View Full Version : I am thinking about going out for rugby... The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 01:45 AM My school has rugby... i now nothing about it other that what i see on TV. Any ideas? The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 01:48 AM (Gman and Seldom this post id for you guys to talk to me about rugby btw) seldomTap 04-06-2004, 01:51 AM I think it would be a good idea for you Bear... With your size you would easily slot into the forwards (which will be explained to you by your coach and what not) and having played football before, you won't be too hammered by the contact or anything. There is some technical stuff you will have to learn and there aren't as many stoppages as in American football, but you would adapt pretty quick I think. The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 01:53 AM how about running? i will need to run a grip huh? You think past knee trouble will get the better of me? seldomTap 04-06-2004, 01:54 AM and I think your coach would cream in his pants with a guy your size coming out to play...big guys who are mobile are a rare commodity The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 01:56 AM 6'3" 310 right now. I am pretty out of shape right now. But only 2 years off football. I bet i can get back into the swing after awhile. seldomTap 04-06-2004, 01:57 AM You may well need to run a bit, but that kind of depends on your coaching staff. My club coach for instance doesn't make us run any further than about 400 yds at a time (decent pace though) and we do no road runningor anything like that. we have less leg injuries and are fresher that way. If your knee stands up to BJJ, it should be ok for rugby. Do you squat in the gym at all? If so, then you are sure to have minimal issues seldomTap 04-06-2004, 01:58 AM At that size, you could end up in next World Cup! The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 02:03 AM There are 2 clubs in my city. One club is the US Champ. But i better just start at the local school team. Fallout 04-06-2004, 02:04 AM I loved playing rugby. I remember the year football was canceled an all the linemen went out to play rugby. It was the only rugby championship our school ever won, and the rugby coach was so upset when we had enough people for a football team the next year seldomTap 04-06-2004, 02:06 AM May not be a bad idea ot go to the bigger club...the coaching would be better and a winning atmosphere is a good thing to be around. You may start in a lower grade, but your improvement will be greater.. or you could move to Australia...man we need some big guys in my team right now. I am 6'1" and around 250 and am probably our biggest at the moment The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 02:08 AM haha can i live at your pad man? Fallout 04-06-2004, 02:11 AM Global MMA roadtrip 2 seldomTap 04-06-2004, 02:13 AM Hell yeah...I will buy a bigger fridge first, but it should be sweet... The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 02:14 AM hahaha Fallout 04-06-2004, 02:15 AM You don't need a fridge, we will survive on fast food and gatoraid. Thats what we lived on in california. By the time we left on the thursday, I felt really bad because Tony's house was covered in pissed, water, puke and garbage. Then he said its normaly that way anyway and I didn't feel so bad seldomTap 04-06-2004, 02:19 AM Well I do have a subway and a McDonalds close by...plus an excellent BBQ chicken place that I am sure would be frequented...fridge would basically be for beer Fallout 04-06-2004, 02:20 AM stock vodka and lime juice. Thats all I really drink anymore. Oh, and if Ensanity or G-man comes, your going to need a hose and some new fruniture The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 02:24 AM hahahah puke sucks seldomTap 04-06-2004, 02:24 AM It is ok, I have concrete floors and plastic on all my furniture The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 02:26 AM how often does you culb practice Seldom? seldomTap 04-06-2004, 02:42 AM twice a week. Tuesday and thursday nights...some sundays in summer also. Play on saturdays. Prince 04-06-2004, 02:43 AM theres nor eason to do that im using my knee as an excuse to quti bjj permanently GhosT^x0 04-06-2004, 10:35 AM You'd ****ing kill someone. handjobs4dollars 04-06-2004, 02:00 PM Bear is big and tall he would fit very nicely into the scrum. I have my college rugby camp coming up for the next season at the end of april and I started running already. Cardio means alot more in rugby then being strong if you ask me. They're starting a pro league in canada too. Three more years and I think I would like to try out. Out of college. The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 08:05 PM so running is important. seldomTap 04-06-2004, 09:08 PM Important, but yuou don't need to be doing 4 minute miles or anything like that. A game is 80 minutes long, a lot of that time you are on the move, but once you learn short cuts and how to manage yourself ont he field, it is pretty easy to get through without killing yourself running. handjobs4dollars 04-06-2004, 10:58 PM Sometimes those breaks for line out save my life. But if your lifting they suck ass. The Golden Bear 04-06-2004, 11:00 PM Originally posted by Gman Sometimes those breaks for line out save my life. But if your lifting they suck ass. explain handjobs4dollars 04-06-2004, 11:08 PM Read the rules's of the game. It's like a throw in, in soccer. seldomTap 04-07-2004, 12:17 AM Hard to explain a lot of the game Blake...is far better to go watch a game or train a bit with a club...you will learn quicker handjobs4dollars 04-07-2004, 12:22 AM We should tell him how to hang out at the club afterwards as well. seldomTap 04-07-2004, 12:31 AM Hahaha...I think that will come naturally handjobs4dollars 04-07-2004, 12:35 AM Some of the best times ever. I never get tried of singing. The Golden Bear 04-09-2004, 04:24 PM i dont thi k we sing here in the states. handjobs4dollars 04-09-2004, 11:01 PM Oh my god not singing is a crime. The looks on peoples faces when you sing in a bar are the best. The Golden Bear 04-10-2004, 06:38 AM well, here in the STATES OF FREEDOM we just get down and dirty with the booze, while all the hoes "down the boot" with you favortie lite beer. Fallout 04-10-2004, 10:19 AM Originally posted by The Golden Bear well, here in the STATES OF FREEDOM we just get down and dirty with the booze, while all the hoes "down the boot" with you favortie lite beer. A team drink a long is always great. Our football team used to do it during our team meal |
