punchDrUnK MONK 04-06-2009, 01:45 AM wow i recently upped my running to everday this week, and its insane how much the conditioning inscreases. i thought i had decent stamina before. now im shocked with how good my wind is...
5 times a week running in ur training is a MUST boxers
VERSATILE2K12 04-06-2009, 01:58 AM I was doing 7 at first but I do a labor job and it takes it's toll. Now only 4 to 5 days a week. Running is essential, it's a mental upper also.
KostyaTszyu44 04-06-2009, 02:55 AM i usually run 2-3 mornings a week and then do sprints on a saturday with our boxing team
but i think we're done with sprints now seeing as we are all fit again and are fighting on a coming saturday
Marlin26 04-06-2009, 03:32 AM should i be running for distance or time? like i usually do a 5k or a little shorter on some days and finish in 15 minutes flat. Others i go for longer runs like 8k's and the such and im done in 30.
Domey 04-06-2009, 04:40 AM A run schedule of 3 days on, 1 off, 2 on ,1 off is how I have always ran and has worked well for me and others.

vers, what's your real age? i could've sworn you were a year or 2 younger than i was when i first joined this place.
F l i c k e r 04-06-2009, 05:59 AM I hate running. I do it anyways. I do it everyday unless im not in the mood. Honestly if i am not in the mood then i dont do roadwork.
Brightguy 04-06-2009, 04:16 PM Domey, I like that schedule. It seems that's what I have to do. I notice that after 3 days my body and legs need a break. If I take a day off it really helps to increase my performance. I think that's a good suggestion and schedule. Thanks man for sharing.
Spacey1991 04-06-2009, 04:22 PM I run 3-4 days a week, reason I miss 3 is because I go to Boxing... and I go college also so can't get the time to run on days I go Boxing.
Chip2006uk 04-06-2009, 05:42 PM Running and ab excercises are my weaknesses. I try to run at least 3 times a week but Id much rather have a good workout or boxing session.
Played some football (soccer) at the park the other day, got much more excercise then i would have done from running, might have to start doing it regularly.
Ivansmamma 04-06-2009, 05:45 PM I only run two times a week, and i feel the need to increase the frequenzy because my stamina is far from great. I usually run about 3 miles. How long do you guys run? I usually dosen't have time to go running in the morning so i only have time to run in the afternoons when i'm not at the gym, gotta do something about that. What time a day do you run?
Chip2006uk 04-06-2009, 05:49 PM I only run 2 miles at a time (stopping in between). Yeah my stamina sucks
usually run around night time, anything from 8pm - 11pm. Its kind of bad because I run right next to main road and if the traffic is bad Im basically inhaling car fumes. Nice.
mathed 04-06-2009, 05:54 PM I usually run tuesdays, thursdays, and saturdays- 3 miles per session. I do abs and hit the heavy bag for at least 6 rds when done with abs
Domey 04-06-2009, 05:56 PM As I said before, I do 3 days on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off.
When I am just maintaining my conditioning, 4 3 mile runs, and a 5 mile run.
When I am training for a upcomming fight, I push it up to 3 4 mile runs, and 2 6 mile runs.
Chip2006uk 04-06-2009, 06:10 PM Is it better to run long distances at a slow pace, or better to run short distances at an explosive pace?
Am I right in assuming that long distance/slow pace means that you are training your body to recover easier and build overall stamina whereas explosive runs train your body to work at a high rate for longer?

For amatures, I would suggest doing a different type of schedule. Instead of running 5 distance runs a week, run 2 or 3. On the other days, do some HIIT. Amatures at most you are gonna fight is 4, 2 minute rounds. Those are very fast pace and intense rounds, so fighting for distance fights(Pro's) doesn't really do as much justice. It does help to run distance of course, but I would add some HIIT into your running regiment.

For these intense rounds, would it be good just sprinting as fast as possible up and down a road, changing speeds between lamp posts maybe ?
This would be my shcedule as far as training/road/gym work goes...
Monday and Wednesday - Sprints/Fartlek training in the morning - - - Boxing training later on
Tuesday and Thursday - 1-2 mile in the morning - - - 3 mile run later on
Friday - 1-2 mile run in the morning - - - Nothing at night because of work..
Saturday - Gym work, mostly boxing related but occasionally use weights - - - and 10 mins on the treadmill whilst there.
Sunday - 3 mile run in the morning - - - Nothing later on because of work again.
Does that sound good to anyone who has good stamina or is a good boxer ?

HIIT is basicly a full out sprint for between 30-60 seconds(Depending on your shape), and a short rest imbetween. If you haven't done this before, do this as many times as you can. If you can do it 3 times your first time, continue to do it 3 times reguardless if you think you can do more or not over the first week. The next week add two more reps, and continue doing so untill you feel accomplished. Give yourself a good week of doing a steady routine before you add more to it.
Reguardless of running, you should be training and working out as much as you can.
When I am maintaining shape, I work out three days a week. When I am getting in shape or preparing for a fight, I will be down the gym atleast 4-5 days a week, while running as well.
If you were to follow 3 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off. Try something along these lines.
Monday -- 3 Mile run, morning/night whichever you prefer(I prefer nights because it is dark and cooler out). Boxing whenever you go.
Tuesday -- I would do another 3 mile here, and goto the gym after as well. If that isn't an option and you would rather run twice, I would warmup in the morning with a small 2 mile run, and later on do HIIT.
Wednesday -- A short 1/2 mile run to warm up, then some HIIT. And also hitting the boxing gym.
Thursday -- Boxing gym.
Friday -- 3-5 mile run and boxing.
Saturday -- Short warm-up run and then HIIT.
Sunday -- Rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rest is just as important as working out.
Chip2006uk 04-06-2009, 09:31 PM Nice one dude, gonna start doing some HIIT in the coming days, just got to motivate myself to start running regularly again

this is what I wanted to say.
If you run 4 times a week run once for basic conditioning (like an hour) and do three times HIIT. if your conditioning is good with 4 times roadwork then it will explode with 3 times HIIT and one time normal roadwork!
