Hey Guys ive recently started at a boxing gym i have been going for about a couple of months like 2 or 3 months i keep forgetting and the work outs are killer! but it's cool i knew how it would be since i was in football for a bit and had fitness and conditioning in High School! and i absolutly love boxing! i'm going to start sparing soon the coach told me already and i'm a heavyweight and im not built or muscular im a little bit big and i love hitting the heavy bag cause i feel my punches way stronger now! and im already registered under the USA Amautuer boxing Association i think it was called LoL, oh and i was wondering my favorite boxer is Mike Tyson and i kind of want his style you know being an In-Fighter and putting pressure on your opponent and i just wanted to know if its harder being an In-Fighter then an Out-Fighter! also i want to know cause im about 5'11 or 6'0ft i dont remember and im about i think 240 or 245lbs! and i use to weight 260lbs when i first started Woo! But I just want to get some of your opinions! :boxing:

I wouldn't worry about being an outfighter or infighter specifically. Just practice the fundamentals and keep your form good and your style will come naturally. Your reach, handspeed, balance and all those other things will determine whether or not you are better boxing from a distance or better up close. Since your a shorter heavyweight you will probably want to get inside but you still have to be able to box from a distance, set up the hooks and uppercuts, and keep up your defense and head movement. If you like Mike Tyson you can watch his training videos and fights to get ideas for combinations when hitting the bag or sparring too.

although mike did fight on the inside from time to time he was mainly a mid range boxer. he would use his slip and bobbing to get under and around the longer arms of the conventional heavy weights to the mid range where he would fire off his combination's then either tie up or he would step back out. he would really have to step out majority of the time because his opponents would be stepping back so mike could keep coming forward and stay in his mid range for his combos. mike tyson is one of my favorites as well but i like all the different styles of boxing. tyson's lighting slips and bobs and his brute force body shots, ali and jones' footwork, mayweathers elusiveness and counters, leonards lightning quick and powerful combinations and his footwork too. i like mixing it up and using what gets the job done. learn the basics first before you decide which style you want to use.

Personally i would say you would have to be more conditioned to be a good in fighter, just because you are constantly chasing - like Tyson, or Hatton. And you dont really use the option of standing on your back foot and jabbing the other guy

IN MY OPPINION !

Thanks Guys or Girls for your oponions! Yes I do watch alot of Mike Tyson fights and found little of his workout videos! and I do take notes and then end up doing them at my gym when I'm hitting the bag! I do like to bobbing and weaving when I'm hitting the bag that way I can get use to it! I do watch alot of boxing when it comes on but I really like to watch some Wladimir Klitschko fights and I study them! and yes the coaches make everyone run alot and do alot of Exercise and I do like to wear my mouthpeice when I Exercise or Run! that way I can build up my stamina more cause I need it in my oponion being a little overweight, being a heavyweight and wanting to be in In-Fighter cause I knew from the get go then if I wanted to be an In-Fighter I would have to chase alot my Opponent! Oh and I wanted to know if anyone know where to find more workout videos from Mike Tyson? Thanks again for all your oponions! oh and one more thing how hard is it to go Pro? if anyone wouldn't mind explaining to me since I would love to go Pro if the coaches told me I had would it took after a few amatuer fights! :boxing:

Where are you going to be boxing? Are you from California? You do realize that the state of California has suspended amateur boxing, right?

I box up here in the Bay Area and I was pretty bummed about this too. I'm sure they'll reinstate it but as of now its been suspended indefinitely.

Man why is it everytime i start on a dream of mine! and that is to box and hopefully go Pro! some dumb ass's have to do stuff illegally and mess it up for everybody else! thanks though austinlarg i would of never know if it was for you! but damn now this brings me down a whole lot why even bother training! I hope they overturn it soon and beef up the security at places or remove all private boxing clubs from california and make them public! something like why should all of California have to suffer! oh well California is all messed up! damn this sucks!

hahaha yeah our state is definitely booty sometimes. but keep training and train hard. you'll be good in a few months to fight. im sure they'll reinstate it. if not, then you have to fight in reno or vegas. and thats not a bad idea.

Damn it now i need to talk to my coach about this! cause if i cant go Amauter then by god i will go Pro! No matter how hard i have to train or who i have to take out to reach my dream! I'm already 24 and i dont have all the time in the world! thats the only thing LoL! i wish they would of just banned it in San Fransico then the whole state of california! but then i know they have to make an example out of somebody! still sucks though

Well don't worry too much, work on improving your craft and when the suspension is lifted, you'll be ready to go. I mean, if the suspension is lifting in 6 months, you'll have trained for 8 months and will be ready to start fighting amateur bouts. Why rush yourself so much? Unless you're ready fight in let's say 5 months, don't.

Yeah that is true i just hope soon they lift the suspension i would just hate for all this training to go to waste if they don't lift the suspension! i wouldn't care if i was just going to get into shape but since i actually want to box it still kind of sucks! oh and i did my first sparring match today against my friend! i was taking to much jabs to my face though every time i would want to go in but for some reason i felt slow today usually i am a little faster hitting the bag and at weaving but it was like once i got into the ring i forgot how to weave away from the jabs LoL and the coach told me i have to work more on my bobbing and weaving! but i ended up connecting a right body blow to his stomach and he was down! but i have to work on getting faster on everything! but he was good though he kept making me chase him! i can't wait for my next sparring match hopefully i will be a little faster!
