View Full Version : My health
GhosT^x0 04-01-2004, 05:32 PM I'm sure some of you heard about this a couple weeks back, about when I collapsed at work...
Well, they ran all kinds of cardiology tests and blood tests and ****, had me wearing this heart monitor for a day... turns out the problem isn't anything regarding my heart or my blood, and that the problem may actually be neurological.
As in... brain. As in... head.
And when my doctor heard I wanted to fight in June... he about laughed his ass off.
Now awaiting my appointment for an EEG and MRI, both of which I have no insurance for, and both of which I cannot afford, but will need to do in order to get doc's clearance to fight.
Shorthand- version: :(
If I can't fight.... fuuuuck... last thing I need right now.
Bluecifer 04-01-2004, 05:40 PM Sorry to hear that bro. I hope your noggin' checks out fine, and kickin' faces again soon.
Lei Tong 04-01-2004, 05:42 PM Yeah, having no insurance is no fun, although I imagine that's the last thing on your thoughts.
Hope **** checks out.
seldomTap 04-01-2004, 05:52 PM Head injuries aren't any fun...but what you should keep in mind Dave is that while one doctor may not clear you, he by all chances is taking the ultra conservative 'scared of getting his ass sued for malpractice' approach. There will always be a Dr who will give a bit more latitude and realise that you do what you do and do it well, so will more than likely clear you. Depending on the head injury I guess, but put it this way...
I once got KO'd playing rugby pretty bad. Loss of consciousness for a few seconds but walked off assisted. Saw a regular Dr on the monday, he wanted me to have 4 weeks off and to basically wrap myself in cotton wool. I got a second opinion, who suggested a week off contact work, but back playing in 12 days.
I went with the second guy and had no ill effects.
Second opinions are what our grandparents fought and died for in wars....use them
GhosT^x0 04-01-2004, 06:22 PM hahahaha... good show, ST.
I'm trying hard not to think negatively on this, but truth is, so much is going on in my life right now... I do not believe I have any kind of neurological injuries due to blunt force trauma or anything... I've always been exceptional in any sports that might potentially endanger my head, so I do not believe this was "caused" by anything, other than maybe stress.
As far as the extent of the neurological hypothesis... the doctors looked at my blood and heart and saw nothing wrong, not even hypoglycemia. Actually, they never want to hear me say the word hypoglycemia again. If stress can induce a seizure, it would make sense to me because of everything I've been going through lately (me and Jarrod spoke about it last night)... but indeed, that's what the doctor's believe happened.
seldomTap 04-01-2004, 06:36 PM Stress is a pretty powerful problem...I am pretty sure it could cause a seizure. If that is the case, then I would be surprised if anyone suggested that you shouldn't fight or train as I was always of the opinion that exercise was encouraged as one fo the best ways to deal with stress?!?
I would think the Dr is being very careful still though and I honestly don't blame the guy, but like you said, your in pretty decent shape otherwise, just a lot of **** going on right now...happens to the best of us bro
nance 04-02-2004, 03:55 PM I agree with SeldomTap...second opinions are awesome. I've searched them out before and was grateful that I did.....with my son. I've even gotten third opinions before. It pays off. Just remember that any tests, xrays, MRIs, etc that you have done and pay for yourself or with insurance, BELONG to YOU! Don't let any medical establishment tell you otherwise. You have the right to take them to another doctor.
Good Luck....you're in my prayers.
Wushu 04-02-2004, 04:07 PM I don't agree with a 2nd opinion in this case. I know Dave's a fighter and that's what he does, but is it worth risking your health, **** your life for that matter. You're a young guy Dave, you have a lot of time to fight bro. Why do you guys think when a guy is KO'd, he has to take a 90 day rest. All I'm saying is, take care of yourself man.
GhosT^x0 04-02-2004, 05:06 PM You know it bro.. lots more to consider than my ability to just get in the ring and beat the **** outta someone.
Too much going on right now to even get into on a net board...
@#$$@#!$#@!.
