Get some vidoes of Bernard Hopkins. He will demonstrate how to clinch, fight on the inside and give you a few pointers on dirty boxing.

Watch Ali in the second half of his career. In the second Spinks fight he wrote the book on clinching!

lol i used to clinch a lot when i first started to build a little bit of experience...especially againt this one fast kid who always throws swarming punches as comes in. i learned something real slick from bernard hopkins though- sometimes i get close like im about to clinch or grab my opponent/partner's arms but at the very very last moment i sneak in a punch down the middle, THEN clinch. drives everyone crazy.

The sneaker is a slightly over handed right hook to the head delivered at the instant you force a break away from a clinch. In boxing it is illegal for you to use this blow or any other after the referee has told you to break. But you can use it before he orders a break-when you make your own break. In fist fighting you can use it when ever you get the chance.

Heres what you do in a clinch when you havent room to punch with either hand (assuming your fighting an orthodox boxer I guess)1 keep your head in close to the left side of your opponent's head, with your chin slightly over his shoulder. 2 maneuver with your left hand untill you can grab the inside crook of his right elbow and hold his right arm he cant punch with it. 3 get his left arm under your right arm and clamp your right hand under his arm just above the elbow just below the bicep. when you hold him like that he cant hit you and your in the position to break away for a sneaker. Suddenly yank him tight with your right hand then shove him violently away and almost in the same movement whip a right hook up over his left shoulder and down so that the striking knuckles smash into his jaw or temple

When delivered properly your opponent will drop like a poleaxed steer and if not he will be so groggy a few shovel hooks will finish him off

Not quite word for word but pretty much from Jack Dempseys championship fighting (1950)

When I was clinching to tie somebody up I would always get my arms inside of theirs and lift my elbows and tuck my head. Get your arms/elbows on the middle part of their arm and they cant hit you with anything. Remember though that tieing up is just part of clinching, you can also use it to gain control or take the advantage on the inside....................Rockin':boxing:

Dont clinch. Just throw a very low uppercut that never reaches past the belt line. :boxing:
