One of Robinson's last major victories at 40+ years of age.

Two complete Ray Robinson fights:

** Hard to believe Robby could hold his own at an advanced age against a vicious bull like Fullmer.

Just as hard to believe how relentless Gene was after being knocked stupid by Robby a couple of years prior. Even more interesting how both changed style and tactics to suit during the fight with Gene sweeping the last half dozen rounds for the win.

I scored the Moyer fight as Moyer edging it. According to boxrec fight reporters thought the same and Ring described the action pretty much as I called it. The difference is per them the early and late rounds were Robby where I only gave him late rounds.

The final payback installment came on the rematch 4 months later with Moyer sweeping 7-3 X 3.

In the 2nd rd I heard "float like a butter fly and sting like a bee" being shouted out, presumably by Bundini Brown who came from the Robinson camp. Don't think Bundini gets enough credit for being the perfect foil for Ali and keeping him loose in high pressure situations.

To me, it was the way Robby dug deep and made himself so tough well past his best that puts him over everyone else.

As a side note, I noticed Big Tony Alongi introduced along side Henry Hank and Emile Griffith prior to the Moyer fight. Never seen any tape of him in spite of putting together a pretty good undefeated streak. I remember a draw with a prime Quarry and such.

Not sure what happened to derail his career, but I know he ended up with dementia in a nursing home and died a few years back. That Quarry bout would be a gem.

I may have seen footage of Alongi's fight against Chuvalo although I'm not sure.

Many thought that Robinson deserved the decision in the third Fullmer fight. I'll try to get the fight uploaded sometime soon if I possibly can.

It's so sad to see the speed difference between when he was younger and then now. You can really tell the difference watching fights back to back

Still he was quite good for a 40+ year old man with hundreds of fights. By his mid 40's he was losing to journeymen but at this point he was still competitive with top middleweights even if he didn't always beat them.

The third fight against Fullmer was thought to have been his last good showing.

Here's an article about it:

I thought Robinson won the third fight, the crowd seemed to think so and I think Fullmer said he started a bit too late in the post fight interview.

He would've been a 6 time middleweight champion which may have probably saved everyone from having to watch a 45 year old man trying to regain the title and losing to journeymen. Or maybe not.

I like this quote:

They just won't believe the Sugar Ray legend a thousand years from today. Why should they?

It has been only 50 years and there are already people who don't. :)

Yeah, seeing him knocked down and losing one sidedly to relatively light punching Joey Archer was quite depressing. But age catches up to every boxer, even the greatest of all time can't escape that.

I can't imagine what it'll be like in another 50 years.

Thanks for posting Manchine. It's the first time I've seen a full Robinson fight.

There's definetely still glimpses of Robinson's excellence.
