View Full Version : Peterson Verdict Reached
Rick Reeno 11-12-2004, 03:08 PM REDWOOD CITY, California (CNN) -- The jury in the Scott Peterson double murder trial has reached a verdict, which is expected to be announced later today.
Peterson, 32, is accused of killing his 27-year-old wife Laci, and their unborn child, who was to be named Conner. Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared on or about Christmas Eve of 2002.
The verdict was expected to be read at 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET).
Jurors had resumed deliberations Friday morning after taking a day off for the Veterans Day holiday.
The jury started deliberations over again, after two jurors were dismissed in the two days preceding the holiday. The new panel deliberated for just a few hours Wednesday before recessing and only hours on Friday morning.
On Tuesday, Judge Alfred Delucchi had dismissed juror No. 7, a woman who reportedly did her own research on the case. On Wednesday, the judge dismissed juror No. 5, a doctor and lawyer who was the panel's foreman. The reason for his dismissal was not given.
Juror No. 6, a firefighter, is the new foreman.
Prosecutors contend Peterson, 32, dumped his wife's body, weighted down with homemade cement anchors, in San Francisco Bay.
Her body, and that of the fetus, washed ashore in April 2003, near the place Peterson said he had launched his boat during a fishing trip on Christmas Eve.
If convicted of first-degree murder, to which he has pleaded not guilty, Peterson could be sentenced to death.
Jurors have the option of convicting Peterson on the lesser charge of second-degree murder if they decide the slaying was not premeditated. A conviction on that charge could mean a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
Explosivo 11-12-2004, 03:16 PM Nice Rick. Thanks for starting this thread. I thought I might get some **** if I did it. :D
I think hes going to get off since they came to a verdict so quickly after replacing 2 jurors.
Rick Reeno 11-12-2004, 03:47 PM I think he will get off based upon the fact there is no physical evidence and there is no clear motive.
Explosivo 11-12-2004, 03:51 PM Right. Besides the fact that she washed up on the beach where he was 'fishing' they really dont have much on him.
Explosivo 11-12-2004, 04:04 PM Now that I think about it, I think they may convict him on second degree.

...found guilty in the first degree
Explosivo 11-12-2004, 04:20 PM ...found guilty in the first degree
And second on the baby, with special circumstance = death penalty!
Rick Reeno 11-12-2004, 04:21 PM REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - Scott Peterson was convicted Friday of murdering his pregnant wife and dumping her body in San Francisco Bay in what prosecutors in the made-for-cable-TV case portrayed as a cold-blooded attempt to escape marriage and fatherhood for the bachelor life.
oldgringo 11-12-2004, 04:28 PM I hope he has a long time to think about how he is some of the worst scum on earth. If he in fact did this (I'm sure he did many women are assaulted or killed by their partners/spouses) he deserves to rot in jail. How in the hell do you kill a woman and a baby?

....I thought the evidence was weak, but my gut tells me he did it. I didn't think he would get convicted based on the evidence.
Nick54 11-12-2004, 04:32 PM Guilty!!!!!
oldgringo 11-12-2004, 04:32 PM For awhile I thought that they might have a hung jury or whatnot.
oldgringo 11-12-2004, 04:33 PM Nick this has always bothered me...who are the dudes in your avatar?
FibreOptic 11-12-2004, 04:52 PM I think he will get off based upon the fact there is no physical evidence and there is no clear motive.
He did have a mistress.
Explosivo 11-12-2004, 05:01 PM He did have a mistress.
Yea, but that doesnt mean he killed his wife.
FibreOptic 11-12-2004, 05:10 PM Yea, but that doesnt mean he killed his wife.
Yes, that is circumstantial, but it does not look good. He also took a sudden interest in fishing and purchased a boat a few weeks before Laci's disappearance. That does not look good either.

Oh yea, he totally did it. I didnt think that they had enough evidence to convict him of the 1st degree. For that you have to show premeditation and I didnt see it. Maybe the jury got it from his phone call to Amber Frey telling her his wife is dead. He did a lot of **** that made him lookk terrible. I think this verdict came more out of the prosecution convincing the jury to hate this guy more than the actual evidence against him. But like you said there were lots of circumstantial stuff that pointed to him being the killer that couldnt be denied.

Well, I'm not Nick, but that's the band "Sevendust" and they kick ass, by the way! :)
On the topic, thank GOD they found him guilty and we didnt see another OJ type ending! ;)

You are right on the money in my opinion, the guy IS a SCUMBAG, but the evidence was completely circumstancial...

Well I consider it very "lucky" that they found him guilty then! It's one thing to kill your woman (and it's a bad thing, yes) but to kill an unborn child?? :( That's terrible!

well, I've been posting a little each day; there's been so much negative posting here lately compared to the mo's I've been a member that I've tried to stay away, or stick to boxing as much as possible ;)
I will check out that thread now (if I can find it) and let you know what I think.

Aint that the truth! And he wasnt a famous ex-football player either. :D

Oh I found it (and replied) very good stuff! Keep us in the loop, ok? ;)
jack_the_rippuh 11-12-2004, 07:12 PM Well...too bad for him now. I thought he was innocent.
Dr.Depravity 11-13-2004, 12:42 AM Circumstantial or not, all signs pointed to that piece of ****. Thats what you have to go off of. "Reason of a doubt" is the bottom line. There have been convictions for murder w/o ever finding the body of the victim. ;)
TheFairPole 11-13-2004, 07:15 AM I didn't really follow the trial but my dad said the same as all of you... He said they didn't have the evidence but he(my dad) still thought he did it!
Nick54 11-13-2004, 11:52 AM Well, I'm not Nick, but that's the band "Sevendust" and they kick ass, by the way! :)

I like you more and more everyday. :D
SEVENDUST KICKS SO MUCH ASS!!!!!!!!
Nick54 11-13-2004, 11:58 AM I think they had plenty of circumstantial(sp) evidence to convict him.
There's this pundit on fox news that said this shouldnt even have gone to trial because it was never proved that Laci was really murdered. I was like 'WHAT THE ****?'. If someones decapitated body washed up on shore. my first thoughts are not gonna be "wow, an 8 and 1/2 month pregnant women went swimming and a shark bit off only her head." Of course she was murdered!!!
I'm glad he got convicted.

Right back at ya Nick ;)
"*****" is still my favorite but I like Denial, Pray, etc....pretty much everything they've put out so far :)
Winter 11-13-2004, 02:31 PM If he truly did it, he deserves to be found guilty. It looks like he did it. Even if he is innocent, I think he would not mind being in jail his entire life, because it probably would be difficult for him to live anyway without his wife and child with him.

I dont know...the defense made it look like the reason he killed her was because living with a wife and child would be too difficult. It seem's he wanted his 'bachelor' days back or something, I really dont know.
SonnyG8R 11-13-2004, 02:39 PM I haven't followed the case closely but if he did it, the death penalty isn't punishment enough.

jack_the_rippuh 11-14-2004, 09:44 PM I don't think he's guilty because the glove didn't fit...
