yea dats me, the fight in saratoga was very sloppy. i was late then i didnt have my mouthpiece so i was really tense and didnt perform well. i still thought i won but it was close and he was from saratoga so u know how that goes. it was a match bout so i got to move on to the east ny finals. i was relaxed and won that. now we got state this friday. Lenord is training us with the guy we worked the pads, and kevin works wit us on occasian.

From what I could actually see in the video, it looks like you are pushing your right hand alot. Maybe it's the quality of the video, but it also looks like you arn't turning it over at all either. Throwing it leaving your thumb up, instead of turning at the end of the punch. Can't really tell cause I am having a hard time seeing clearly in the video, but it definatly looks like you are pushing your right hand alot.

it's all good, dude. for what it's worth, it was probably the fight of the night.

based on the brief conversation my buddy and i had with lenord at that saratoga show, i'd say he's one of the nicest and realest dudes in the sport.

Yeah, there is a lot of history around that part of the country. I am old enough to remember Cus D'Amato on TV with the youngest undisputed heavyweight champion, Floyd Patterson. He was pretty close to 60 years old by that time.

Do you live in Catskill?
So,Rooney trains Krupp and that's it?
I mean Kruup lost against Serrano so his career is over.
Who are the promoters there Jake the snake Smith?
What about Joe Deguardia?

What's your gym?Police Athletic League?Sal helps guys in that gym,it's a shame that Gabriel Hernandez died.
Atlas is lazy, the guy doesn't help boxers.

Damn! What did Teddy say exactly?I heard that Teddy said that Krupp was a lousy bad fighter, basically a bum and Teddy also said that Rooney was one of the most incompetent
trainers on boxing.Plus he also said that Rooney's knowledge about D'Amato style was poor.
Is that true?
Anyway i would like to see Krupp versus Serrano, anyone has the fight?[/QUOTE]

yea all that and just bashed the style
i aint gonna lie i seen jay way better but teddy went at them hard
i saw it live on espn.com so it might be on there

Can definitely see Mike Tyson's style but you're kinda slow. No explosiveness and you stick your chin very high up in the air at times.

Hey, guys. I'm new to the site, but I've been a boxing fan all my life. I would really like to get into boxing seriously. I live in the Bronx, NY (about1 1/2 - 2 hours from Catskill, NY) and I was wondering if it's worth driving up that far north for a boxing gym? I can't afford any gyms around here, I have no job, I'm just a student. I want to get involved this summer, so I am trying to make a fast decision. Any help would be appreciated! How's the gym like up there by the way? By the way, great video, you're awesome!

Juan Laporte's gym sounds like money.
Dude fought Salvador Sanchez, Wilfredo Gomez, and Julio Cesar Chavez.

I imagine you'll probably spend similar money traveling 2 hours each way to Catskill as you would just dishing out the money for a local gym.

well the gym is good here open 6 days a week
theres a good amount of trainers and fighters
well theres many gyms in the city to choose from but im not sure if you can find ones that can fit your budget. were free uphere but like already mentioned will it be cheaper with traveling expenses.

The cheapest I've seen so far was the Morris Park gym, which is about 60 a month, plus 10 a day for a trainer. It looks like a good gym, but parking is hard to find over there. I also run into a lot of those boxing for "fitness" places. That Juan Laporte gym sounds like a good idea. I'll give them a call down there and check out their rates. I'll check around some more, make a couple of more phone calls and ask around. Hopefully something will come up. NYC is an expensive place :( I'll estimate how much it would cost me traveling vs going to a local gym.

Thanks,
Amir

Thanks. No luck. I've searched for a while. They really charge an arm and a leg up here in the bronx for a boxing gym. I'll take a look around some more and drive around the area again Monday. If I got time, I'll pass by Catskill to check it out. Thanks again guys.

Just saw the clip on youtube where teddy Atlas made the comments. Seems to me he was bashing the whole style.

So Atlas doesn't teach this style anymore?

im actually thinking bout doing the same. from mtvernon but live in queens now.

I go to gleasons in brklyn, but my trainer isnt too good at teaching this style.

im contemplating going up there. I cnt go regularly being that its 2hrs away and i have to pay tolls, etc each way. not really the best idea timewise.

im thinking maybe going up there once a week to get a few pointers/things to work on, and training myself at home? idk. what u guys think?

im 5'8" and about 185 12% bf with power (cutting to 178 come fighttime). training with my current trainer, "finding myself" i naturally tend to do this style somwwhat so im trying to fine tune it. but i need to find a good trainer.

cusd'amatokid
06-14-2010, 04:17 PM
^ hey whats good, u sound like u would be good for the style. so many come in and trainers try and make them do the style when their 6'3'' or 6'5'' ect. it isnt successfull with tall guys so to hear u are short and stocky with low body fat is good. some guys will put on weight when they should be much less lol. u seem like your built just right for it. idk what u pay at gleasons but it's free up here so you make up for traveling expences somewhat cause the training is free.
