CABBAGE CORREIRA TO FIGHT ANDREI ARLOVSKI; WES SIMS TO
MEET MIKE KYLE IN CARD CHANGES FOR UFC 47: IT¡¦S ON!
Test Results Reveal Former Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia Has
Trace Amounts Of Performance Enhancing Substance In System
LAS VEGAS, NEV., April 1, 2004¡K.¡¨Cabbage¡¨ Correira will fight Andrei Arlovski in a three-round, non-title fight and Wes Sims will take Correira¡¦s place against Mike Kyle in heavyweight card changes announced today by Zuffa, LLC for Ultimate Fighting Championship 47: It¡¦s On! , which will air LIVE on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EST, Friday, April 2.
The card changes became necessary when a urinalysis test for former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia today revealed he still has miniscule traces of a performance enhancing substance in his system. Under the terms of his prior suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Sylvia cannot obtain a license in Nevada until all traces of the substance are gone from his system. The trace amounts found in his system go back to his first and only use of the agents taken over nine months ago. Because the NSAC had ordered Sylvia to provide satisfactory results before fighting again, he had requested that he be given until the last possible opportunity to obtain accurate test results.
¡§Tim was honest and forthcoming in admitting his initial use of the agent and we have complete confidence that he did not violate his suspension. Since he was returning to attempt to re-gain his heavyweight title, Zuffa and the Commission wanted to give him every opportunity to do so. Determining a champion in our heavyweight division remains a top priority,¡¨ said Dana White, UFC president.
¡§Cabbage¡¨ (20-4-0 in mixed martial arts) from Hilo, Hawaii, will now pit his rock-hard chin, powerful strikes and quick knees against Arlovski¡¦s (7-3-0) from Minsk, Belarus, striking power and grappling ability. Both are coming off knockouts in their last UFC fights. Arlovski defeated fellow countryman Vladimir Matyushenko with a wicked uppercut at the 2:14 mark of the first round at UFC 44: Undisputed. ¡§Cabbage¡¨ defeated legendary heavyweight Tank Abbott with strikes and knees also at the 2:14 mark of round one at UFC 45: Revolution.
Kyle (10-2-0) from San Jose, Calif., also is a powerful striker who is improving his jiu jitsu skills. He will need all his technique against Sims (6-3-0) from Columbus, Ohio, who at 6¡¦10,¡¨ 250 pounds is one of the UFC¡¦s biggest heavyweights.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship brand of mixed martial arts is the world¡¦s premier series of MMA events. Fallout 04-02-2004, 12:12 AM Ok everyone, here is the deal
Tim didn't fail a drug test. He just hasn't gotten off it out of his system since his last positive test.
He can't fight because he doesn't have a licence, not because he is using roids again

Yes he failed, if he didn't fail he would be fighting
Curly Howard 04-02-2004, 06:45 AM Amidst a swell of rumors that have clouded one of the most inopportune periods in UFC history, promoter Zuffa Sports Entertainment was required to alter its fight card on the eve of UFC 47, when heavyweight title contender Tim Sylvia failed medical requirements for licensing under the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Specifically, a test taken two days ago by Sylvia for anabolic steroids came back positive just this afternoon, making him ineligible for tomorrow night's main event showdown between fellow fighter Andrei Arlovski for the now vacant UFC title.
Stemming from an initial test Sylvia was required to submit to on or around March 4th as part as his pre-fight medical history, the Miletich Martial Arts fighter was found to have a minute amount of 66 nanograms of a forbidden agent in his body. NSAC guidelines require a competitor's reading to be under the 30 nanogram mark. At this time, it is believed the trace amounts found were lingering from Sylvia's initial outing with the illegal substance stanozolol metabolite some nine months ago. Following his first round KO win of Gan McGee at September 26th's UFC 44, tests conducted by the NSAC first alerted the UFC to the Sylvia's infraction with the illegal substance. Sylvia publicly admitted to the wrongdoing in a public statement released on October 7th. On October 15th, Sylvia stood before the NSAC for rendering on his case. Sylvia then renounced his heavyweight title before the Commission could hand down their verdict, which suspended him from competition for four months and fined the fighter $7,500 from his $60,000 purse.
In response to Sylvia's voluntary abdication of the title, the UFC assured the fighter that he would get first crack at the title once his suspension was completed. When his March 4th testing came back positive once again, the UFC chose to give Sylvia another chance to provide a clean bill of health before this April 2nd event, waiting till the last possible moment for this final testing in the hopes that the remaining traces would diminish. Unfortunately, they did not.
Faced with the dilemma that Sylvia might not be eligible some three weeks ago, the UFC drafted a contingency plan that they managed to keep hush-hush for almost two weeks, until information started to leak onto the Internet that something might be a amiss. As part of the new roster, Wesley "Cabbage" Correira will move up the card to replace Sylvia. He will face Belarussian Arlovski in a non-title bout. According to various accounts, both Corriera and Arlovski's camp were notified ahead of time by Zuffa regarding the potential changes. Wes Sims has also been enlisted to fill Corriera's slot, and will face AKA's Mike Kyle. According to Sims' camp, the fighter was put on stand-by for the fight some twelve days ago, but did not know he would be physically summoned to Las Vegas until two days ago. It is unclear when Kyle was notified of his change in opponents
