View Full Version : Is it ok to spar already even if I have only been in the gym for 3 days? andalusian81 04-02-2009, 09:16 AM Hello guys I recently started going to a boxing gym and Tomorrow is going to be my fourth day and my trainer said im going to spar already. You think It's ok to do that? will I get my ass kicked? Sam D. Menace 04-02-2009, 09:25 AM yes it ok that you spar already, i sparred on my 3rd time going there Richie-G 04-02-2009, 12:36 PM its ok but you will probably get your arse kicked peewee1460 04-02-2009, 01:22 PM first couple of times i sparred the other guy was a professional heavywieght working mostly defense but i was 125 and he was around 230. Spacey1991 04-02-2009, 04:23 PM Can't see why not, you gotta start sparring at some point. You will probably struggle at first and that but you will get better at it over time. Squabbles94806 04-02-2009, 04:27 PM If you've never sparred before or aren't used to getting hit and don't get into fights...then yes, you will get your cage rattled; unless you've only got powder puffs at your gym. Some new cats who just joined the gym a few months ago can't even go one round. They're gettin in shape, hittin the bag, yadda yadda...but sparring is a whole new can of worms. vein 04-02-2009, 04:51 PM no matter how much u get hit or hard u get hit just keep hitting back and keep throwing those punches don't stay in the ropes. g0tcha 04-02-2009, 05:23 PM hopefully you get a good sparring partner. getting into sparring is the make or break of the sport in my opinion. you have to break through your natural instincts. when you get hit your body goes into survival mode and you either turtle up to protect yourself and dont do anything, fight back, or run. you have to re-program yourself to access your training more so then the flight part of your fight or flight system. it helps if you are able to take it a little slower so you easy into it and you get your eyes accustomed to being punched in the head because your going to want to squint or close your eyes and or turn away. dont get put down if that happens to you. just keep at it and youll eventually train your eyes, body, and brain to use your training and then sparring will be tons of fun. nystate0fm1nd 04-02-2009, 07:10 PM No it's not bad. Expect to suck something awful and to get punched a lot though. I'd expect that your trainer won't put you in there with someone who will attempt to know your block off, which is good. Just make a mental note of what you **** up on (probably everything) and try to work on it later. Good luck, have fun. BrooklynBomber 04-02-2009, 07:25 PM It's pretty normal. GMitchell 04-02-2009, 07:35 PM Hello guys I recently started going to a boxing gym and Tomorrow is going to be my fourth day and my trainer said im going to spar already. You think It's ok to do that? will I get my ass kicked? People aren't going to be trying to KO you in your first spar. You'll get hit, probably on the nose a lot, and it'll hurt, but you won't notice it that much, the adrenaline stops it from affecting you other then mild pain. Ch@mpBox@PR 04-02-2009, 08:04 PM I sparred the 4th day I went to the gym. And the first punch that I got hited with Broke My nose. Then I fighted back and did OK, still got my arse kicked to ****. But now, that I have been at the gym for 7th months, the same guy cant keep up with me. The last time I spared with him, he barely survived the first minute. . So just expect to suck at first. After each day pass youll get better!!!!!!! andalusian81 04-02-2009, 08:05 PM Thanks for the support guys. Im gonna go to the gym now im excited! Ill tell you guys what happened after I come back. Wish me luck! hahahahaha andalusian81 04-03-2009, 12:18 AM Hello guys I did well in my first sparring session a while ago, but I don't know if I can call that sparring session a success because my partner was a coward! This is what happened, I was so nervous when I got in the ring especially all the people was looking at me I felt like running out of the gym (hahahaha) then the bell rang and we close the distance, He was really agressive and started with 1 jab and then a 1-2 combination which I was able to POORLY defend. I was disoriented and I paniced cause after that he started going forward nonstop and throwing different combinations. I did'nt know what to do and my trainer shouted jab! And I was able to get my bearings and I threw a hard jab and it hit my opponent really good. The funny part started here, My opponent suddenly stopped and we switched roles. I am now the attacker and I started coming forward but the funny thing is my opponent just got really scared and defended like he was not a boxer! Do you get what I mean? Its like just covering your face and putting your hands up in a non-boxer type of way ( I hope you get what I mean) And from there I just hit him with nonstop left right shots to the body cause he was covering his face and He said we he doesnt want to continue anymore. Next time, bend him over and shove that thick **** of yours into his ******* andalusian81 04-03-2009, 07:09 AM hahahaha I hope I get a good sparring partner next time potatoes 04-03-2009, 11:54 AM Manny Steward says that it takes at least 6 weeks to be ready for sparring. If these posts are to be taken seriously, then the state of training these days is much worse than I had previously thought. Iamnotausername 04-04-2009, 05:20 AM Nothing wrong with being out through a baptism of fire. You can hit the bag all you want and shadow box for months, but a few sparring sessions will teach you so much more. Bags and air dont punch back! I got my ass kicked so many times at first, but then tbh getting hit stops bothering you after a while, thats when you can focus on returning the favour. Dont be scared of getting hit if you want to fight just try and avoid it! KiengKoopa 04-04-2009, 01:26 PM Next time, bend him over and shove that thick **** of yours into his ******* That was a very very gay comment :moon: miamijohn 04-04-2009, 01:41 PM Hello guys I recently started going to a boxing gym and Tomorrow is going to be my fourth day and my trainer said im going to spar already. You think It's ok to do that? will I get my ass kicked? Prepare for a ass kicking. If you still wanna box youll be back the next day..If not BYE,you dont belong in the ring. Thats how i started and thats how I teach my guys. Im sure your coach or the guy you will spar against will take it easy to a degree...but you will get beat up. PessimisticPug 04-05-2009, 01:55 AM I sparred my first night, got knocked around alittle by an experienced boxer who was basically playing with me. They didny want to let me spar on my first night but I insisted and persisted until they finally laced me up. I was in good company and was taken care of, meaning they didnt let some guy light me up. Gotta be carefull in this game though, in the wrong crowd you could easily be hurt...............Rockin':boxing: |
