View Full Version : Which UK TV Channel will be showing Carl Froch vs Jermaine Taylor?
AndyShitHot 03-24-2009, 04:44 PM Cos i'm desperate to see this fight and I heard people mention that Carl Froch might no longer be with ITV cos the fight is in the US and hence will be early Sunday Morning rather than Saturday Night. I just hope its not PPV so fingers crossed for Setanta or for ITV to stop being knobs.
The Clash 03-24-2009, 05:03 PM setanta at a guess ,cant see sky jumping on this one

leppard365 03-25-2009, 02:24 PM when is the fight ?
Savino 03-25-2009, 05:10 PM my guess would be ITV or Setanta.
truthseeker1 03-26-2009, 10:25 PM I doubt it will be ITV because I remember reading Mick Henessey say something like Froch is now Box office and the article implied that he'll no longer fight on TV. And in a recent radio show I heard Froch mention something about a contract with setanta, so I'm pretty sure the fight will be on setanta.
Trippy 03-27-2009, 01:18 AM Setanta have been bigging him up recently, they'll probably sign him up.
Testdead 03-27-2009, 04:43 PM According to a friend who is mod on his boxing site Hennessy has made a monumental blunder and they are not sure if anyone will be picking up the UK rights as ITV are digging their heels and want compensation from anyone looking to show the fight. ITV claim a verbal agreement was made to show Froch first two defences and although not binding a legal battle would mean by the time the rights were sorted the fight date would have past.
ITV also say it is not their policy to aquire big time boxing unless it is within 1hr of UK prime time.
Due to it being in America it wont be prime time and unless Setanta or Sky compensate ITV (which i doubt as Froch is not a big name and will draw pitiful figures) the likely outcome is a delay on ITV shown Sunday afternoon.
At the moment.

That is the biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard.
No wonder boxing isn't doing as well as other sports like football or rugby, it's because of **** like this that happens

Got an e-mail today saying Setanta is the last hope but also that Hennessy has got to build bridges as he has been slamming Setanta.
The guy who runs Cobraboxing said that Mick was sure that Carl would be on Sky and even wanted it on ppv but was told that Sky wont be signing any exclusives until after the Hatton/Pacquaio ppv figures are in late summer.
He said ITV will definitely not be showing the fight live as it will ba at 3am and the money that is wanted by Froch and Taylor make it a no starter.
He said he got an e-mail from Hennessy saying
"Dont worry Cobra fans we are close to making a deal with 5-live to have the fight broadcast live on radio 5-live"
The guy said that Hennessy told ITV to go jump as he thought a Sky deal could be reached now that isnt happening i think ITV have had enough of building fighters only to have them leave when the big fights happen.

Hennessey is an idiot he had a good deal with ITV and fighters always get more fans when there on there, just look what happened to Calzaghe when he was on ITV he was a nobody before and now he is a big name, There is no way that a Froch PPV would sell much more than 10,000 imo, Hennessey is a typical promoter thinking of short term gains over a long term investment.
Testdead 03-29-2009, 08:22 AM Could have put on a good card with Witter on the under-card but didnt.

I agree with this he could have built up a fanbase by fighting for itv then when the time is right make higher demands. Anyone that thinks Froch will sell many PPV's in the UK is delusional.
I for one will not be staying up till the early hours in the morning to listen to a radio station.

Why would anyone do that?
We live in the modern world now, there will be streams about.
Radio lmfao,
"Hey ma, get up and listen to Carl Froch's fight on the wireless"
number6 03-31-2009, 07:06 PM Fair point,
I would stay up and look for a stream, but they wouldnt be trying to strike a deal with 5live radio if they didnt expect people to tune in.
