Margarito with plaster Bigdaddy_Vh 02-24-2009, 07:25 PM Ray Robinson as a welter has/had no equal...hands down sugarshanenas 02-25-2009, 12:47 AM Ray Robinson obviously But just to change it up I voted other for Hearns...On his BEST night i think he would give robinson hell wmute 02-25-2009, 01:30 AM Robinson, then Leonard I have my doubts that Armstrong, Mayweather and maybe even Whitaker should be on that list. Too small. I would throw in Napoles, Griffith and maybe Hearns... Jim Jeffries 02-25-2009, 02:06 AM Ray Robinson obviously But just to change it up I voted other for Hearns...On his BEST night i think he would give robinson hell No kidding, where in the hell is Hearns on that list. And Armstrong? Great fighter, but no so much at WW. Duran deserves a spot as well, ahead of Mayweather, that's for sure. F l i c k e r 02-25-2009, 04:16 AM As much as I like leonard and PBF. Robinson honestly has no competition. The first person I thought about when seeing the title of the thread, I thought of Hearns. F l i c k e r jab baby. I still think robinson would dominate though. KostyaTszyu44 02-25-2009, 04:17 AM leonard, robinson and hearns IMO and the duran that fought leonard in their first fight them_apples 02-26-2009, 02:38 AM At Welterweight Robinson is just a monster, 6'1 tough as nails, good power and speed to. Robinson vs Leonard would be great. JAB5239 02-26-2009, 02:54 AM At Welterweight Robinson is just a monster, 6'1 tough as nails, good power and speed to. Robinson vs Leonard would be great. Robinson was 5"11', but I agree him and Leonard would have been a great fight that could go either way. Infern0 02-26-2009, 02:57 AM I voted for Robinson, but man all of them on that list are awesome fighters them_apples 02-26-2009, 03:04 AM Robinson was 5"11', but I agree him and Leonard would have been a great fight that could go either way. really? my bad, always though he was 6'1. For some reason. But yea, hell of a fight. JAB5239 02-26-2009, 03:06 AM I voted for Robinson, but man all of them on that list are awesome fighters P4p all are awesome fighters. At 147 I think both Sugars are head and shoulders above the rest. Jmo. JAB5239 02-26-2009, 03:10 AM really? my bad, always though he was 6'1. For some reason. But yea, hell of a fight. Its all good. I'd like to lean towards Leonard in this fight, but its more a feeling than anything I think could be argued with concrete proof. Both weree fast and hit hard. Both elusive and fought great comp. This is like the dream match. sleazyfellow 02-26-2009, 09:39 AM Lenord had good power until he injured them on numerous occasions, if you hear how he was like in the amatuers it seems he didnt have that kind of power later in the career. Robsinson would rule them all of course, best fighter in history so far. poet682006 02-26-2009, 12:25 PM Someone had mentioned a Robinson Vs. Hearns matchup. I think it's compelling but only if Tommy doesn't try and play the "Hit Man" and go after Robinson: Fighters who tried that sort of thing on Ray got destroyed. If Hearns uses his jab and moves like he was capable of then things get interesting. With a significant reach advantage and a superior jab when he wanted to use it Hearns could give Robinson fits for much of the fight, sufficiently so to make the outcome very much in doubt if it made it to the cards. My bet in this scenerio is Ray catches Tommy late in similar fashion to the way Leonard did, probably after bringing Hearns' guard down with body punches. Poet Roberto1096 02-27-2009, 04:57 PM Sugar Ray Robinson. He is the one. forget about the other ones Gift of Gab 02-27-2009, 05:12 PM I got Leonard. I'm one of those that think that he can beat SRR, sue me. Here's another post of mine concerning the same topic: As much as I dislike him, my vote goes for Sugar Ray Leonard. Although I would say Hearns is a close second. People say crappy chin this crappy chin that, but the fact of the matter is that he only lost twice in his prime: To Leonard, a boxer much faster than him and to Hagler, a boxer much stronger than him. He beat everybody else in his prime. K-DOGG 02-27-2009, 05:43 PM Mr. Sugar Ray Robinson....NEVER LOST....NEVER at welterweight. He'd beat anyone before or since his reign. BennyST 02-28-2009, 04:48 AM Well, it's obviously Robinson. He fought in a time of stunning welter competition and beat everyone. Hence, the reason he is P4P the greatest. There are a number of others also. Napoles was definitely one of them who is often not spoken of. Amazing welter who would have given anyone trouble. Hearns is, of course, another who would be a big problem for anyone in any era. Leonard is also up there. He was a big welter with great skills, good power and a load of fighting heart. Would give anyone a run as well. I think the welter and lightweight divisions are the greatest divisions with the most talent of any other. Lightweight I think even more so than welter. The amount of great fighters that has always been in the lightweight division is absurd. I guess because it is the most common size and has the perfect balance of speed, power, skill and stamina. I've always thought those two divisions have had the greatest fighters of all time in them. jvsnypes 02-28-2009, 11:49 AM The older generation looks at Ray Robinson the same way they look at Joe Louis.Unbeatable.But the same way I imagine some modern day heavyweights destroying Louis, I can imagine the modern day welterweights(some) beating Ray.I've watched the tapes of Robinson and he was a beast. But I've never seen him fight someone with his same talent level.I honestly don't see him beating Hearns in his prime.Hearns had a very good jab and maybe the best right hand ever at welterweight.I see Ray getting caught in round 7 or 8 by that big right hand.A fight with Robinson and Ray Leonard would be a CLASSIC!But again,Leonard is a man that would match him with speed and skill. It would be like looking in a mirror. But Leonard in his prime was a beast too.If these guys fought 10 times,Leonard wins 6 of them.I see Duran in his prime at welterweight giving Robinson HELL.He was very hard to hit and could hit hard.Maybe he doesn't get the win, but it would be highly competitive. elfag 02-28-2009, 12:30 PM Someone had mentioned a Robinson Vs. Poet I agree with this, Hearns would certainly be competitive with him. Some people underrate Hearns based on his KO losses. Hearns was winning the Leonard fight and Leonard had no choice but to dig down deep and war with him. It was also rumored Hearns over trained for that fight and went on a 5 mile run on fight day (maybe he was nervous or something?), no idea if its true or not. Great win by Leonard and he gets all the credit but its not like if they fought five times Leonard would be 5-0 in the series. Hearns would be very competitive, especially if he kept moving and boxing and not trying to trade. I think he certainly would outbox Ray Robinson from the outside with his reach, speed and jab and it would be up to Robinson to chase him down and get inside like Leonard did. I would pick Robinson to do so as well and stop him like as Leonard did, but its not like I would pick him to be 5-0 in a 5 fight series either. poet682006 02-28-2009, 02:25 PM The older generation looks at Ray Robinson the same way they look at Joe Louis.Unbeatable.But the same way I imagine some modern day heavyweights destroying Louis, I can imagine the modern day welterweights(some) beating Ray.I've watched the tapes of Robinson and he was a beast. Probably because you have little imaination and can't see past 1980 with your hindsight. Maybe you've never seen him fight someone with the same talent level because THERE NEVER HAS BEEN someone with the same talent level as Robinson. Hearns himself was certainly not unbeatable at Welterweight as his loss to Leonard proves. Leonard certainly didn't get wacked out in 7 or 8 by "that big right hand" and Robinson's chin at very least was equal to Leonard's.
