I see him in Canastota every year. Physically he seems to be in great health (he also has a drop dead GORGEOUS wife). Mentally, he seems a bit slow (though he isn't all that talkative.) but he seems allright.

Terry Norris was a great fighter with one of the worst chins I've ever seen. He is punchy now and living the good life with plenty of money.

"Don King is a cancer in the sport of boxing! Today's settlement provided boxing with a dose of chemotherapy." --- Judd Burstein, Terry Norris Lawyer, after King agreed to pay Norris $7.5 million, December 2003. The out-of-court settlement resulted from a case filed by Norris against King and former manager Joe Sayatovitch for breach of duties, alledging that the duo made side deals and paid Norris less than his contracted minimum purse. King reportedly settled after THE JURY ASKED THE JUDGE FOR A CALCULATOR!!!:D ;)

he was a dirty fighter too. Was Dq in 2 fights in a row with a guy he was clearly better than. However he hit after the bell and he hit the guy behind the head like right after G man was severly hurt from hitting behind the head from Nigel Benn. So Terry was Dirty. Also lots of people didnt like that he beat Sugar Ray up so bad. He really shouldnt have taken that fight. I mean gosh he beat up a OLD wore out Sugar Ray. Other than that an ordinary fighter named Simon Brown KOed him in 3 rounds i think. Dont get me wrong he was a great front runner. He was great in the first 3-5 rounds then he would dance or get out hustled. He had poor managment too.

He probably thought he wasn't that good to compete with the pros. If your scared to a point that you don't turn pro because your scared of brain damage or other then he made the right choice for himself, cause he has no busniess in boxing if he ain't confident in his ability. In football you can get concusions(sp) almost the same as a ko.

I didn't even know about that. That right their is a huge victory im sure not only celebrated by Norris but former King clients.

Terry Norris was a baddass, he had that shaky chin, but he had power and had good skils when he wanted to use them. He lost to Brown by ko, but in the rematch clearly outboxed Brown, that was a master piece. And Brown himself was brutally ko'd by Vince Pettway. If you stay in boxing their is a great chance you may get ko'd, its almost a guarente that at least one time in your life you will get knocked down. You get knocked down, you get hurt, you bleed, if you can, you get up, fight on and win...

Yea he,s got some damage to the brain but the person that exposed his chin was the hawk julian jackson , he caught terry with the most crushing shot that short circuited his whole body ... so he began to box and move around the ring from then on until he fought simon brown thinking he could walk through him and got stopped... that jab simon hit him with was on the same side that the hawk caught him with that big right punch... oh well he was still a great fighter, good luck terry...

i consider myself to be somewhat of a terry expert and i can assure you that terry is not as punchy as people would make him out to be...he has a very good memory and yes it is difficult to understand him at times but i'm not sure if that's necessarily caused by brain damage...i believe terry is in excellent shape both physically and mentally

Terry Norris was a very good fighter. Good handspeed & great technical skill. I wish he could've had the chance to fight Tito or DLH. I remember at one time he was supposed to fight on or both of them at one point.

Norris is arguably the best 154lb fighter of all time.

terry norris was a very good fighter although he was chinny and very dirty.

it is sad that he is slurring with his speech as people who have met him have told me that he is a very nice man, despite the fact that inside the ring he looked even more sadistic than the average fighter.

Terry Norris is a good man who is in fact "punchy" He was a great fighter who if he had a chin, could have been an all-time great.

Oh my god... I just watched the Julian Jackson KO or Terry Norris. That is ****ing crazy...

EDIT: How in god's name did he never get KO of the year (except for on the receiving side from McClellan)?

Styles for fighters and horses for races. Don't kid yourself, Terry Norris would have faired well against any fighter in all of boxing history between 145-155 pounds. In any expert analysis, Norris will never be remembered for the handfull of fights he lost, or the miniscule number of fights he was knocked out in. He will be, and is (by the Boxing writers and ring insiders who actually know what they're talking about) remembered as one of the most gifted fighters to ever enter the ring in the lower weight classes. The suspect chin, the fouls, the strange disqualifications bordering on the surreal...all secondary and over-inflated incidents...minor flaws barely worthy of mention in comparison to the supreme artistry and uniqueness in the sum of the overall picture being critiqued.
Based solely on the incredible, multiple-punch power combinations he put together with devastating effect, Norris deserves inclusion in some pretty elite company. Norris didn't just beat up guys, he destroyed them. Great fighters end other fighter's careers, and he stopped some pretty reputable fighters convincingly. Leonard, Mugabi,Taylor, Curry,Brown...all former champions considered to be dynamos at one point or another in their own careers, and all dominated in the end by Norris. Granted, all the afore mentioned were past their prime when they crossed paths with Norris, but all five were also under the age of 30: not exactly ancient by historical standards. All five were also convinced they could "get to " Norris's supposedly weak chin...a popular slight while he was putting together his wins one after another. And what of the fighters that flat out dodged Norris? Pernell Whitaker, for one prime example, didn't want anywhere near Norris during his streak of victories as a champion, whether he had been knocked out by Julian Jackson or Simon Brown or not. Why? Because Norris was seriously dangerous. When all is said and done, his true weakness wasn't neccesarily a weak chin, but a weakness in restraint and an over-willingness to trade bombs. If you're going to hold that against a fighter, you can throw out Sugar Ray Robinson as well. In the case of fighters like Robinson, or Hearns, or Norris, one must consider them by the sheer brilliance they exhibited at the height of their ability, not demean them by the low points which were few and far between.

Terry Norris was acctually in line to fight Delahoya, but got knocked out by over-achiever Keith Mullings, he got another shot at a title against Laurent Boudouani. He was already badly faded by then, he's pretty punchy its quite sad.

P.S Another fighter who is really punchy is Antonio Diaz(brother of Julio), I saw him about 8 months ago at a restuarant. It was pretty sad to hear him talk

I didn't see it in the thread but it was asked what Norris record was:

47-9-0 31KO

I think his last fight was against Keith Mullings or Laurent Boudouani? I'm not 100% certain on that but I remember being shocked when he lost to Mullings.

Terry had such confidence he reminded me of James Toney in how fantastically arrogant he was, and I would have picked him to beat Trinidad if they fought but not DeLaHoya <shrug<. Would've been a great pair of fights though :)

I was acctually Rooting for Mullings, it was a cinderella man moment.

Last fight was against the Frenchman.

I thought it was such a sure thing I didn't even watch it =\ I should've learned my lesson when my buddies and I agreed to all go build furniture forts in the basement instead of watching Tyson and Douglas because "You know who's gonna win this!!"...but I digress, great moment for Mullings lol, still was quite a surprise.
