They are here for Pan Americano tournament between Brasil, Argentina, Perú, Barbados Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Guatemala, Venezuela and Ecuador. It is cadets 15-16 years, one of them has already had 122 fights!

The training consists of light warm-ups then 10 rounds light but intense sparring, concentrating on speed and technique, changing partners each couple of rounds. 2 min rounds with 30 sec break. Next 5 rounds on the heavy bag high intensity. All with brand new adidas 10oz gloves. That was it.

One of the trainers won gold in Atlanta 1996. Interesting thing is that 6 of the 8 boxers are southpaw.

The games will start here on the 14 and go to 19th April. I will try to take some vids at training next week and have a chat to the coaches so if anyone has any questions they want me to ask let me know.

wow thats interesting! what ive noticed since ive been boxing is latin and european fighters seem to have most of the southpaws in the game. There has to be a reason behind that because we all know that left handed people are not that common

i'd say their coaches would have converted them to southpaws, some would be natural leftys though

the reason they'd be converted is cos its an advantage to be southpaw for starters and also it is good to lead with your power hand because it means you have a good strong jab and lead hook

Do they shadow box a LOT like the traditional Cuban system or pretty much just sparr? Is Jonathan Gonzalez there from PR? He's a 112 or 15 if he is, watch him fight.

Apparently they start them out by putting there dominant hands forward instead of back?

if they are about to compeat they are not shadowboxing they are sparring. the only way you learn how to fight is to fight, the shadowboxing is used in the first 2 cycles of training to stay sharp in the 3rd stage it is sparring for timing and reaction. hey trrr does the team still travle with the 4 extra people to watch the fighters, and are they still forbidin to talk to people?
