View Full Version : carlos monzon is the worst looking so-called legendary fighter.....
billionaire 03-04-2009, 07:23 PM i finally saw video him yesterday.....holy **** he looked terrible......reminded me of carlos baldomir and im not saying that because theyre from the same place......he was really slow, he pushed his punches into people, he was offbalance throwing alot of shots without his weight behind it....im astonished....you cant argue his excellent record, i wonder if the argentino atmosphere had at least a partial effect on his performances...
andrewcuff 03-04-2009, 07:39 PM Nah the dude was good, not as legendary as Hagler at 160 though.

Angelo dundde called him one of the most complete fighters he ever seen, he was a great counter puncher and thinker, he didnt always look great on the eyes to everyone, but he beat 4 or 5 hall of famers and was once considerd the best fighter on the planet, when ring magazine done there 80 greatest fighters of the last 80 years they had monzon number ten, thats how good he was. The best midlleweight of all time followed by greb, hagler and la motta
Dan... 03-04-2009, 11:00 PM LOL. Yeah dude, sure, Monzon sucked. Absolutely terrible.
Proud American 03-04-2009, 11:19 PM You know you will get banned if you say anything about a hispanic, latino or asian fighter right? You have to praise them and say they are better than americans or you will get in deep trouble. Monzon did suck, So does De La Hoya, Manny Pac ect ect ect.
Aztec Wanker 03-04-2009, 11:21 PM I've seen worser looking fighters that are held in higher regards than Carlos.

What exactly do you mean when you say 'off balance', 'pushed his punches', 'slow' etc? He had near perfect technique, unless you prefer Margarito or something....:dunno:
He had very good defense, perfectly timed punches, good counter puncher, a fantastic jab and a very hard, sneaky right hand, he actually had very good balance and all around was just a great fighter.
Maybe you need to watch a bit more of him or something. What fight did you see him in? Who was it against?
He was definitely no hack though as you seem to be suggesting. He was a brilliantly versatile fighter, and it showed in his fighting. He beat every kind of fighter you could imagine, from great fast boxers with a lot of movement, quick, powerful boxer/punchers with great skills to rough, tough pressure fighters that packed a huge punch. He beat them all.

it's true: latinos, and asians are better currently than AMERICANS.
black.ink 03-07-2009, 02:07 PM I know i might get some flak for this, but in my opinion, prime Monzon beats a prime Hagler.

Carlos Monzon was a legendary fighter who fought exactly like a tall fighter should. He had a great left jab that kept his opponents at bay and his right cross was just as great. he ko'd Benvenuti twice, defeated Rodrigo Valdes and Emile Griffith twice and defeated Bennie Briscoe. Monzon was no worse than the third greatest Middleweight of all time. Watch his fights against Benvenuti and Griffith and you will see just how great he was
MarkScott 03-07-2009, 08:44 PM Monzon looked awkward but he was very accurate and hit hard. Also, he rarely got hit with a clean shot.
ferocity 03-08-2009, 12:45 AM Monzoon would of beat any middleweight today and some even say he'd beat Hagler. I've only seen his fight with Napoles, and from what i see he knew how to fight didn't always look good in there but he know distance, accurace, etc. He reminded me of Hopkins, though i found his fight to be entertaining.
