ok well over the summer every year i do a lot of running and stuff but when its cold outside i tend to not get out and run as much. What i was wondering is, what is your all's opinion on riding a exercise bike vs. running.
I really only ride it in the winter and I was wondering what you all think about exercise bikes. How much less does it help you than running? Is it actually better?
any helpful input would be great
thanks

I just did V02 max test using a bike and it definitely will fatigue your legs, but use it not as sole conditioning but as part of a whole program to help with your overall coniditioning aspects, if you get what I mean?

I find the bike is better for warming up before training and sparring and cooling down after than actually using it as main cardio.

I perfer to bike ride because it dosen't leave my knees sore like running does. So I can workout every day instead of having to take a day or two off because of soreness.

I tend to prefer running than biking to be honest.

I ride my bike to the gym, uphills are killer workouts, I donīt feel as much benefit from static bikes. I think running is better for boxing though because the movement is more limited in cycling and running or skipping is more like movement in the ring than cycling.

I think running is the more beneficial one for cardio. I do 25 minute hill climbs on a stationary bike with pretty high settings a few times per week at 100+ rpm the whole way, and foolishly thought that my cardio would improve if I did that in place of running due to the weather. When I went for a run the other day it was pretty bad... I got winded a lot faster than normal.
So while the bike is good for your legs and a bit of cardio, I think you have to run to really get the full cardio effect.

I cycle a lot and although it shouldn't be a main cardio it is really good exercise, however here your talking about static bikes not road/mountain biking. Static bikes imo don't really give a good exercise because your to limited in your movement.....I'd suggest using is for a little warming up but running is really much better
