View Full Version : Jirov vs Toney= greatest cruiserweight fight ever?
KostyaTszyu44 03-01-2009, 03:08 AM i think so, i absolutely love that fight, one of my favourites, the way james hung in there, didnt lose his cool against the relentless jirov and then dropped him in last round to seal the win, boxing at its best IMO
so is it the greatest cruiserweight fight ever? i certainly think so
MANGLER 03-01-2009, 03:14 AM It's up there. Not sure it's the best tho.
warp1432 03-01-2009, 03:25 AM I liked Qawi-Holyfield 1 a little more. It didn't have the drama Toney-Jirov did, but I thought action wise it was better.
Shiranui 03-01-2009, 03:29 AM It's my personal favorite, but many seem to favor Qawi-Holyfield.
KostyaTszyu44 03-01-2009, 03:36 AM hmm i actually havent seen qawi-holyfield, ill watch it and get back to you guys

It's the best I ever saw, followed closely by Holyfield-Qawi I, Adamek-Cunningham, and the two Carl Thompson-Chris Eubank fights as the greatest fight in the history of the division.
Reggie Miller 03-01-2009, 11:20 AM Qawi-Holyfield I

I was ringside for this fight and loved every second of it!!
That said, I would still favor the first Holyfield-Qawi fight. Both were wars though that I can watch over and over.
nomercy90 03-02-2009, 02:03 AM Holyfield-Qawi is most likely my favorite cruiser fight, but there are many others including Toney-Jirov I rank almost as high.
The cruiserweight divison seems to produce many entertaining and exciting fights. At 200lbs the fighters have great power and still have the mobility and stamina to fight at a faster pace than most of todays oversized heavyweights.
TheGreatA 03-02-2009, 02:41 AM Lee Roy Murphy vs Chisanda Mutti is a good candidate as well:

Davros? 03-02-2009, 05:00 AM Qawi vs Holyfield, Mormeck vs Braithwaite, Mormeck vs Bell 1 and 2, Mormeck vs Haye, Haye vs Fragomeni, Adamek vs Cunningham are all great crusierweight fights 2.
Silencers 03-02-2009, 10:03 AM I personally prefer Holyfield-Qawi 1.
phallus 03-02-2009, 07:08 PM i'd say jirov - toney is may favorite cruiser fight, not sure it's the best

Hands down Kostya! I've watched this fight over and over and never get sick of it. The amount of postponements Jirov caused to try and put Toney off his game especially the way Toney battered Robinson in eliminator really made it worth the wait.
Smoger didn't have to break them up once during the fight which is a great indicator. The amount of punches these two threw not even Lightwiehgts throw. One of the best fights ever and Toney's knockdown of Jirov in final seconds and Manny going crazy are the highlights of a superb Title fight.

by far the best I ever saw!
joe strong 03-02-2009, 09:03 PM that was a great fight too! I've been watching every Holyfield fight the last few days on my time off.I don't even think that was his best fight(maybe at cw).toney/ jirov was my favorite.Cunningham/adamek was great as well.
MikeBrew328 03-02-2009, 10:19 PM I like Toney-Jirov but lately my opinion on fighting has changed. I've started to realize that it is much easier to be a defensive fighter like Toney...he doesn't create his own offense, he just sits there and waits for a counter..it might be effective but I respect Jirov more for making the fight happen. Without Jirov there would be no fight really
